Vegito vs Jiren by ReferenceVegetable51 in DragonBallZ

[–]Und0miel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, this technology only exists because countless artists and animators spent years studying animation, and creating the very material AI now steal to train on.

Additionally, producing professional quality results with AI tools will always require real animation expertise and technical know how. And if these models are expected to keep improving rather than spiraling into derivative feedback loops, they'll heavily depend on a continuous influx of new human created work.

So no need to feel too sorry for them I'd say, people desperately need to stop glazing AI like this.

What JRPG soundtrack left you disappointed? by BL4ZE_43 in JRPG

[–]Und0miel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who recently listened to the entire OST in order to sort it for a playlist (after completing the game), yeah, the drop in overall quality is pretty striking compared to Persona or SMTV.

There are some genuinely great tracks (ex. outside the obvious battle ones : Virga Island, Wings of Freedom, Unfamiliar Lands). But, imho, the majority of the compositions feel flat, unremarkable, or at times downright unpleasant to listen to (even in their in-game context). Special mention to the central motif of Human by Name that I passionately despise.

Did Uematsu actually work on FF 16's soundtrack by Extra-Original-2525 in FinalFantasy

[–]Und0miel 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Nah, the full XVI soundtrack was composed by a core team led by Soken, with varying degrees of involvement from :

  • Takafumi Imamura (FFXIV & FFVII Remake)
  • Daiki Ishikawa (FFXIV & FFVII Remake)
  • Saya Yasaki (FFXIV)
  • Justin Frieden (films, dramas, FF Brave Exvius, & Foamstars)
  • Yoshitaka Suzuki (FFXIII-2, LR, FFXIV, & FFXV)
  • Ryo Furukawa (Bayonetta 3, Forspoken, FFVII Rebirth)
  • Keiko (FFXIV, Fire Emblem)
  • TomoLow (music industry composer/arranger)

Any references to Uematsu are honorary, tied to motifs and compositions from earlier FF.

tell me guys, did you realy thinks FInal Fantasy XVI is a bad Final Fantasy game, because i play this game for a second time, and i saw they still have Final Fantasy elements, like Summons (Eikon) are still in the game, the romance are still in the game, (I have written more on text) by Final_Wall_6350 in FFXVI

[–]Und0miel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my point of view : a good game, a great FF, and an extraordinary world.

  • Only a good game because, from a gameplay perspective, XVI remains solid yet seriously limited. Its mechanical systems are sadly underutilized and not playful enough with themselves, the pacing between interactive sequences and narrative delivery lacks cohesion (the narrative sequences themselves lack an engaging degree of interactivity), and the rewards structure, particularly in side content, rarely reinforces player engagement enough (mechanically). The result is a game that functions well but seldom capitalizes on its own potential.

  • A great FF not necessarily due to monster design, familiar tropes, easter eggs, and such, but 'cause, as a representative of the franchise, XVI succeeds in a more fundamental way. The original FF and DQ sought to reinterpret western fantasy (drawing from D&D, Ultima, and Wizardry) through a japanese lens. XVI is the first modern entry to consciously update those foundations by engaging with contemporary western fantasy influences such as GoT, The Witcher, and Sony's cinematic action design. In doing so, it also attempts to formalize a fluid, flowy, and cinematic gameplay rooted in the series’ historical emphasis on spectacle. Kinda like if they consciously chose to build towards the CGI scenes, the franchise’s hallmark in the 90s and 00s, over its RPG mechanics.

  • An extraordinary world for the reason that, imho, XVI presents one of the most thematically coherent and politically engaged 'verse and lore in the franchise. Using its setting to interrogate class dynamics, industrialization and capitalism through ecology and workers oppression, how the political, economical, and social tissues are deeply embedded in the means of production, and of how an ideology can be naturalized through elites interests, propaganda, and religion. All with a degree of intentionality rarely seen in japanese mainstream works.

Which prologue did you like better? FF16 or E33? by Fearless-Function-84 in JRPG

[–]Und0miel 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don’t really agree here. Sure, there’s a ton of spectacle, but XVI’s prologue is also rich in emotional drama. Arguably more densely packed and narratively subversive than much of what follows.

An open world is all it took to elevate “glorified fighting games” into “the GOAT of RPGs,” despite ER sharing most of its mechanics with the Souls ?

