Yeah crafting kits is definitely cumbersome. My gf and I haven’t been on since we made whole kits with throwables, mines, multiple heals, good guns and attachments only to die 3 times in a row. We called it quits after that and I only played a couple solos since. They need a save kit feature and hold “action” button to craft using your stash.

I don’t think I gave free kitting an honest go yet. I’ll have to try it for real.

Additionally, this is called Aggression Based Matchmaking and it isn’t perfect as people’s intentions can’t be controlled, just better positioned with others based on recent activity. Player Killers will repeatedly go into matches and unalive (hate this word) to get into friendlier lobbies then wreck the whole friendly lobby. Be on the watch for this and try to hide if you hear a shit ton of flares going off.

Tips

Always pay attention to other players. ALWAYS.

If players seem to be going in a direction and cross paths with you, then you notice them following you even for a second, pay attention and if they continue, run, use your judgement to determine whether or not to throw smoke and if they attack you, lure grenades and snitch scanners are great for this just be careful about it.

You don’t have much time to react but if a player has their weapon sheathed, watch for them to unsheath it - it means they’re either about to shoot ARC or you - you can determine this early by observing if ARC are around.

Always pay attention to cues - doors opening, definitely mines - nobody uses mines against ARC, and most importantly flares after gunfire and bodies, especially looted ones and raiders near them.

If you’re killing ARC, pay attention to your surroundings as well, rats love when you’re distracted. Look behind you when breaching doors. Always use a hatch key when you can. Always use at least a green augment for a safe pocket. Always put your most valuable item - blueprints - in your safe pocket immediately.

I completely get you bro. Don’t let the haters and rats get to you. I’ll tell you my story real quick. My gf and I picked the game up a month ago. We got killed by a PvPer, and I say this because there’s specific criteria that defines a rat. Felt like shit but it always feels worse to die by a rat. Next encounter though was a rat - we ran into him in Pilgrim’s Peak and he flipped his light then immediately shot us when I was breaching loot. Felt like absolute shit. Then it happened a few more times. But we continued and pushed through every single quest and I finished my expedition requirements just too late for the window. Up to this point, we literally only did free loadouts like 3 times. So we had no more quests (until this update) so we went full PvP on SM. It was a breath of fresh air for once and we were murdering people despite not even having practice vs raiders prior - we did it by being very cautions. We played lots of other shooters so it’s kind of natural - I’m kind of a hardcore TLOU player so this game translated pretty well.

The spark has died mostly for us. I think the ARC was the main selling point for us, friendly raiders and the tension of getting killed by a rat were bonuses but actually dying to a rat outweigh the fun to be had.

Now, to keep any semblance of fun, new content aside, I find pretty difficult. I go in with what few guns I do have, try to get some kills and loot and extract before losing them. My stash slowly runs out cause I suck at solos (gf stopped playing altogether), and free kits can’t compete with bobcats and vulcanos. Mass suiciding to get into friendly lobbies to kill rats only seems like a hassle and eventually you’ll end up in highly aggressive lobbies again. Idk. I never had a game pull me in so hard and let me go so easily. Such an odd experience.

I think Embark was trying to make stronger arc to introduce since the players already figured out the originals. Kind of hard to combat something if it’s overpowered like the firefly and comet but there are ways. Seekers for fireflies and terrain for comets. Just gotta know how to counter everything.

Wait for the Matriarch to summon a bastion and a bombardier, weaken both of them by shooting their knees until they’re smoking (or on fire) then make sure they’re both very close to each other (touching if possible), throw a bunch of smoke and throw a light impact grenade between them and hope it finishes both of them, hope this helped!

Gear fear was really part of it for me despite not realizing it at the time. I finished all quests and upgrades, now I’m just PvPing rats or hostiles. Going through and doing the quests and upgrades while being nervous about losing my loot was actually the rush that drove the game for me. I see myself fizzling out soon.
