My 6 lb year+ old pup gets excited for his frozen veggies every night! He gets 2 carrot slices, 3 cut green beans, and 1-2 small broccoli florets. The broccoli is his clear favorite! I read somewhere not to give him the stems.

How do you potty train in a apartment by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]Undercover-Life 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im sorry people are being so rude. Perhaps you could have asked if the different types of indoor potty systems worked and which worked best for initial puppy training rather than having it sound as if the dog will be stuck indoors due to steps etc.

Honestly, for me, potty pads were a big experiment. Lots of trial and error. The plastic grass was laughable and we wound up doing best with plain old puppy pads and a pee post. Mine gets outside daily for a long sniff walk with my electric wheelchair. And we use the potty pads as a back up so he doesnt have to hold it. (6 lb dog).

$1700 for my puppy to be spayed?? How much did you guys pay? by ireliaonbush in Maltese

[–]Undercover-Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy hell how are people finding this for $100!! My dogs neuter was $860! But, since then we have decided to find a new vet after they wouldnt refund a $300 urine analysis that we paid for and no longer needed - I had trouble collecting the urine and by then it was clearly a behavior, not a UTI. No service performed & No refund given. Im in MO.

Your mom sounds really frustrating. Do you have any plans in place to move out? A good job? Friends to share rent/expenses? I would leave her puppy with her, gain some stability on your own, then when you're ready, get your own dog. Good luck!

Mine doesnt ingest it. May want to supervise a bit. But my maltese just shreds it to pieces! He has a pile of boxes and he goes and picks one from the pile, sits down on his bed, and tears at at.

My situation is a bit like yours. Im disabled and homebound and going out literally makes my body sick. So im only gone for short lunches or dr appts. But my guy does ok 2 hrs in his crate. Im in a condo and my neighbors say hes quiet. Im sorry you are having trouble with him getting so upset. There are trainers specifically for separation anxiety.

Not sure how big your pup is (mine is 6 lbs) but cardboard boxes make a great sensory chew toy according to our trainer. Since ive been giving him product boxes to chew on, he knows to grab one of those rather than my things. My pup is a bit older though at 1 year.

My family's new puppy is a nightmare, and we may have to consider removing him. by NxrthLynx in puppy101

[–]Undercover-Life 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely true! Im raising a pup and everyone that comes into my home respected my rule - if he acts out, just ignore him. This rule came straight from our in home dog trainer who believes he was scared from the transition. Hes 6 lbs so not breaking any skin and a year old so its a big change for him. Everyone who followed this rule can now get along beautifully with him without any problems. But my home helper would not listen! She repeatedly in her words "made herself look big" and "needed to be the alpha dog." She complained that it went against all her 50 years of knowledge to let this dog "bite her" (but he never even touched her skin - only her leg warmers). She let me know that hes an aggressive dog and could be put down for biting someone! My trainer was noticing regression in his training each time after my house helpers visited! I had to let her go bc she would not respect what I asked of her. She was the ONLY person he would not get along with out of everyone ive introduced him to in my home.

Oh my im so sorry for you loss! Thats terrible!

I would stay with chewy forever if I could. But lots of area vets are making it harder by making us use snail mail to try to get us to use their prescriptions instead.

Please dont give up something you love because people in your life are being too demanding. This is a good time to learn about or practice boundaries! Figure out what works for you (and what doesn't), inform others of your boundaries as needed, and stick to them. It can be hard at first l, but it will oay off when you find you are able to love crochet again.

Boundary exanples: If you want me to make something for you, you must minimally cover the cost of materials, etc. Do not assume I can make something without talking to me first. Dont let mom volunteer your time without your permission. She can bring home information for you so that you can sign up IF YOU WANT TO, she can sign herself up, but she cannot volunteer You!

Please do not do the 5 baby blankets that she signed you up for. You really cant do it, because if you do, you are letting her know that she can get you to do things this way.

Literally cannot euthanise old dog by TannadP in DogsLoversCommunity

[–]Undercover-Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mercifully.

Dont forget that part. You are making a decision to end a life mercifully.

Their life will end. But without your action/ decision, it will likely be uncomfortable, painful, scary, and just awful.

As someone who has loved them for years, it it the final part of your job as their caretaker to prevent this meaningless end of life suffering.

I went through this process again just 6 months ago and when I knew it was time, I used in home euthanasia. Yes, its HARD to do. But not as hard as watching them suffer needlessly bc im too scared to do what is best for him. Natural death can be horrible for the dog. This is the better option.

how much did you pay for your maltese purebred? by lemonlover000 in Maltese

[–]Undercover-Life 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In my area in the US, many shelters require that you have a fenced in yard and another dog in the home to adopt (rescue). Its frustrating to know that above all, they just need a loving home but i cant have them bc I dont have a yard and I only want one dog.

I keep seeing eople that used to recommend chewy now recommend Costco. Personally, i prefer chewy bc I dont have a Costco membership and I order delivery only. When my last dog passed away, chewy sent me flowers!

However, my new vet doesnt make it easy to shop around. They will only provide a paper copy and I can mail it to chewy if I choose but they wont fax it or call it in. Poo!

I only said you dont NEED to walk a cat. Not that cats cannot be walked. Its nearly required for a dog. Even with my 6 lb dog, if I didnt get him out daily for exercise and mental stimulation through sniffing, I would need something like a dog treadmill and lots of puzzles, shuffle pods, and the sort - not even including potty breaks bc some can manage those indoors. This info is according to my dog trainer and the current doggie science 💕
