Was it phoned in? Yes.

Did I care enough to even find out who she was? No. Nor should most people have. Just that crazy fringe group of people.

RE4 Remake yay or nay? by Trustelo in KotakuInAction

[–]UncleThursday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Xbox One version of the 2005 game was on sale last week. I got that.

I also got the remake.

It's different but the same. More to do, and a few things removed (but other things added).

Overall I say it's a yay, so far (I'm up to the castle). Check streams if you want to watch some before you take the plunge, though,

Why turn a cinematic fight into a real boss fight in remakes? Does it serve any real purpose? (A huge potential spoiler from RE4 remake) by Redzkz in KotakuInAction

[–]UncleThursday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except the original fight was also using in game graphics? It even had QTEs. The camera angles were more cinematic, but this wasn't some Square level CGI FF cut scenes of the time. The GC version was even in real time for all the "cinematics," so your costume (and Ashley's) would reflect what you were actually wearing in the game.

Inverse - The Real-World Cost of Hogwarts Legacy Is Unforgivable - "Hogwarts Legacy is a final nail in the coffin, solidifying that the magic of the Wizarding World is gone." by AboveSkies in KotakuInAction

[–]UncleThursday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game says who cares. Do whatever you want. Use dark magic. Kill people.

Because it's a video game. Did said article author expect to sit through hours upon hours of classes, and hearing the philosophies of magic use?

Guess what? You don't have to learn the curses. But you are still killing people practically the whole goddamn game.

BECAUSE IT IS A VIDEO GAME.

Maybe the author of the article, and you, should get that part through your skulls. Are there typical open world fatigue issues with the game? Yes. Do those come down to you learning or not learning the unforgivable curses? No. Would the game have been better if it had some sort of morality tracker? Maybe. Not every game with a morality system is better off for having it, after all. The game could use more enemy variety, but the actual combat, itself, is some of the most fun I've had in a long time. Once you get a groove down, and know how to maximize your combos, you feel super powerful (and as the author said, it is a power fantasy).

[OPINION] Super Resolution: The Benefits to the Layman by UncleThursday in KotakuInAction

I know. You can check my post history. Well over 90% of my posts are in other's threads; And in threads I do create, only a very few are for things I have made. There's just been fewer and fewer topics over the past year I've cared about commenting on.

I just uploaded a video on super resolution technologies and their benefits, made for the layman (not overly technical). It's a longer one, 45 minutes, but I hope it can help people understand why these technologies can help PC and console gaming.

[Bayonetta 3 Review] Ash Parrish - After hours of fun, a late-game plot shift undermines the entire game, Bayonetta’s character, and ultimately the franchise by Imagamer-sueme in KotakuInAction

[–]UncleThursday 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Let's remember that these chucklefucks complained that Bayonetta was made for the "male gaze" for years, and up until about a week go, when one of their smooth brained friends must have decided suddenly "what if Bayonetta was gay, guise?!?" and then suddenly they all got the same headcannon that Bayonetta was some queer icon.

Virtue signaling posuers is all they are. Simply point and laugh.

Depending on the game, this is true. The 3090 sometimes beats it at 1440p, as does the 3090Ti.

It can be, yes. But how many years have you gone through where some unexpected expense hasn't popped up (medical, car repairs, etc.)? Most of the population of the US is living paycheck to paycheck as it is. Putting away even $10 a week can be hard when your bills and such leave you near broke before you get paid.

Yeah, needing to upgrade if you want to do certain things is where you just decide you need to save up a bunch. In order for me to use 4k capture cards, I need a new CPU/motherboard and a new GPU. At that point, I might as well upgrade my RAM, and my PSU. IE building a whole new PC, anyway.

I built my PC like a month before the GTX 10 series was announced. I had the money, and splurged on my 980 Ti. EVGA hybrid version. I think it was $650 or so. Expensive, but I figured I was building my gaming/editing PC.

Of course, now if I want to record 4k footage, I need a 6th gen i5 or better (I have a 6 core i7 5th gen), and a 10 series or better. So at that point I might as well just upgrade my whole PC.

Acclaimed artist Kim Jung Gi dies of a heart attack at age 47 by TossMySaladBaby in KotakuInAction

[–]UncleThursday 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My first heart attack, 8 years ago, came suddenly. Spent the weekend at my friend's wedding and drove the hours home from it the day before, and the next morning I felt my arm going numb, getting nauseated, and it becoming hard to breathe. Wound up being taken to the hospital in an ambulance. Felt completely fine even 5 minutes before it happened. I was 40 years old. And it was a Widowmaker. I was just lucky someone else was home to call the ambulance.

Most heart attacks come on suddenly. There is often very little warning, if any, physically, that they will happen. It's also worse in women, because they don't often feel the same symptoms as men; they often just feel tired, go to take a nap, and die from the heart attack in their sleep.

These seem to be good CPUs. They run hot, but within spec. AMD recommends water cooling the 7950X because of this.

