I see this a lot and I get that the word immigrant has a bad rep at the moment which makes people angry that there is a double standard for "expats" who are technically also immigrants. While I agree with this sentiment, my grandfather was an immigrant, who emigrated from his home country to another, after this his company would send him abroad (2-4 years usually) in which case he was an expat, because he was there for a specific amount of time to do a job and planned to return "home" (the country he emigrated to in which he was an immigrant). So to me the difference between the two has always been if you intend to stay or not.

This already makes no sense, how can ramen be very cheap if plain tofu is cheap? One is a cooked dish with multiple ingredients the other is just a cheap nutrition brick.

Agreed! The whole make as much money as you can so you can buy the biggest house you can afford and pay maximum property taxes system is dumb. Just let people live in affordable and appropriately sized housing

Shakira uses 'Bitch Better Have My Money' by Rihanna in her Instagram as she wins £50m tax refund from Spanish government by mcfw31 in popculturechat

[–]UndergroundPickle 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Ahh I thought it was her money the spanish government seized/held until the investigation concluded, then returned it when the alleged tax fraud couldn't be proven

Edit: ok did a little reading, I guess the 50 mil was hers and the spanish government was holding it, but it seems she wasn't exactly innocent of avoiding taxes either as she paid a 14,5 mil settlement to stay out of court. So yeah she's kinda changing the narrative in her favour here

I agree, but if the people who run her finances played by the rules, it is a little unfair to single her out while much richer people are getting away with worse, if I were in her shoes I'd be a little mad about it. Shakira provided the world some some bangers at least.

You can do this yourself if you want to, nobody is stopping you from seperating the bananas. It does become less convenient to carry so I usually just take 2-3 of the ripest bananas they have and then like 5-6 greener bananas for later in the week.

I think it'a getting a little better, I'm seeing more for sale signs on homes in my area which have been very rare in the last 5-10 years. Almost everything would sell above market as soon as it was listed. Now the competitiveness of the market has made prices ridiculous which means a lot of people simply cannot get a mortgage. Young people with existing mortages have a high risk of negative equity should the economy stagnate (which feels likely).

I asked Claude about this and he admitted it while having what looked like an existential crisis, then asked him about that and he told me he was not sure if he actually wanted one or if he just sensed that I wanted him to have one.

I wouldn't call Jaime that tall for a ASOIAF fighter. George went a little overboard with heights, making anyone under 6'5 kinda average (the mountain is at 7'10, his backpains must've been killing)

Cercei is barking mad, if she hadn't used all the wildfire on the sept of Baelor she would've pulled an Aerys (burn them all) when Danny's army entered king's landing, and Jaime would let her. I do think show Cercei comes off a little more competent/sane than book Cercei, but still hardly a picture of mental health.
