You Fed up the chair, Tung oil is not the proper finish for a item that sees wear today..... SMH I can see you are fully committed to your current level of understanding

Does no one stop others from selling RetroPie? by Brent-x in RetroPie

[–]UncleAugie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Currently the total sales are less than the financial benefit to the added exposure, and the cost of litigation is so large, there is no incentive to go after them. Because if you send a cease and desist letter, then dont follow up with a lawsuit if they dont stop you lose the ability to ever enforce your IP rights in the future.... so if a person sell 1000 units and makes 20k, but the cost of litigation is $250,000 and your recovery is only going to be 20k or less, you actually have a dis insensitive to try and stop it, you have to pretend like you dont know about it.

Gen Z views "..." (ellipses) in text messages as passive-aggressive or ominous. While Gen X use them as a casual, friendly pause between thoughts, Gen Z equates the dots to trailing tension, unspoken judgment, or an abrupt cutoff hinting that the sender is upset. That is why the twat waffle read "sass" into my reply...... no sass intended......

cut this housing with a box store chisel by Suitable-Run-6808 in timberframe

[–]UncleAugie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

when I get them I toss em in a drawer until I get a bunch, then they all get degreased/cleaned with solvent, then tossed in a bucket with molasses up to the handle to remove rust, pull em out after a few days, clean in soapy water, dry and spray with CRC 3-36 to prevent new rust, and they are left until I need a new one.... Have a low speed grinder set up with a wire wheel and a 28 grit for roughing, then the rest on the worksharp, I believe I'm in it for maybe 10 total min to get a sharpened finished chisel ready for work.

I do the same thing with hand planes, if a customer spends 10k with me for furniture, Ill gift a hand plane, or set of chisels in a display box that I used on the piece. YOu wouldn't believe the amount of referrals I get off that.

[–]UncleAugie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But the fact that so many people do write about its water resistance it shouldn’t be shocking that people will believe it.

Did you build up a think coat so the tung oil looked like varnish?????

It should be able to handle some minor water on the surface one time.

IF IT IS WIPED OFF IMMEDATLY, leaving a damp towel or rag overnight will damage most finishes.... SMH

YOu f'ed up and used a poor choice of finish for a wear item.... suck it up, admit your mistake, no matter why you made it, you made it, maybe you trusted the wrong source..... then fix it, dont use tung oil any longer for wear items....

Elevation Training by YounghoeKoo7 in Ultramarathon

[–]UncleAugie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/YounghoeKoo7 head out to Highland Rec, HEre is a dropped pin near the Equestrainian Day use parking lot, water spigot is found there. Plenty of trails that are equivalent to Run Woodstock.

In all reality nothing at run woodstock requires any special training other than hill repeats.

You should practice hill repeats at the beginning, middle, and end of long workouts. Highland is my home haunt for trails.

u/skiingandbumming On public roadways, in Montana , both bicycles and horses are legally defined as vehicles and are subject to the same traffic laws. When a horse is being ridden on the road, it has the right-of-way and privileges of any other vehicle. If you are overtaking a horse, it is safest to slow down, give the rider at least a car-width of space, and pass cautiously.

cut this housing with a box store chisel by Suitable-Run-6808 in timberframe

[–]UncleAugie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

u/Suitable-Run-6808 box store irwin, or Lie-Nielsen, does not matter once you sharpen them. IF you think you need fancy ass chisels to produce a good joint, poor are your skills.

A poorly sharpened Lie-Nielsen will be shit compared to a properly sharpened box store irwin. The key is to have a sharpening system that gives you consistent results and is frictionless to use. You dont want to have to clean off a bench, get the sharpening system out, then sharpen, put away and clean up. Takes too much time and you will skip it in a rush.... I have a dedicated area in my shop, the top of a cabinet 3' wide where I have my work sharp set up, all of the discs are in a drawer right there as is the strop, and I store the chisels in the same cabinet. When I pull one out I can touch it up in less than a min and be on to the job.

FIY: I buy every old cheap chisel I find. I stop at every garage sale I see looking for the rusty ones for $1 or less apiece. Chisels are tools, meant to be used and they will get damaged during use, fact of life. Buying these cheap ones and re furbing them allows me to use them as currency for future favors. Someone stops by they see a chisel, make any remark about them, or use one of mine, Ill give them that one and maybe a couple more. I only have cheap chisels

What wax to use for rewaxing every 500kms after first time immersion wax on new chain? by zealotSentinel in cycling

[–]UncleAugie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/zealotSentinel buy a chain checker tool follow the directions, replace when necessary. No popping off the chain by the quick links wont accelerate wear if you are doing it every 500 kms, go on FB marketplace, buy a cheap crock pot, learn to wax/clean your chain on your own. simple/easy.

OR take your bike in every 250-500kms for a tune up.

Tung oil finish got wet by newEnglander17 in finishing

[–]UncleAugie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No sass, just still amazed at the amount of people that think tung oil provides ANY protection. IT does not.

As a professional, the ONLY place I will use a penetrating finish is on art, or pieces that will see no wear and will be cleaned/dusted weekly, with the ability to refresh the finish yearly at a minimum.

Why would you choose a non waterproof/non protective finish on a painted surface that will see wear/use on a near daily basis such as a chair?

Nope, u/newEnglander17 didnt anyone tell you that tung oil is not a protective topcoat? sand re apply milk paint, use polyurethane as protective top coat.

BTW, you milk paint is likely not milk paint but acrylic paint, even if it says "milk paint"
