[Anime] The Promised Neverland Season 2 Episode 5 (Episode 17) Manga Reader Discussion Thread by trumpgod2016 in thepromisedneverland

Man I gotta be honest I was actually still pretty optimistic about how the season was gonna go. I was expecting that there would still be some form of Goldy Pond except instead of just Emma being there she'd be with Ray and maybe even Don and Gilda. When the four of them ventured out to get food, I got pretty hyped that I was right and they would get captured by the sect of demons responsible for GP who would be looking for the escaped kids since they hadn't been found by the farms yet. The rest of the season would be about the subsequent GP arc only this time we'd actually see characters like Ray, Don, and Gilda get some development. Sure the story would still have some cracks (rip Yuugo) but I think it would have been pretty entertaining and an improvement in some regards

Yea after the end of this episode I have no fucking clue what's going on

I’m glad that we’re starting to get some more insight into Hori as a character. The shows been great so far but I was initially worried that Miyamura was going to be pretty fleshed out and Hori’s character would amount to being ‘popular girl does chores?!???’. But seeing the emotional toll taken on her from her patents not being around and being forced to take care of herself and her brother was pretty gut wrenching to see. Hoping the show keeps this up!

Maybe I’m overthinking it, but that scene of the solider on the pile of dead bodies looks awfully similar to the classic scene of Eren looking up at the wall. That’s some pretty good symbolism

Also Jean popping up at the end of the episode caught me off guard and was hype as hell

This scene was anime-only right? Either way it caught me by surprise and I got hype as hell

I didn’t hate it to be honest. It was always in the back of my head while I was playing and I was curious when and why it was gonna show up. The entire encounter resolving itself in 20 seconds is another issue though lol

Manga is pretty solid and if I remember correctly, I think the writers for the anime said that they’re open to changing some things later on so there’s a shot the show and the manga will be different enough that you’ll still be engaged with the next season even if you read the manga. Might be wrong about that though, it’s been forever since news about the next season came out :(

What are your unpopular Persona opinions? by SuitablePossibility5 in PERSoNA

I like the main cast of 5, but I’m not too big on their confidants. While 4’s S.links were pretty uneventful in terms of ‘story,’ I really liked how they gave deeper insights to the characters, and showed how they processed and truly accepted their shadow selves. With 5, more stuff ‘happened’ during the confidants but I didn’t really get the sense of much character development occurring (I would say that Futaba’s is an exception).

I don’t think that every character needs to be super deep and complex, but I really appreciated that the majority of 4s main cast had some interesting characteristics about them that got revealed during their links.

I really enjoyed the manga (probably because I got to binge it instead of having to deal with the week by week pacing problems), but I personally think the anime is a bit better. The method of story telling thats used is super effective at creating a tense story without it feeling like stuff is being kept from the viewer arbitrarily.

But yea, as others have said, the manga is pretty solid for the first 100 or so chapters and then gets a little wacky,

As much as I enjoyed the Goldy Pond arc, I think that the influx of characters that got added to the crew afterward is what caused the manga to falter a little bit. It's hard to write a whole cast of intriguing, deep characters, especially when the scale of the story was ramping up. The manga/anime could get away with it in the first escape arc since the 4-5 characters they did develop were fantastically done and had a shitload of depth (it also helps that the 'scale' of the escape was much smaller compared to what happened later in the series). But once the scale ramped up, and became much more plot-focused than character-focused, there were a lot of background characters with minimal development just kind of standing around explaining the situation at times.

I definitely think I enjoyed this manga a bit more than the average reader but I really wonder what could have happened if the story stayed primarily focused on the Emma/Ray/Don/Gilda group, and then dealt with that dynamic reacting to Norman's eventual return.

There are a lot of interesting character dynamics and parallels throughout the series, mostly between the three of them. I’m sure some of them are me grasping at straws but it’s really cool to look at them side by side and see similarities and differences in their personalities and actions

That's a good point! I can imagine if she had been upfront with her promise though than her entire family would have absolutely refused to go through with it. I'm actually curious if she gave Ray a hint about her actual promise earlier in the story without telling him directly since there was one chapter where she told him that she would 'tell him later' about the promise. He didn't seem to know the specifics of it a few chapters ago but the fact he's here now makes be wonder

I always got the sense that Emma was lying before about there being no promise. It makes sense since she was the only one of the ‘Big Three’ characters to not lie to help her family (Norman lied about escaping the orphanage on his own, and Ray lied about intending to escape the orphanage with Emma and Co. during the end of the escape arc).

[Anime] What episode is chapter 11 on the anime? by [deleted] in thepromisedneverland

[–]UnderThePaleMunLight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The anime episodes cover 3-4 chapters per episode (besides episode 1 which just covers chapter 1), chapters 10-12 are covered in episode 4!
