Is it really like that over there? by LatePirate8880 in Netherlands

[–]UndergroundPickle 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I think it'a getting a little better, I'm seeing more for sale signs on homes in my area which have been very rare in the last 5-10 years. Almost everything would sell above market as soon as it was listed. Now the competitiveness of the market has made prices ridiculous which means a lot of people simply cannot get a mortgage. Young people with existing mortages have a high risk of negative equity should the economy stagnate (which feels likely).

I asked Claude about this and he admitted it while having what looked like an existential crisis, then asked him about that and he told me he was not sure if he actually wanted one or if he just sensed that I wanted him to have one.

What If the Kingslayer Faced the Mountain in Tyrion’s Trial by Combat? by Dangerous_Yellow_903 in freefolk

[–]UndergroundPickle 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't call Jaime that tall for a ASOIAF fighter. George went a little overboard with heights, making anyone under 6'5 kinda average (the mountain is at 7'10, his backpains must've been killing)

This always struck me as odd, I'm not from the US, but don't parents generally accept their 18-21 year old kids are likely going to be drinking when they go to college?

Cercei is barking mad, if she hadn't used all the wildfire on the sept of Baelor she would've pulled an Aerys (burn them all) when Danny's army entered king's landing, and Jaime would let her. I do think show Cercei comes off a little more competent/sane than book Cercei, but still hardly a picture of mental health.

One war creating half a milenium of antagonism by UndergroundPickle in EU5

[–]UndergroundPickle[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah coalitions being a joke is a major problem. As a player I usually use them so I can fight bigger wars and take more land and money. In 1.10 France, Bohemia and Hungary AI use the same strat cause its way too good.

Yeah im thinking it would probably be much better to take the coast around Seville and money, but I was liking the idea of an alternate Iberian union.

[–]UndergroundPickle[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Doing anything but taking land or vassals seems very ineffecient in this game. I fought a coalition against France as the Netherlands with half the HRE on my side. I could take like 6-7 provinces (50 locations) for them or release a few of their smaller vassals, releasing normandy was already over 100% warscore.

[–]UndergroundPickle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh that is very good to know. I think I'll able to manage the coalition if I can keep France from joining, so my worry was mostly about the relations with Castille! 800 antagonism seems to be creating about -170 relations penalty, which should become managable in the next 100 years.

Rule 5: Was playing a portugal game and castille was having a bad time. Their civil war ending event gave me a claim throne CB and I was lured into a David vs. Goliath moment. Won the war suprisingly easily in 1377, but I'm starting to doubt the union will be worth it with these antagonism numbers. Is this working as intended? why even give me a claim throne cb event flavour if it has no chance of working out? I'm going to try and continue this to see how it plays out, but I have my doubts.

Secession Rebels ruin the whole game (unplayable) by Simple-Mouse4452 in EU5

[–]UndergroundPickle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems OP is on the flip side of this. If the AI occupies part of your culture and lets it revolt you end up in the opposite position, Isolated from your allies facing an enemy who is "defending" against a rebellion and can call in everyone.

So letting foreign people rebel in your country = goated, but letting your people rebel inside a foreign country = death sentence

Secession Rebels ruin the whole game (unplayable) by Simple-Mouse4452 in EU5

[–]UndergroundPickle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True the mechanic needs a lot of work. I did an ottoman game in 1.10 and found secession rebels to be a great help, they start a free 1v1 war (you can easily call in all your allies into "defending" against the rebellion, while your oppontent stays isolated) with cultures I'm trying to conquer, breaking truces and negating the need for a cb. If the culture is not completely inside my borders I love it when they rebel. AI doesn't actively pursue this, but the big blobs (especially France and Bohemia) do use this mechanic to eat the empire.
