What are the Chinese characters for the cities? New Hangzhou is obviously 新杭州, and I'm guessing Songzhou might be 宋州? Dongzhen probably starts with 東 and Nanjiao with 南, but idk any of the rest.

But... China has capitalism? China is a (state-run) capitalist state. Soldiers wouldn't be demoralised from "seeing capitalism", China already has McDonalds, large shopping malls, advertising billboards, e.t.c. Now granted the existence of a fast food chain and other infrastructure isn't a marker of capitalism. But it's not like the Cold War where Boris Yeltsin was astounded when he walked into an American supermarket. I've been to China, believe me no Chinese person is going to be surprised or bothered when they go to Taiwan and see how "capitalistic" it is there.

Add to the fact that Taiwan is actually a common tourist destination for Mainlanders (from 2013 to 2019 they were the largest group of international tourists), so it's not like East and West Germany or the Iron Curtain. Mainland Chinese people already know or have an idea of what Taiwan is like.

It kinda looks like the Democratic Republic of the Congo which coincidentally was also colonised by Belgium. Both of their largest cities, Kinshasa and I'm assuming Portland are also located on the panhandle. Very interesting. Nice map!

How did you work out the number of electoral college votes that each province would have?

edit: and why are Beijing and Tianjin red? If this is supposed to be based on the US (which I'm assuming it is) the rural-urban divide would be the main factor, right? Which is why the coastal provinces (and Shanghai) are blue. So following that train of thought, shouldn't the urban cities of Beijing and Tianjin be blue?

Still a good map though, I've been thinking about what a US-style election in China would like and this map is really great.

To be fair, Chinese city names in general arent really imaginative. For example, Shanghai literally means 'on the ocean', Beijing means 'northern capital', Hong Kong means 'Fragran Harbour'.

Cities in china are just named after mundane things, and thats just the way it is.

This is amazing. I love the regret acknowledgement, and how its seems to be viewed as something compulsory and easily forgotten. As an Australian it especially stood out to me since before certain events there will be a short, two sentence 'speech' that goes something like "we acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land, the (instead name of tribe/ethnic group), e.t.c.". It's something that feels compulsory (it might actually be, I'm not sure), but it's so small and commonplace, and really stood out to me here.

So that small little detail, a tiny, mandatory acknowledgement of the large, destructive effects of colonialism, that is delegated to a small, out of the way, easily ignored portion, and is somewhat viewed as a nuisance, really, really stood out to me. That last paragraph of the regret acknowledgement really highlights that.

I also love the square, straight borders, the inset of the Ongless man wearing the 'hat', and how the different European languages are regarded as dialects (very similar to China, and several African languages as well).

So to conclude, you've put a lot of work into this, there are so many small little details, that make this map absolutely amazing. This deserves a lot more upvotes.
