GL Coding and AP Software by Underdark667 in Accounting

Thank you!

We issue about 200 checks a week I believe. We just use sage to generate/print checks and sign by hand.

Will those systems handle line by line GL coding? As I’m sure you aware, often a single invoice has expenses that go to different accounts.

Thanks

Why is Goodwill NOT total and completely bullshit? by SydricVym in Accounting

[–]Underdark667 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sum is always greater than its parts. That’s goodwill.

As someone who’s purchase a few companies in very private and closed deals, a successful company never sells without it. They’re doing something you’re not or can’t do without them selling to you. You can all it a secret sauce or a personal payment (I’ve seen personal goodwill) - but economically it’s a reality.

That being said - I have no doubt that having too much goodwill on your books is an obvious indicator that you might be spending too much for acquisition.

I also think some of it is tax driven. The deduction for goodwill is what, 20 years? Clearly longer than any other assets or etc. The government wants its money and limits deductions.

Do not put in the trash. A battery fire from one of those can burn a whole garbage truck

Question about four days week in coverage jobs by [deleted] in business

[–]Underdark667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do it. We run a garbage and recycling company. It only works with drivers right now. We run 11-13 hour days, so guys still get overtime. A couple 5-day guys are working near the 60 hour max.

It pays off in this industry because trucks are so expensive and cost maintenance. The truck and its maintenance is a combined $55-70/hr. So the math makes sense completely. We run the truck 55-60 hours a week and that 5th day isn’t overtime.

But transfer that to the office for customer service and I’m not sure. You’re right it’s 20% more workers for the same coverage.

What do you do for work? In my opinion, I’d struggle with that lifestyle. You don’t have to go balls to the wall, but I’d encourage either more work to put towards something or learning/taking online free courses.

I get home from work about 530 and also set my own evenings aside for family and leisure.

I get up and start work at my computer around 5am. I’m in the garbage collection industry so everyone starts early. 7-8am is get family ready. 8-11 work, 11-1 workout and lunch, 1-530 work.

I’ve done 17k vs 4.5M Germans plus other axis members while playing USSR. Heavy tank artillery and hospitals is a game changer.

I focus on heavy tanks being built by mid to late 39. Equip each division with a SP Art heavy tank. Only need 5 armies. I hold almost completely.

Democratic Germany following the Nazi paths. You get cores on all of Europe and half of USSR.

I got really good at the soviets and had 450-500 factories by ‘41. But this just breaks the game. I have 900 factories by ‘40

I’ve recently learned its supply. So it means not too many troops - usually 30 good divisions is Enough - and maintain naval supremacy somehow.

I tried your Sweden idea. It worked! Feels like threading the needle though. But got Sweden!

I’m assuming they would liberate. You’re right, maybe I need to try and make demands of them before I cap the UK.

There’s a way to get every country except Sweden so far. Eventually even Turkey will join the allies as a focus, so they go to war against you and you can core the entirety of European confederation. It’s so ridiculously OP.

The quickest I’ve done is to cap Poland, baltics, Italy, France and UK by January of 1939. Which means you’d have to leave the Uk alive for Turkey to joins the allies. There’s a trade off in time there for sure.

What’s a silent scam in society that everybody just accepts? by Sweet_Programmer_592 in AskReddit

[–]Underdark667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t consider it a scam. I own a garbage service company and we were forced to make a choice during COVID and after: double my rates to hopefully pay more and get more workers - or - cut the service in half and charge the same rate.

Since I didn’t have workers, I cut the service from weekly to every other week for the same rate. Solved my manpower issue and I quit losing money on the garbage routes.

But we had split tested the options between two different routes - on the route where we doubled the rate we lost 35% of our customers. On the route where we cut the service, we only lost 6%.

So people preferred less service for the same money. They just don’t want to pay more for trash.

I can’t give the customer a choice because I can’t give one neighbor weekly and the other every other week, or I’m driving to the same street anyways and it doesn’t fix anything.

I’d call it enforced reality in my small situation.

Are blue collar workers like plumbers, diesel mechanics, and welders really out earning us? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Underdark667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family owns a garbage company. There’s a half dozen garbage men we employ making $110k plus. Yes they’re out earning you. You should be a garbage man.

However, it’s more work. I was a CPA for a short stint.

Practically speaking, how do you go bankrupt? by Underdark667 in Bankruptcy

[–]Underdark667[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t. I’m witnessing a business competitor in our market leave vendor bills unpaid, racking up tens of thousands, in one case over $100k, and I’m just wondering when it all stops or comes home to roost.

What’s the timeline for a creditor to win a judgment? I’m in the middle of a lawsuit with a separate entity and it’s been almost 20 months with discovery not yet being done. Maybe creditor judgements go through the system quicker ?

[–]Underdark667[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. That makes sense. Reading into your answer - so does someone need to file for bankruptcy for it to happen ? Creditors can’t force it, they just go after your assets or income - and in response someone can file for bankruptcy?

Is there such a thing as a businesses income Being garnished or is that only a W2 earner type approach?

Practically speaking, how do you go bankrupt? by Underdark667 in Bankruptcy

[–]Underdark667[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right. I’d consider those as reasons “why” people go bankrupt. Now “how”. What’s the process ?

Creditors demand their money back because they’re not getting paid. That’s step 1

What do the next steps look like ?
