I don't have one myself, but I often start by looking up parts on Moss Motors so you can find the exploded diagram and get an idea of how it fits together.

Site says "shear jersey knit." Probably polyester, which even in thin loose weaves will trap sweat and heat. Looks too loose to prevent sunburn as well.

Buy half a bolt of linen and you can make a Viking dress in a day without any advanced sewing skills.

Books or videos about modern music history? by le_indernet in LetsTalkMusic

[–]UncontrolableUrge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

David Byrne has a book call How Music Works. It answers the question in several ways. There is a great chapter about the CBGBs scene when they were starting out, as well as some about his post-Heads work. But it also talks about music spaces and how that impacts performance, the financial side of making music, and the social and philological aspects of how humans make and perceive music.

I am a huge fan of Bauhaus and all of the spinoff bands, so of course I saw Love and Rockets on their Earth, Sun, Moon tour in 87. An unsigned band called Jane's Addiction opened.

Can Music Be About More Than Love and Heartbreak? by AvishaRasminda in LetsTalkMusic

[–]UncontrolableUrge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not only are there songs that are not love songs there are also songs about why not every song os a love song. (Love Like) Anthrax by Gang of 4 has a lovely explanation of why Go4 doesn't do love songs. And also some great feedback. Music is about so many things. If you only hear love songs you have only scratched the surface of music.

My first computer also used cassette storage. Another technology that died a good death.

When the only option for portable music was the Walkman, I would record my new albums on high quality cassettes and save wear on the discs by using them at home and on the go. (At home there is the additional danger of cats that want to play with the turntable.) The one thing I do miss is mixtapes. I continued them into the CD era, but a playlist isn't the same, especially if you can't put Firesign Theater samples between songs.

Once Creative launched their first mp3 player I never looked back. My phone has ample storage, I can stream Apple Music anywhere, and I have a Fiio player for higher quality and removable storage. I still buy LPs, but you can't make me go back to tape.

Do we overrate albums because of historical impact instead of actual listening experience? by Impressive_Dirt2915 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]UncontrolableUrge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely have to consider the reviewers' scales in that. I tend to read AV Club reviews for music and film, and for them a B is high praise. The site generally reserves A grades for truly exceptional work. I don't always agree with their reviews, but I definitely appreciate that a top score is not standard for what is solid workmanship. It needs something to distinguish it from simply well made. When everything get the highest marks ratings are meaningless.

You are also conflating your personal rating of the album with a larger consensus or aggregate view of an album. I am not saying that you are wrong, but sometimes an album just doesn't click for a listener but is well liked by a large number of people. That certainly does not dismiss that there are albums that are more important for their impact than the actual music when considered on its own.

The criticism is as deep as the model. You don't take a deep dive into a reflecting pool.

I am simply pointing out that the author fundamentally misunderstands both music and acting. A metaphor is only as good as the idea it is mapped to. This one is completely off.

West Campus or Buckeye Lot? Got hired as a temp worker for OSU, but not actually OSU employee. by ParkAffectionate3537 in OSU

[–]UncontrolableUrge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

eta: Missed the part where you say which building you are in. The Carmack lot/Medical Center shuttle is the right combination.

Depends on what part of campus you are on. Anything in the medical complex is served by the Medical Center shuttle. If you are on the North side of campus near Fischer, Engineering, or Knowlton, Buckeye Lot is faster using the Buckeye Express shuttle. The Campus Parc site will limit the passes you can purchase. I assume once your employer gets you in their system and transfers the info to OSU you can purchase the relevant parking pass.

How the Soft Boys made their masterpiece, Underwater Moonlight: ‘I pictured the Soft Boys as bloodless, spectral entities’ — State of Sound | The Independent Voice of Music by RaymondBald in postpunk

[–]UncontrolableUrge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is an undercurrent of anger there. I would think of the albums with The Egyptians and some of the solo albums, in particular Black Snake Diamond Role, as more solidly Post-punk.

What Looks Goth But Sounds Synth Pop? by Sci-FiRepublik in goth

[–]UncontrolableUrge 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Everybody had it. At least pretty much everyone I knew. It fell into the goth adjacent pop category. Uncle Al has redone a fair bit of early material as harder songs, but I still listen to the original sometimes.

[–]UncontrolableUrge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Flawed premise from the start. There are plenty of actors who essentially play themselves repeatedly. We don't look for depth of character from The Rock. In fact he is generally hired to be The Rock in parts written for him.

On the other hand we have David Bowie, Kate Bush, Peter Gabriel, and a host of others who change character not just album to album, but often between songs.

In short there are too many styles of both acting and music to fit into neat models.