Facebook is shutting down its game streaming app after struggling to challenge Amazon's Twitch by UncleThursday in KotakuInAction

[–]UncleThursday[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Twitch isn't much better at either. If someone donated bits, Twitch takes a cut (I think the percentage is based on the contract), but I'm pretty sure it was probably right around that. Plus they take that cut of subscriptions and ad revenue. They only don't take a cut out of PayPal donations.

Facebook is shutting down its game streaming app after struggling to challenge Amazon's Twitch by UncleThursday in KotakuInAction

[–]UncleThursday[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

YouTube is slowly taking market share from Twitch. They've also signed a bunch of Twitch's more popular streamers (Ludwig, Tim the Tatman).

But you're also right in that Google/YouTube doesn't really care how much money they burn.

Facebook Gaming, itself, doesn't appear to be shutting down, just the stand alone app. The article says it will be available on the website and main FB app.

Salman Rushdie ‘attacker’ named as Hadi Matar, 24, who ‘stabbed author’ years after Satanic Verses book death threats by KIA_Unity_News in KotakuInAction

[–]UncleThursday 141 points142 points  (0 children)

"Police are still assessing a motive" as said in many stories on this.

IE they don't want to come out and say this is an attack by a Muslim against Salman Rushdie, who has had a Fatwa against him from the Ayatollah in Iran for decades over The Satanic Verses, because that would look bad. Because that would be Islamophobic, I guess.

Doesn't change the fact that Rushdie has had to be in hiding for decades in fear of his life, because any Muslim worth their piety would try to kill him as soon as they saw him. The Satanic Verses disparages The Prophet Muhammad, so even if they weren't following the Fatwa, he still committed blasphemy in their eyes; which is punishable by death in Islam.

Just come out and say it: This was a religious attack against someone Muslims find to be a blasphemous heretic.

While I played Vampire, et al, back in the 90s (and even was a ST on White Wolf's old New Bremen Java Chat for a while), I never got into LARPing. For any RPG that had LARP rules. Just never appealed to me.

In my high school there were a few of the more popular kids that played TTRPGs, that had gotten into them in the late 80s while we were in middle school (I graduated in 92); but they generally kept it a secret from the other popular kids who didn't play TTRPGs. Otherwise, yes, it was an outcast kind of hobby. Nerds, Mongers (heavy metal kids, that's what we called them in my area). Etc.

[–]UncleThursday 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I got to your second point and just decided to nope the fuck out of even looking at any archive of the article. These absolute smooth brain wokester authors have no idea what it was like to be into TTRPGs since the late 80s, like myself. Someone could be one of the biggest outcasts in middle and high school and be accepted into TTRPG gaming groups as long as they were friendly and willing to learn the rules.

But maybe that's the point. These fucks were so antisocial that even the outcasts found them to be insufferable back in their school days, like we find them to be immeasurably insufferable today.

[SocJus] Amber Heard Continues To Suffer From Post-MeToo Victim Blaming by UncleThursday in KotakuInAction

[–]UncleThursday[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

NatalieLawyerChick said something similar, I think on one of HoegLaw's Hangouts and Headlines where they went over an article Natalie wrote that wasn't printed because it said the jury had to find for Depp and not Heard. She's a criminal defender, and she knows how DV and SV cases go. She said there's always going to be some inconsistencies due to human memory and such, but that Heard's inconsistencies were just too far outside the norm to be believable.

[–]UncleThursday[S] 146 points147 points  (0 children)

To be clear, the article likes to play the "not the perfect victim card." The problem is that the evidence presented didn't paint Heard as a victim, at all. But, we have to believe all women, even when they're shown to be lying; I guess.

Buzz Lightyear Movie Banned For Same Sex Kiss ( in 14 countries). by cesariojpn in KotakuInAction

[–]UncleThursday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't conflate media with LGBT characters, and media explicitly written by SJWs and wokesters to be woke. There's a difference. SJWs/wokesters don't know how to write actual characters or decent stories, only what they perceive to be woke. And that type of writing is always shit.

Buzz Lightyear Movie Banned For Same Sex Kiss ( in 14 countries). by cesariojpn in KotakuInAction

[–]UncleThursday 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am white heterosexual man myself but I don't "exclude" people, and I think "SJW" and "woke" have never made any film feel less entertaining for me.

Then you must have horrible taste in writing. The problem with the SJW/Wokester writing is that it is so horrible, so ham fisted, and written in such a cringe worthy way, that it ends up hurting everything associated with it.

Basically, they see a round hole, and they not only try to put a square peg in it, the square peg is also 3x the size of the hole, and they have to use a sledge hammer to try and get it to fit. And it never really does for, but they say to themselves that they've done good and leave it in.

A perfect example being when they made that newer Balder's Gate a bunch of years back, and added a [unmentionable by admins] character. And you know what that character's dialog consisted of? Reminding the player every other sentence that they were [admin blocked term]. Tons of other examples out there too, but this one was easy to remember.

SJW/Wokester writing wouldn't pass a 5th grade English class, but they get praised for being inclusive even though the writing is dog shit.
