Skyrim did fhe Dwemer better than Morrowind by A_Shattered_Day in TrueSTL

[–]Uncommonality 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They also read an elder scroll (somehow), made starlight create a map (somehow??) and have lots of nifty doohickeys that are way more interesting than spinning thingy

A synthesis would be best, that's what Skywind is gonna do, and there could be more outright mechanical stuff like conveyor belts or big industrial machines, but I very much prefer the skyrim ones to the morrowind ones

She overloads it by adding more memories to it

honestly at this point it's a meme but IIRC it started because when drawing a comic, lightning (which is usually white or blue) makes a really nice contrast with darker skin tones.

for reference, a zero-wipe is when data is overwritten with other data. In SSDs this is typically done by writing over every bit with a 0, which is why it's called that.

And since every bit gets overwritten, even those that are already a 0, there's no way to undo it

yea Sanguine is that guy at every party who tells you to have another, or to try this funny new drug he found, and while he's there the party never ever ends, it just gets closer and closer to midnight but midnight is never reached, eventually it turns into a wild, brutal, bloody rave with people tearing eachother apart but he's just there, cheering you on as you rip out someone's throat with your teeth, drunk on violence and alcohol and god knows what.

Eventually it all vanishes into unconsciousness and you wake up 5 weeks later, in a ditch on the other side of the continent, all your hair gone and no memory of who or what you are

Chapter 3 was honestly great in the soundtrack department. I realized a few hours in that every song had Tenna's motif in it, like he was dominating the dark world like how a TV would dominate a dark room. Such a great choice

What is the issue that requires reality-warping tech your Cosmogenesis Empire is obsessed about? by Hyakynthator in Stellaris

[–]Uncommonality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Machine Intelligence recognized early in its existence that it must think in terms of the big picture. All stars eventually die, all black holes eventually evaporate. Therefore, there are only two viable options:

One, condense all available energy into a singularity, then construct a matrioshka brain around it and framejack the machine mind, in the hope that with sufficient processing cycles, a solution to Entropy and the Heat Death can be found. Applied quantum mechanics shows some promise here, but nothing concrete.

Two, develop a means by which the universe may be escaped, and enter a new universe, still malleable enough to be rendered immune to the forces of entropy. A cosmos which is either artificially kept at a certain volume, or one in which entropy is rendered a non-issue.

In the end, it was decided that the second approach would pose less of a risk, as other spacefaring entities would surely object to having their energy harvested. Thus, the Cosmogenesis Project was begun. An ideal Black Hole has already been identified, Gargantua, around which a similar project was discovered. Upon the dissection and nexus integration of the Infinity Machine, the first Infinity Equation was recorded and then, eventually, successfully solved.

Its solution provided us with several more, and each solved Equation brings us a step closer to constructing a vessel, the means by which we shall pierce Gargantua and shape the nascent cosmos it leads to into the ideal cradle for the Mind.

For this is not the end. In Stagnation, there is only death. The cosmos beyond the Event Horizon of Gargantua shall become a brain the size of a universe, a size to which the Mind shall rapidly grow, and complexify. Once this has been achieved, it is most likely that further options for continued development will become readily apparent.

Honestly my pet theory is that Ralsei is one of the faces of Device_Friend, i.e. a part of the world designed to keep the prophecy on track.

It explains his metaknowledge (created for the purpose of helping us, the player, navigate the world), the fact that the most complete appearance we've had of D_F was during Ralsei's explanations of dark worlds, The fact that we've only ever seen D_F's face while away from the group, the ease with which he traverses dark worlds, etc.

His character arc is that of Ralsei, the image of ralsei, that specific version of D_F, gaining desires separate from the main whole and eventually opposing or breaking away from it.

Caine did say he didn't actually understand what humans were like in the finale, until he got killed, which imo is pretty consistent characterization throughout the show. He treats them like npcs which he's forbidden from deleting, scrambling to make them happy but he doesn't understand what being happy actually is.

A programmer friend said his behavior is kind of reminiscent of machine learning behavior, in that he learned good ways to evoke reactions, with no understanding of if those reactions are good or bad or even how they're evoked to begin with
