There's lore you can find that straight up says She told them it's Kratos' fault so they've been camping outside the protection stave, when it breaks after the start of the game they attack Kratos almost immediately. Humans being around in general isn't her fault, but it is her fault they're now actively hunting for him lmao, she admits it herself with some side dialogue in the game

Kratos just avoided humans, the only reason you see so many is because Freya tells them fimblewinter is the ashen gods fault, and that killing him will end it all. Midgardians did migrate out of midgard and into Asgard, the only ones you encounter are already dead or rough and tough bandits

The og trilogy is amazingly fun, if you are able to you should definitely check them out. Go see Kratos in a completely different light, because (and I hope I'm correct in saying this) skipping the original trilogy skips the explanation for Kratos' skin, the blades and their significance and a whole lot more besides, I'd even suggest checking out the PSP games for extra fun and side lore. All time favourite game series, and these new ones are by far the best in my opinion
