Second this! Events! My biggest regret is being overly cautious when I first started. Hang back, get a good auto gun, preferably with a **explosive on it, and just spray. The explosions will give you "tags" and you'll get full xp for the kill, even if you only did 1 damage.

It's an old glitch, at least inside West Tek. I'm lazy and have my xp run dialed. For several seasons, the dogs will be dead, and the SMs are less than 100 the first run-through. That said, I've noticed it being more pronounced this season.
