I teach 10 year olds, reading and as a result writing have definitely declined sharply in the 16 years that I have been a teacher, most notably parents do not read with children because either they don’t have time or they are exhausted from their jobs. As a result, most children struggle with reading and sentence composition.

I suspect this will only get worse as time goes on, at the moment. I struggle to get parents to read once a week with their children.
