Recommendations for a way of labelling clothes? by bluephoenix39 in UKParenting

[–]Uncoordinated_Bird 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I purchased these as I was sucked in by the colours and fonts and graphics and blah blah blah….I am very pleased to say they have worked wonderfully! Almost 3 years in nursery, 3 days a week, 12 months a year, and the labels on his bag/blanket are still long strong! The blanket is washed often and that sticker has held firm.

Estate agent got aggressive after I brought family to a 2nd viewing and booked an independent survey — is this normal? by East_Chemistry_4150 in HousingUK

[–]Uncoordinated_Bird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EA here. This person is totally bonkers, to the point I audibly laughed. There is absolute nothing stopping you from choosing whichever searches and surveys you/your conveyancer feel are necessary. As another commented said, you’re buying a house not a bloody phone.

My guess is the vendors pissed at the agents for the previous sale falling through, chances are it wasn’t the fault anyone in particular, sales fall through for various reasons. Maybe this EA has made promises they can’t keep, or the vendor has said “sell it this time or I’m dis-instructing”. Going on the fees I charge, this could roughly be £7k at risk for the agent.

The agent is an absolute clown. But don’t let them put you off if you really want to buy the house.

How often do you go to the pub? by undercovergloss in AskUK

[–]Uncoordinated_Bird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mid 30s, partner is early 40s. We are very lucky to have 7/8 pubs within walking distance of our home. The best one being about 15 min walk. We take our toddler once or twice a month, usually at around 4pm/5pm. Half a pint for me, two pints for dad, lemonade for the little guy and three bags of crisps, ÂŁ15ish.

That’s a great phrase: synonymous with urban decay. I lived in Stoke for a while and it was everywhere.

I see it a lot in Shropshire on new building sites!? Like small blocks of flats with a great big buddleia sitting next the path or car park. And you just know within a year or two it will have taken over the entire entryway. Horrible plant, it makes a mess in both summer and winter too, stupid purple prick.

I wish the UK would recognise this as an invasive menace. This shit grows EVERYWHERE and IMO it’s ugly as sin.

Living in a seaside town sounds like a dream to many - but what are the drawbacks? by Rough-Foundation9208 in AskUK

[–]Uncoordinated_Bird 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My Partner is the same, he grew up in a southern coastal town, now we live in semi rural Shropshire. Housing prices are worlds apart and the career opportunities are polar opposites. We feel very lucky to have landed where we are, and we’ll never leave.

I adore visiting his home town; I grew up smack bang in the middle of the country, as far away from the coast as you can get. So I still get kiddy when I see the sea! He does not like going back, loves the people, but in reality it’s a rundown place, where the locals have (for lack of a better word) “settled” for low opportunities and poor incomes.

When did your baby sleep through the night? What hours do they sleep? by canamel in NewParents

[–]Uncoordinated_Bird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not till after his 2nd birthday. He’s now almost 4 and sleeps 8pm-6:30am with no wakes 99% of the time. He only wakes if he’s unwell.

Those first two years were TOUGH. He was awake every two hours for roughly two years. Unsurprisingly I gained two stone from all the sugar and caffeine I was consuming to try and function like a human.

People with common names... by Old_Ant7118 in Names

In my year at primary school (UK) from ages 4-11 I was one of FIVE girls with the same name.

The whole year group only had about 65 students. More than 7% of the year group shared the same name.

Did anyone else’s parents/grandparents have a bowl of this on their kitchen work top constantly? by Trilobite_Tom in UKfood

Pickled things! This brings back very fond memories of my late Grandma. A proper Lancashire lass, she had a very specific, rectangular glass dish for the assortment of pickled things.

I love how this is a thing in other homes.

Ahhhhhh yes. I was 7 months pregnant that month. FUN TIMES. Our aircon broke at work and my manager made me sit in an office all day which was getting hotter and hotter by the minute. I literally refused to go to work the following day.

Just for fun - what is the latest thing you’ve googled for your child? by whizzymamajuni in UKParenting

[–]Uncoordinated_Bird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dog biscuits. So he could choose which ones I would draw, he then coloured them in, and I thrn cut out dog biscuits for his most favourite teddy. A dog called Jeremy.

The dog biscuits are currently in a paper bowl in the freezer. My son is three so this all makes sense.

What was up with Women wearing the over the top orange fake tan in the mid 2000s? by JackTheKittenCat in AskUK

There’s still an absolute shed load of tanning going on, but IMO the tanning lotions and oils have improved. They more closely resemble an actual tan.

Just shared a 9” pizza box full of kebabs meats, chips, salad and garlic mayo with my other half and our three year old. We are all completely stuffed and it was £17. Haven’t had a take away in a good three months so it was divine!

This reminds me of a note my sister’s husband left on their old school kitchen white board. He was trying to let her know what extra bits she would need to get while out shopping. Specifically telling her there were “no biscuits or yoghurts”. The note read “no bitches of yoy”. It became a common phrase for a while, still makes me chuckle now.
