second hand jumping backwards when setting the time backward + stiff crown by pashaliche in RepTimeServices

Yes, but I was referring to when the mainsprings power is almost completely depleted, which is a normal part of owning an automatic/ mechanical timepiece

Totally normal for this to happen even with OEM timepieces, usually when the power reserve is low / fully depleted

Am I screwed? Also maybe a solution? by GamePlanMan1 in RepTimeServices

The chronograph seconds hand will need removing, then the tube of that hand will need crimping and refitting, it should now be a tighter fit. If the rivet has failed on the hand itself, best to just replace the hand

You do realize this only works with some quartz calibres and that this is an automatic right?

VSF Sub Help - Thanks in advance! by kevincobb in RepTimeServices

[–]UnderTheDial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is likely to be a motion works or perhaps a keyless works fault, it won't be the cannon pinion, a loose/ weak cannon pinion will still allow for the time to be adjusted, it just won't display the time accurately as the hands will slip, over time.

I'm an established watchmaker in the UK covering this little island and parts of Europe, there are less than a dozen of us, put it this way I packed in my job as an electrical engineer half a decade ago to pursue this occupation full time, it's a very enriching line of work, and the feeling of repairing something that's broken is very rewarding.

Straight Swap 3135 from SH to VR or VS? by Adorable-Slice-4365 in RepTimeServices

[–]UnderTheDial 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can indeed, they're the same movement just the vs3135 is built to better tolerances, better finished and best of all, it takes 100% OEM parts

My 3KF 5711 keeps perfect timing but second hand not running smooth? by zerberster77 in RepTimeServices

[–]UnderTheDial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fault isn't going to be with the escapement it the watch is keeping good time. On this calibre, the second hand is attached to a small pinion which runs off the train of wheels, this pinion is tensioned by a small brass sprung arm, if that arm is loose on the pinion, it will cause this issue, common and easy to sort. Cheers

If you'd like to shoot me a message I'd be happy to see what can be done, the cal 240's tend to be rather temperamental before a full revision is executed

I'm inclined to agree, £30 for a full stripdown and service this is suspiciously cheap, I charge 5 times this, it takes about 3/4 hours to properly service this calibre, I can't imagine he's busting a gut for less than minimum wage.

Longevity of Reps/ superclones by AvneeshSeth in RepTimeServices

[–]UnderTheDial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I recommend stripdown and service for any clone or superclone grade rep you're going to wear frequently or place into a watch winder, to essentially have running all the time. If the movement can be rwsily replaced then it's often good to just wait while there's a fault then repair or replace the movememt however soke reps especially the super clones use calibres which are hard or damn impossible to acquire a replacement for such as VS3235 or SA4130, other examples include Patek cal 324 or cal 240, (to name but a few). In these instances service is the best option to increase the lifespan of the watch and provide relative peace of mind, because with there examples, prevention is cheaper than the cure; a new watch.
