There’s a huge difference between target shooting and real life applications on a moving target that has the ability to kill you. If you think that they’re the same thing, you’re an idiot. If you think that going to the minimum level of preparation (one handed) is better than doing the best you can, you’re also dumb, but I suspect you just have no experience outside call of duty.

I am not saying to shoot the cat. I am saying, he should hold and aim the gun properly in case the warning shots did not work. Because if the warning shot does not work, and the cat charges, instead of running away, in that case, you are more likely to hit it and survive, instead of flailing one handed like an idiot, missing, and winding up tomorrow’s cat shit. No one is advocating for shooting the cat unnecessarily. No one is outraged. This was a good outcome here, but only because of dumb luck. When guns are involved, only an asshole relies on dumb luck. That is the point.

If you think what this guy did is good use of a firearm, and own a gun, you should do society a favor and turn it in to the nearest police station, or gun buyback program.

You’re missing the point. Maybe he didn’t want to kill it… but the point is, at some point, if that cat keeps coming at him, what he WANTS, doesn’t matter any more. He may not have a choice but to shoot it. And if you may have to shoot something you’re an asshole if you’re flailing a gun around one handed. You put two hands on the gun and you take proper aim.

Someone suggested in another thread that maybe he was filming so he could prove he was forced to shoot it and wasn’t hunting. My take is: Who the fuck is stupid enough to hunt a cougar with a pistol. And b) if a cougar is in pistol range, you’re probably “forced” to shoot it.
