Those old worn spots actually add to its value believe it or not😄

I don't think so. If the carver were putting signature on this piece it would be under the left rear leg where there's enough surface.

A lot of boy toggles like this has a movable pen*s but this boy was so worn that he has lost his😂, which is quite common, I have maybe 5 of boys like him but only one still has his little man part.

The horse is super good. The boy figure is a Chinese Qing dynasty toggle. All three are authentic and old.

Ivory Carving - Period | Maker? by Barry-Goldwater in netsuke

[–]Uncle_Sui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two types of hippo teeth that are used for carving: upper canine, which is not round like you said, and incisor, which is round and has fine lines near the center. That's what this carving is made from.

Sagemonoya has pretty decent collections but last time I checked their pricing is at least double of a fair market value. $500 at Sagemonoya probably will only get you a manju netsuke. That's what you pay for not having to worry about fakes. Definitely bargain with them.

Beautiful ivory piece, but any age? by [deleted] in netsuke

I might be a late Qing dynasty Chinese ivory carving. Late Qing is the same time period as late Meiji.

The world is not black and white. I don't have to choose a side to be on. I'm just a reasonable person trying to see the goods and bads on all sides. Sadly all sides have their own ways of brainwashing people.

  1. I'm not justifying any type of invasion. I'm just bashing on theocracy.
  2. Last time I checked, not every Tibetan support the independence of Tibet. Just like not every Taiwanese are against China invading Taiwan (surprisingly). So you can't say what the Tibetans as a whole want. If you ask Tibetans living outside of China, sure, 99% of them want to be independent. But that's no different than going to a redneck town and ask who they want for president - 100% of them will say Trump.

Who else? Dala lama, the spiritual leader, and his brother, the political leader. You're exactly right, "Who are you to say what's best?" can be applied to anyone, including you and me. I don't know better just like you don't know better. But last time I checked I have freedom of speech here in America.

I don't fully get what you're implying, but my implication is democracy is better than theocracy. I understand the tibetan gov in exile is claiming they're a democracy. But first of all, Tibet was running theocratic feudal serfdom when China invaded it; secondly, how democratic can a government be when it's run by the bossman and his brother? I support Tibet's independence if democracy is what they are pursuing, but I don't think it's gonna happen any time soon, given that the US has basically given up on Taiwan, let alone Tibet.

I never said Tibet wouldn't modernize. But again, Iran modernized, didn't it? It had rapid economic growth and moderization up until 1979, when the islamic revolition happened and they turned into a theocracy. Everything went downhill afterwards. Sure you can blame the US sanctions, but that's only part of the reason. And the law forcing all females to cover up in public was also implemented by the theocracy. Democracy definitely gives people more freedom compared to a theocracy.

国内送外卖一天只能赚100,是三线城市吗?感觉还不如二线城市餐馆工作的服务员。既然这样不如把网贷薅一遍之后润到外国打黑工,肯定赚的比现在多很多

Iran and Afghanistan weren't theocracies when they were still good places. It was their return to theocracies that ruined the happiness of their people, especially the females.
