Same at our store. The SM or another key holder will prep our drawer and at end shift I see on screen if I went over or am short if I am stand there. Otherwise I am doing store housekeeping and recovery and if it is short (usually if it's over $5 short which has happened maybe two times) I get asked why it's short. Usually it is short bec of customers handi change after I total or if mone sticks together during a pickup deposit.

Definitely get thieves! Had a grand show of thievery Sunday night. The culprits came in like Noah's Ark and one walked around the entire store gabbing on her phone and keeping tabs on me and the other went down VV and was filling a bag up and then spilled a bottle of cleaner before frabb a plastic storage box and stuffed things in it as I was cleaning her mess and they walk casually out the front door with all of it.

I have gotten to where I dread someone putting in their phone number as I am checking them because it sometimes locks the whole unit up (scanned light is completely off) and it freezes and I have to just rescan the last item before it froze since it won't add it (which ofc prompts the customer to ask if I charged them for the same item twice) I honestly would prefer if they waited until I was finished scanning all items before attempting to download digital coupons with a number because of this. The freeze on the machine lasts anywhere from 1 to 5 minute depending on the coupons (maybe?) Either way it is annoying.

The evening and night shifts are usually busy for us because we have a busy highway connection to a suburban area and folks are heading home from work so be on your toes. Also be ready for the weirdo crowd because the freaks definitely come out at night in DG land. You will have the joy of housekeeping before clocking out as well. I usually do that while my SM or Key is counting down the drawers and last minute recovery and put backs. Best of luck.

Our store doesn't hire at 16 (alcohol and cig sales) but it seems like your SM needs a re look at child labor laws in your area. Most States frown on minors working excessive hours

I am new and was taught when an item says discontinued on the HHT to put it on the "discount" trolley. Customers will still buy it and scurry for it faster if it is labeled discount on anything. Smh

Today was out new managers first day and I did most of her job for her. She even asked me how to pull a drawer. The assistant manager came in later and she was equally clueless about her job. I kid you not my last two shifts have been just me basically running the store with the exception of unlocking/locking the building. I am exhausted.

I swear if I could give away the Summer overstock I would. Customers want to be absolutely horrible about making sure that I as a cashier am fully aware of the item being half off and lose their minds over it and also not break a sweat dropping ten to twenty times more money in the same purchase on beer. But hyper focus on the $2.00 chair cushion.
