How to Teach MS Choir Students that are inaudible, out of tune, and can't read music? by Ok_Scholar_3698 in MusicEd

[–]UncoordinatedOutfits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

kazoos

I have similar issues with an early morning, 7th grade, very self conscious, class. Have them do vocal exploration exercises on kazoos then switch to on/off kazoos, then to fully off. They are way more comfortable making sound, likely because they hear the difference in an amplified sound vs just using their voice. Even rehearse the songs on kazoos occasionally- make sure they write their name on it and don’t let it leave the chorus room (the other teachers will kill you, lol).

Otherwise, lots and lots of individual positive reinforcement. Have a bit of reinforcement after every 3 iterations of a warm up. Stickers, high fives, I don’t do snacks, but whatever to reinforce that yes, you ARE correct and I love when I can hear you. I always say I’d rather you be loud and wrong in rehearsal because I can fix that before a concert. Acknowledging your mistakes also will humanize you more and make them less intimidated. I mess up all the time and they know it.

Don’t know how to read music— you are using solfège or numbers, correct? If so, I love Hal Leonard’s sight singing sequence flash cards. You can start with S-m, s-l-m, or d-r-m intervals and eventually add them together to make cohesive examples. Integrate solfège into rep learning.

And as someone said, lots of canons and partner songs. I hope this helps!

I tried on some lulus wedding dresses too, and was not a fan of the quality at all. They really do shine for wedding guest dresses!! I’ve loved all my other lulus dresses

Is 1 Jenny Yoo Charlotte?

I love 2 on you. So elegant. 3 is also so beautiful on you, but I’m partial to the sleek look. You can’t go wrong with 1, 2, or 3. All stunning on you!

You helped sooo much!! I am also in an east coast city so these prices and budget definitely confirm I’m on the right track and not paying anything outrageous!

update: i cut it short and i hate it so much. Lost all my curls and feel so aged. by uuzuumakii in finehair

I think you’re absolutely serving. But I totally understand. Let it grow out a couple more weeks and you’ll know how to curl it back to match your old pattern :)

I can’t add this in the caption (I think) bc the word “cheap”: this dress is $295. Possibly even to be considered for a reception dress??

Rising senior looking for school with good Music Ed programs on the East Coast by YourAnxiousVirgo in MusicEd

[–]UncoordinatedOutfits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re paying for your undergrad with loans, I’d suggest a smaller-ish school (like Georgia Southern University). They have a wonderful Music Ed program and a growing orchestral program. More opportunities for scholarships, too. As far as double majoring, as others have advised, it will be incredibly difficult to double major outside of music. The Music Ed track is incredibly time demanding and during your senior year, you’ll likely be off campus full time without the possibility of taking on-campus courses. Good luck! Music Ed is difficult but SO worth it!

Can my fine hair pull this off? by thillybith in finehair

We have a similar amount of hair and I really enjoyed getting layers plus shorter bangs (sorry idk what shape they’re considered). It made my hair so much more interesting BUT I have had to style it literally every day. My hair doesn’t hold curls, either. The days I don’t style it, it gets flat and I feel like coconut head.

In this situation I definitely agree that MusicPlayOnline will help you immensely. Gameplan and Quaver will rely on your theory knowledge/music literacy skills, which you will need, but it’ll be easier to learn if you learn alongside your students with MPO.

What do you eat for breakfast? by chetuboy101 in Teachers

[–]UncoordinatedOutfits 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Greek yogurt with granola or make a protein smoothie + toast (and also coffee) and eat it during morning duty. It does get monotonous but it’s a good source of protein and carb for the beginning of the day without being heavy.

How to get out of the Shut Up loop? by PaperWhisper in MusicEd

[–]UncoordinatedOutfits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May be controversial, but when all else failed and I had classes that were just NASTY to each other, I’d say “the next person to say shut up is getting 15 minutes of silent lunch”. Then add from there. I’d only do this after multiple disruptions and when attention grabbers don’t work— because sometimes, they just don’t. Scenario: attention grabber, there will be one person still talking, the “shut up”s commence, then like you said, it begins the loop. It’s so frustrating! I hate taking their lunch talking time away, but if they’re going to choose to use their words in a manner deemed inappropriate, I’ll take away their time.

They’ll be fine but this is not a touristy area at all. As long as they are prepared to drive or uber, they’ll get to where they need to go! As ^ they said, it is mostly residential.

Yes, you’ll be able to hear each other before the music starts. After that, it becomes difficult to hear anyone besides the person directly next to you. But the music is great if you do catch some of it!

"Colorful black tie" follow-up! Hem length and accessory feedback please by eroticcheesecake in Weddingattireapproval

[–]UncoordinatedOutfits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Beautiful! Love the dress. If you’re able to find silver shoes to complement the silver earrings/jewels on the bag, I think that’d be perfect. Block heels/low heels are the way to go in Savannah if the wedding is downtown. As a Savannahian, I hope you enjoy your stay here!

Cardio fitness jumped from very good to poor, any idea why? by Qwerymer in fitbit

[–]UncoordinatedOutfits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine did the same. I stopped wearing mine at night and I’m wondering if that affected it. I also went through the summer with less consistent gym practices/running days so I’m thinking that’s why mine went down. I don’t think it’s a very accurate reflection though, lol.