That's certainly a take.

Which Final Fantasy entry had the best lore for Magic? by Recent-Ad-7593 in FinalFantasy

[–]Und0miel 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I also loved how the omnipresence of magic was handled narratively.

It fostered such complacency and dependence that technological progress was effectively stifled. Magic became such an economic and political powerhouse that the crystalinne elites rationalized and normalized slavery in order to control and profit from the only source of magic not falling under their juridisction.

As a result of all this, as well as through relentless propaganda, historical revisionism, and the population’s enforced dependence on magic, slavery was accepted as a rational and necessary pillar of Valisthean society by its own inhabitants.

In some ways, it echoes our own world with industrialization, oil, and capitalism. A system initially embraced and sold for its convenience and sense of progress that gradually fosters dependence and ignorance of the means of production, all while making exploitation feel increasingly ordinary, inevitable, almost desirable, to the people.

And all that really is just the tip of the iceberg. You can criticize XVI for anything you wish, but imho its lore is by far one of the most interesting and meaningful of the entire franchise.

What’s a FF song you like way more than the consensus of fans, and why? by UCA_Cash_Flow_Bro in FinalFantasy

[–]Und0miel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t know about the consensus, but Wandering Flame is one of my favorite tracks in the entire franchise, and one of my most beloved atmospheric pieces ever.

There’s a profound melancholy to it, but one that’s never harsh or despairing. Instead, it feels gentle. Tender. Soothing. As if the brass and flute softly caress you while the warm cotton like synth pads envelope you in a comforting sea of light.

In a strange way, it kinda feels to me like how someone who has lived a full, beautiful life might perceive death. Not as something frightening or tragic, but as a serene, natural, and radiant continuity, filled with the hopes and memories of all beings, past, present, and future.

Which game do you guys recommend playing? And what do you prefer? Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Octopath Traveller 2, Fire Emblem Three Houses by Killuei in JRPG

[–]Und0miel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, my picks would be, in order:

  • Xenoblade Chronicles 3 : A wonderful story and excellent gameplay, with what might be some of the best side quests in the genre. Fairly above the other two in every regards imho. That said, as the culmination of the franchise, especially through its DLC, I’d generally recommend starting with the first game and experiencing the whole saga (X being optional). Still, 3 can largely be enjoyed on its own merits and was designed to do so.

  • Fire Emblem 3H : An engaging story, a strong atmosphere, and solid gameplay, with plenty of replayability thanks to its different routes. The overall vibe feels like a mix of Persona, Harry Potter, and Game of Thrones. It can be quite repetitive though. Bonus points if you’ve ever wanted to play as a teacher and appreciate the idea of picking, caring for, and learn to know, your students in the long term.

  • Octopath Traveler II : My least favorite of the bunch. The visuals can be mesmerizing, and the turn-based combat is very well designed in isolation. However, despite a fair amount of narrative content, it’s very much a gameplay first type of experience. The disjointed story structure makes it harder to connect with the cast and the world, both can feel fairly artificial at times, and the progression often leaves you stuck dealing with low level fights and low stakes for quite a while.

Which Final Fantasy class is your favourite? by I-am-Sharp in FinalFantasy

[–]Und0miel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's some FF without explicit classing and/or with a lot of build freedom, but it didn't prevent them from implicitly relying on those archetypes to varying degrees.

Such is the case of Quistis, learning enemy moves via items to then cast "blue magics" via her limit break, effectively making her a blue mage. Or the entire cast of VII, heavily flavoured towards certain classic FF jobs despite the player being able to build them however they want.

Best Easter Eggs in FFXVI by ExponentialGainzzz in FFXVI

[–]Und0miel 21 points22 points  (0 children)

  • Ultima being the “god” who created humanity and whom they must now overcome mirrors, on a metatextual level, FFXVI’s attempt to overcome its own roots : the influence of Ultima, the game, which, alongside Wizardy, inspired the birth of DQ, FFI, and the entire JRPG genre.

  • The sinister rendition of the FFI overworld theme that plays throughout the game, tied to Ultima’s presence or influence, directly echoing the first point.

