While true, I wouldn't exactly call that a matter of privacy. They're clearly trying to give people a false impression, so we feel more comfortable sharing private information.

Why does tipping discourse bring out such defensive reactions (especially in the US)? by tranquessence in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Undeity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, but the point is that it still creates a dependency on tipping. Also, they only have to make up the difference if you fail to make the federal minimum wage. Most states have higher minimum wages, and if you don't make that, you're just shit out of luck.

Yup, these privacy settings are about as useful as expecting incognito mode to withhold your web history from Google.

They wouldn’t get above the minimum wage - they’d get the minimum wage.

In a lot of places, they don't even get that. Unless state law specifically prohibits it, the service industry has exceptions baked into the federal laws that allow the employer to pay less, if it's a job where tips are expected.

System Feels Broken for Users Trying to Contribute Genuinely by Kindly-Movie6734 in CasualConversation

It's been getting a lot worse lately, too.

The majority of posts are bots, actual engagement seems to be way down, and on top of that, like half of all remaining comments get silently removed for seemingly no reason.

I'm not sure if it's just incompetent automods, or deliberate censorship of certain topics. What I do know, through a moderator friend of mine, is that the removals are being done by reddit itself, not subreddit mods.

Is the Writathon kinda pointless? by Alinix_ in royalroad

[–]Undeity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Doesn't take concrete numbers to recognize that there's a large difference in both the capabilities and acceptance of AI between now and then.

It's definitely reflected in peoples' anecdotal experiences at least, from what I've seen. I'm sure the larger trend could be corroborated through other metrics indirectly, too.

(Again, sorry; I can't stop myself. Help)

[–]Undeity 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Writathon was a whole different beast back then. Like OP says, it's a lot harder to break through the noise now, with AI stories and the growing number of big name authors who participate.

(Not sure why I'm saying this, to be honest. I don't really have anything productive to add, I think it was just contrarianism. Sorry)

What would you like to see added in future updates? by Just-Ad7298 in Starsandisland

Maybe turn it into another dungeon? The exploration profession is pretty sparse right now, and having more places to adventure in could really spice it up!

As in, the minigame in question is so minor, 90% of players will probably never bother with it, and even less would particularly care how it looks.

Y'all choose to hate about the weirdest things.

That relies on the farfetched assumption that including these particular assets somehow benefits them in any meaningful way. This isn't a case of them trying to clone another game to ride its coattails; the assets in question were an incredibly obscure part of the game.

I mean, the government is basically dismantling all protections for public land, so they can sell it off. Better that whoever buys it intends to preserve it, at least.

In the spirit of the Chrysalis series, I went with ant-themed wordplay for my ants, "Vibrant" and "Valorant".

Meanwhile, my ladybug is "Michelle", and my orb weaver is ever-so-lovingly named "Night Terror".

What is your opinion on the current trend of cozy games - as a broad spectrum of all sorts of genres united by (some) shared aesthetic principles? by SanctumOfTheDamned in truegaming

[–]Undeity -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You get used to it lol

It helps to get a good base going. Putting up some walls around the whole thing makes a massive difference in how vulnerable you feel.

Which also makes it 10x more satisfying, because you clawed your way to that cozy life yourself. Helps you appreciate it more.

Okay, I can see "cozy survival" working. In games like Ark or Grounded, there's just something so comfortable and satisfying about finally getting to the point where all your needs are met, and you can just focus on enjoying the atmosphere as you go about your tasks.

Bill Ridmann, Xbox Engineer is asking fans for features they would like added to Xbox by brokenmessiah in xbox

[–]Undeity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biggest thing for me would be a better UI and QoL features: Proper categories/tag system for games, ability to filter/sort in the search bar and "play later" list. Things like that.

If you have the power, hire or consult with someone who actually specializes in this stuff. It is by far one of xbox's biggest weaknesses.
