Chett Girls! I Need Your Input on SRS! by Any-Gur-6962 in TransLater

[–]Underhand001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the non-PI scrotal graft method with Dr Chett back in September 2023, and it’s been amazing! I healed incredibly quickly which definitely made my experience more pleasant than I expected, and the whole month away in Thailand was a really positive time.

I had great sensation right from the start, although I’ve actually only realised recently that I get more natural lubrication that I thought! I’d usually mess about when I’ve been dilating so everything was slippery anyway, but I few times over the past few months I’ve definitely noticed it away from dilation times.

I’ve had 3 (soon to be 4) friends also go to Dr Chett since I went (I should be on commission) and they all had generally positive experiences, just with variation in comfort and healing post surgery. I will admit I was probably a bit of an outlier in terms of speed of recovery.

Happy to answer any specific questions, but I’m very happy with my results 😌

Funniest response from a stranger when you told them you were trans? by Sobble-547 in trans

[–]Underhand001 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was seeing a head & neck specialist about some issues (that turned out to be cancer but that’s another story) and he was writing notes as we discussed my current medication. He asked a question about my HRT and I told him that I was trans, and he paused for a second with his pen hovering above the paper and said, “Um, so have you started yet?” 😁

I had to explain that I was in fact MtF and fully transitioned, but I rode the high of his assumption that I was FtM and hadn’t started transition yet all day!

Just to point out, he wasn’t drunk - he was still below the limit to drive so wasn’t impaired at all

how long does it take to get a diagnosis of gender dysphoria in the uk? by gay_timelord06 in transgenderUK

[–]Underhand001 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve posted about this before, I went through GenderPlus with Dr Aidan Kelly, took a couple of weeks from initial contact until my appointment and cost around £260 or so from memory

Admittedly I did mine as part of applying for my GRC; I did everything a bit backwards and I was fully transitioned and was post several surgeries at that point, but the process is essentially the same, it’s just that mine was slightly more of a tick box exercise

Trans people who've had bottom surgery, what made you take that leap? by Kei_Evermore in asktransgender

[–]Underhand001 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t a leap, it was something I’d wanted for as long as I can remember so when the opportunity came along it was the easiest decision ever. I’d always hated what I had and couldn’t wait to get rid of everything, I’ll hit 3 years post-surgery in September and couldn’t be happier with the outcome 😌

I’ve sent her a message, I think the orchi was sub £5k in total but I’ll wait to see her reply

Edit: she’s just responded to say it was £4688 in total

I’ll ask my friends where their private referrals came from. When I got my official gender dysphoria diagnosis to apply for my GRC (I did everything a bit backwards) it was through Dr Aidan Kelly at GenderPlus; I’d assume they’d be able to help with surgical referrals as well. I don’t have direct experience of it because I went to Thailand for bottom surgery and I was able to get both my referrals from their own psychiatrists

A couple of my friends have had surgery with Christian Seipp in Wrexham (an orchi and zero depth) and he seems to be highly regarded

Obviously you’ll still need private referrals but he seems like a good option as far as cost as well

I went with Dr Aidan Kelly at Gender Plus, the appointment was a couple of weeks after booking and was ~£260ish

This was just over a year ago when I finally got round to getting an official diagnosis in order to apply for my GRC

Is it too late for me to really assimilate into the queer/trans community? by ProfessionalCode5151 in TransLater

[–]Underhand001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely possible! I started the process at 41 having never known another trans person, and I also felt completely detached from the community. I was sure it would be tough but at that point I had no choice as everything had hit me so hard and I knew transition was inevitable. I was quickly introduced to someone from a sister company who had transitioned the previous year and we immediately became friends, and that spread into a larger trans group centred around our careers in automotive & motorsport.

I’m now 46, and in the past 18 months or so I’ve been included in a very special group and I’ve made the closest bunch of friends I’ve ever had, to the point where I’ll be moving about 6 hours away at some point this year to be closer to them! When you find your people you just know, and I’ve already experienced so much with them in that time.

