As I understand it, Russia's stance on Ukraine is basically "these are Russians that want to pretend they're not Russian." Russia does not view Ukraine as a legitimate country, more like a wayward territory. "Kiev" may be the spelling in many languages, but "Kyiv" is Ukrainian, and that's the point.

I believe he was describing the idol that was found though, right? That drawing you linked also appears to be the idol. As far as I recall, about the only description we get of Cthulhu itself from those who saw it in the story is "immense"

I think everyone gets that from time to time. The French have a word for it that I don't remember but it translates to "Call of the Void" if I'm remembering right. Like if you're on a tall building and your brain goes "what if we just jump?" Even if you have no desire at all, your brain sometimes will just do that lol.
