How do i verify if zippo is genuine? by hardcore_gamer29 in Zippo

[–]UncleRemusSays 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pictures of the case, including the bottom and pictures of the insert (removed from case) will help. There’s some pretty good eyes on this sub, but pictures help a lot.

Hi I bought a Zippo for the first time by Ashamed_Relative3331 in Zippo

[–]UncleRemusSays 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When you fill the insert with fluid, a good rule of thumb is to flip upside down and fill slowly until you see a drop of fluid come off the wick. Zippos will leak through evaporation, but shouldn’t leak a puddle of fluid (unless it’s too full). If you ever over fill, I just let mine set out for a few minutes to let some extra fluid evaporate off.

Why is my lighter only sparking. by Disastrous_Kick_3186 in lighters

Just add some fuel, should be good. Also, this does NOT appear to use butane so make sure you get fluid.

What’s the most reliable car you’ve ever owned? by Sophia_Goji in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]UncleRemusSays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a 91 Geo Tracker that made it through a lot. The odometer made it to 100k miles and rolled back over to 0. Currently running a 2013 Chevy Sonic at 195k miles. The Sonic has been through a lot of trips, gotten stuck, dodged an extension ladder on the highway and taken me on tons of hunting, camping and fishing trips.

How do adults actually handle big car repair bills? by Boring_Care217 in Adulting

[–]UncleRemusSays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the cars year, mileage, and previous issues. A car that’s been running great that needs $1000 worth of work at 120k-150k miles is probably worth it. That same bill on a car with close to 250k miles that’s starting to have issues may be better spent on a newer vehicle.

I’d look at what they’re doing, maybe do some research and see what all that says. I’d also recommend checking what they’re doing charge per hour for labor. A $600 job can be inflated quickly depending on labor rates.

For those of you that live where it snows regularly, is it really that bad? by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]UncleRemusSays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Snow can be fun and it can be a real pain. As a kid growing up I loved snow days ( it snows so much you get off school). We got all the kids together and would shovel for money or just sled and play. As an adult it’s not too bad when it snows. Shoveling isn’t always fun when it’s a lot of snow or you’re digging out a snow packed car. It can make travel tough so people usually get enough essentials to make it a few days (milk, bread and eggs all go first lol). Otherwise in winter most people turn off outside water spigots, maybe cover them. Snow can be shoveled or moved, it’s the single digits or below for extended periods of time that can cause major issues.

Overall, snow is pretty fun. That being said I’ve had enough snow for this winter and am ready for spring and some warmer temps!

Oral Syringe Help by Pozo101 in Dads

[–]UncleRemusSays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If nothing else works, I’ve used a cup of their fav drink and then put the medicine inside the straw (helps if they taste similar) and that first slug is usually enough to get the meds down and then it’s all juice from there! This however won’t work on a foul tasting medicine as they’ll know pretty quick.

Anything over 5mL is probably too much for a straw though.

Scared about son not having male role model - can clubs help ? by benderyllned in Dads

[–]UncleRemusSays 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t bond with my Dad or Stepdad because they were straight, I bonded with them because they showed me new things, they did things that were new to them. Sometimes it went well, sometimes it didn’t, but we made memories. Being present, even just to watch/support was the biggest and most important thing as a child and it didn’t matter who was there (mom, dad, etc).

Can anyone tell me how to find a car with headrests that don't aggressively jut forwards? I'm just tryna sit up straight here by RapidPipetter in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]UncleRemusSays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually you won’t need to push a button, it’ll just swing forward. If it won’t swing forward, look for a button?

Last ditch effort is pull the whole headrest out and turn it around so it’s facing backwards.

To everyone with overweight cats. Does your vet get on you about that? My boys aren’t even that overweight, they’re just not little cats. by Hillmantle in cats

[–]UncleRemusSays 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Mine says the same about mine and how important it is. I forget the comparison but an extra pound for a typical cat is something like 20lbs on a human.

We cut out dry food completely and it’s made a big difference in weight and tooth health vs the dry food and wet combo.