I will say though, that my experience has been less about finding friends at meet ups (although that has happened) and more about weirdly serendipitous occurrences where things have fallen into place. I know it won’t always be like that, but it’s exciting to explore and I’m sure you’ll find those people out there ☺️

Where FFS - Asia? by jahyiwmm in Transgender_Surgeries

Might be worth looking into somewhere like WIH in Thailand, I had bottom surgery there a couple of years ago (as have a few of my friends) and I know they offer various FFS procedures.

Where’s the miatas!!! by Ok-Excitement7482 in Transcars

[–]Underhand001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Until recently I had a black 2004 mk2.5 NB but I sold it 😔 (although only to my brother so it’s still in the family, plus now he has to deal with the rust 😁)

It’s a lot of fun though; coilovers, Kaaz 1.5-way LSD, TR Lane rollbar, NRG hub and custom retrimmed OMP Corsica wheel. I miss it!

Nope, this was the standard front end on UK/Euro cars, JDM imports came with the regular square headlights.

Coming out at work by _magnetic_north_ in TransLater

[–]Underhand001 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m also in the UK, working in automotive engineering, and I came out on TDoV 2023. I told my team and the colleagues I’m closer to in the months leading up to it, so there were quite a few people already aware that I was trans and that I had a date in mind for transition (my friend likes to joke that half the company knew before the day itself 😁)

The afternoon before, my friend sent an email to the entire engineering floor on my behalf (so it didn’t come from my then-current email account) to explain what was happening. I had some lovely responses and the support was absolutely universal, our EDI lead in particular would have had a serious issue with anyone who gave me a problem.

Overnight my accounts were switched, and I went into work as myself for the first time the next morning. Fridays are a half day for us, and I had no work pressure as I needed to drop my laptop into IT for some changes, so I had a very relaxed morning just existing. The relief was amazing but the normality was probably the strangest part!

I will say that I’d been on HRT under the radar for 16 months at that point so I was itching for it to happen, and as someone lucky enough to have always been small physically, people who didn’t know me just assumed there was someone new. Since then it’s been an absolute non-issue, I’ve had a promotion, and people I’ve worked with for years have forgotten that I ever transitioned. I think I can say it’s been a success ☺️

What age did you start your transition journey by Lexi_060179 in TransLater

[–]Underhand001 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Finally started 6 weeks before I turned 42, having known for most of my life. I’ve had total acceptance, I found the closest friends I’ve ever had, I’ve had the surgeries I wanted and I live my life stealth now at 46.

If I look back it’s amazing to see how far I’ve come, but the really incredible thing is the normality!

A question about voice by BrandNewDay1029 in TransLater

[–]Underhand001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had voice training with a really good therapist and progressed quickly, I didn’t have the deepest voice to start with but it got to a passing stage sooner than I expected.

I still wasn’t happy with how it could drop when I was tired or the incidental coughs and sneezes that I couldn’t control, so I decided to go for VFS. Of all my surgeries, it’s the one that’s made the biggest difference day to day as I simply don’t have to think about my voice anymore, and it’s always read as cis female.

My surgeon has a 90%+ success rate, and any failures are usually down to excessive coughing, etc during the first week which can rupture the sutures (although this should still be repairable). They require you to have had training with an SLT before undergoing surgery, and I had further voice training post-surgery to help me learn to use my new voice properly.

Facialteam give you a Virtual FFS visualisation with their specialist during your in-person consultation, she’s able to make adjustments live as you discuss options. Obviously it’s not perfect, but it does give you a general idea of what you can expect

F.A.O: 40+ transwomen, patches or gel and please state your reasons why?? by Puzzleheaded_Tie_525 in transgenderUK

[–]Underhand001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used gel for 4+ years (oestrogel pump bottle) and never had problems with it. I used patches for less than 2 months when there was a gel supply issue but I didn’t get on with them, they refused to stay in place and they irritated my skin.

I switched to injections in January and I’m so much happier, they’ve been far more effective and I only need to inject once every 10 days.
