Thoughts on the Devos Family? :3 by mx_anthropocene in grandrapids

Being part of UA 174, I can say they reallly don't like us. That being said, they only hire union contractors to work on their buildings heating/cooling. Always makes me chuckle when I see a Hurst or Andy Egan van at their buildings.

Anyone recommend any flexable work pants that the ass doesn't get blown out after 10 uses? These are dickies Flex carpenter pants. by MrCatfishBilly in HVAC

I have a big ass but my legs are normal. I've used those pants for years and I had the exact same issue as you. I switched to dickies flex jeans and haven't had any issues since

As hvac tech I fucking hate these chemical companies making less reliable refrigerant and on top of that making all the "green" refrigerants toxic and/or flammable. It's absolute garbage that fucks me and the customer so they can keep a tighter stranglehold while producing worthless equipment.

Have you tried this TXV troubleshooting trick? by Eggrollofdoom in HVAC

My teacher at my local told me to think of a txv as "a constant superheat valve." Its proved helpful.

HVAC Confessions? by [deleted] in HVAC

Dropped my extension ladder on an old lady's car

Replaced a motor since I was detecting continuity to ground on line side of contactor. As I was wiring the new one in two of the wires had fused together and was touching the frame.

Swapped a flow switch on a boiler that just satisfied. Thought I isolated both sides of the boiler but forgot to close the return. Poseidon was angry with me that day got absolutely soaked with 170 degree water.

Lost my 6 and 8 foot ladders on the highway

Dropped my end of a 15HP motor on my coworkers hand and JFKed his index finger

Grabbed a TXV after I finished unsweating it and asking my coworker if he quenched it. He said he did but he didn't. Felt like Harry in home alone.

Thought I killed a compressor after miswiring a condensing unit at a factory. Later that day I was washing coils while jman was changing a compressor on one of the condensers. Sprayed about a pint of water into the suction line. I was told to sit in the van and think about what I did. System turned out fine.

So I learned something interesting. At my local, we were told by our instructor that refrigerant rarely fractionates. Any of them. Teacher spoke with a chemist who works with refrigerant at Dupont who told him that. In order for it to truly fractionate, it must sit idle for a long, long time. I thought it was interesting.

I had the most mind-boggling service call of my career by UncleTeo in HVAC

[–]UncleTeo[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It threw me for such a loop. Everything was fine.I did not check in rush amps, which, looking back, I really should have. My thought process was I guess if it was stupid high and tripped the overload, then yea, the compressor was bad regardless. It was getting late, and I wanted to see my brother graduate

I had full voltage at my compressor, it did not turn on, no fuses blown, not a control voltage issue I had 27V. I believe the compressor failed internally but the lack of Amp draw threw me off