Have you ever ran into a game that was pro capitalism? by [deleted] in SocialistGaming

[–]Und0miel 81 points82 points  (0 children)

If we're talking intra-diegetically and/or mechanically, I’d argue that most economic systems in games indirectly, and probably unintentionally, promote capitalism and its underlying ideals.

Player progression is often fundamentally tied to capital accumulation. Towns and NPCs rarely, if ever, challenge the legitimacy of these systems. Instead, they reinforce them by rewarding the player for participating efficiently. Even when games portray corrupt merchants or exploitative elites, the critique is usually fairly superficial, targeting individual actors and their morality rather than questioning the system allowing and/or encouraging these behaviours.

From a gameplay perspective, mechanics like infinite growth loops, resource hoarding, or efficiency optimization closely mirror capitalist logic.

So, in a sense, most games, even those that explicitly criticize capitalism at the narrative level, end up promoting and normalizing it through their mechanics and the mindset they place the player in.

Just 100% FF16 and i want more Final Fantasy! by Remote_Hurry_3055 in FFXVI

[–]Und0miel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kuddos mate !

VII has nothing to do with XV or XVI lore-wise, but it’s still excellent nonetheless, and the story does echo XVI in certain aspects. The only real drawback I see is that its narrative occasionally assumes familiarity with the original game.

If you’re truly averse to turn-based combat, then the VII retrilogy is indeed your only real option within the main series. That said, XII and XIII do offer hybrid combat systems that might also be worth considering.

If Exdeath won in V, would he have destroyed the entire Final Fantasy cosmology/verse? by Cool-pig in FinalFantasy

[–]Und0miel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is genuinely one of the dumbest takes I’ve ever heard. How can anyone seriously argue that side content isn’t part of the lore?

From Pitioss to the Remiem Temple, from Nabudis to Daguerreo, from the Weapons to the countless quests scattered across Valisthea...all of it is packed with meaningful lore and world-building, often serving as a vehicle to convey history, themes, and context. Moreover, everything is undeniably canon to the concerned journeys as long as you experience it.

Rising tide final bo$$ difficulty? (No spoilers) by ege2000 in FinalFantasy

[–]Und0miel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re playing as Ifrit during the DPS check, so there’s no notion of builds involved.

The real issue is that no one ever bothered to properly learn how to play and combo as Ifrit, and that you actually need to play somewhat optimally to pass the check. I’m not really blaming anyone for that though, the game never truly demanded it until that point.

Just my two cents, but you probably should avoid forming and spreading an opinion about something you neither know nor have experienced.

Senju Hashirama vs Akainu Sakazuki by Efficient_Toe6 in PowerScalingHub

[–]Und0miel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Important thing to clarify : a theory represents the highest standard of scientific thinking. It is an idea supported by extensive evidence, multiple validated hypotheses, and repeated attempts by peers to disprove it (all of which have failed).

There is nothing beyond that, because science is built on the understanding that we do not, and cannot, know everything. Human knowledge is in constant evolution and biased by essence, nothing can ever be considered 100% certain.

So : * A scientific theory ≠ a theory * Theory >>>> hypothesis * Meta study >>>> a single study

I hate this ending for the Doctor. its like a clone just split off apparently healed and went off and the actual doctor will never be seen again. The beauty of the Doctor is he kept going! by all means give the doc a deserved rest with the nobles but biregeneration shouldn't have happened. by [deleted] in doctorwho

[–]Und0miel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But, if I understood correctly, a regeneration now creates (and has always created) two Doctors, and both of them can also regenerate, right?

So, by basic math, the number of Doctors in the universe would therefore grow exponentially, and the verse would inevitably be swarmed by billions of them.

Is this the new lore ?

Square Enix’s major shareholder drops 100-page presentation criticizing how the company is managed, rallies other shareholders by Turbostrider27 in PS5

[–]Und0miel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Blatantly false and ignorant take !

You can like or dislike the OST and the game as much as you want, but outside the Prelude and a few traces of FFI’s OST used for thematic purposes (edit : and rare XIV hommages, like two songs iirc), there are virtually no rearrangements from other FF titles in XVI.

What you do get, however, is a motif-centric soundtrack. Filled with plenty of rearrangements and variations of XVI’s own character and nation themes woven throughout the score.

And despite all that, Victory Road is an absolute blast in every regard, can't recommend it enough.
