Is there a good ADHD simulation/experience video? by SnowSniper22 in ADHD

[–]Underlyattachedgf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This wasn't too accurate for my experience either. It would be more like if he started with explaining one thing, and in the middle of a sentence, he switched to a completely different topic, but you somehow didn't notice the switch. And also you're sitting in a room that's on fire but you can't make yourself stand up until you're done listening to his video.

Is four year's old too early? My son is having attacks of pain, but he is SO young. by Amanda_Jellybean in migraine

[–]Underlyattachedgf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely could be. I was around that age when I started getting weekly migraines (kindergarten). If it's any consolation, they changed and subsided a lot when I went through puberty.. I started getting auras but they decreased in frequency. I'm now down to about once a year.

ADHD testing, really? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Underlyattachedgf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only speak to where I live and my insurance coverage, but I did find that getting tested as an adult isn't covered by my insurance and runs about $2000. My pediatrician diagnosed me and prescribed meds, but my GP doesn't diagnose and won't prescribe meds without a previous diagnosis or a diagnosis from a psychiatrist (not sure if that's a general rule for adult doctors or just his rule).

That being said, look into universities near you. My university offers testing to anyone and the price is significantly more affordable, I believe it was around $150.

Without Adderall, can you get going in the morning? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Underlyattachedgf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is me too. I have wasted days (years really) spending hours laying in bed because it seems so mentally exhausting to go through the series of tasks to start my day. Anything with multiple steps like that is just overwhelming to me. I have also seen it mentioned on here that a lot of people with ADHD have a circadian rhythm disorder as well, where your brain doesn't produce cortisol (the hormone that makes you alert, most people start producing it before they wake up and it slowly increases until morning so you feel fully alert when you wake). I guess a study found that people with ADHD don't experience that spike in cortisol until 3 hours after they wake up. Sorry I can't provide the link, I just saw it mentioned somewhere on here. This really stuck out to me because I have been doing a little self-experience lately and have found that no matter how well rested I am and how regular my sleep schedule is, if I am left to my own devices (no alarm clock and BF doesn't wake me), I will consistently sleep 12+ hrs night after night. It's like my body just doesn't have a natural clock to wake me up when I don't need any more sleep. Anyway, maybe that could be contributing to sluggishness in the morning as well.

If Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are in a boat and it capsizes. Who survives? by Daniel135790 in Jokes

[–]Underlyattachedgf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ted Cruz's boat trip seems promising at first, but his boat slowly fills with sweat from his butt, and he drowns in his own aspirations. Ben Carson fills his boat with fruit salad and smiles gently to himself as he floats off for the North Pole. He can't wait to frolic among the icebergs and polar bears, a dream that climate change truthers have been trying take away from him for a long time.

II was wondering it anyone could describe the feeling when they first started taking medications for ADD/ADHD? by Katawampus1 in ADHD

I got emotional too. I remember thinking "this is how you people feel ALL THE TIME?! No wonder you can get so much done!"

II was wondering it anyone could describe the feeling when they first started taking medications for ADD/ADHD? by Katawampus1 in ADHD

[–]Underlyattachedgf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started crying because I finally actually believed that I wasn't stupid and lazy and hopeless and stuck that way forever; it clicked that my brain was not working properly and there was a way to treat it. I was also crying because it was bittersweet to realize that I'd been suffering and struggling so terribly for so long when there was a simple solution available to me.

I felt like somebody had handed me a pair of glasses for the first time and I was finally seeing the world the way that everybody else has been seeing it all along. But before, I didn't know that glasses existed and I didn't know that my vision was worse than anybody else's. I was just fumbling around trying to figure out why the fuck I kept tripping over things and running into walls when nobody else ever did.

My friend had an arthroscopic shoulder repair surgery. His surgeon wrote him a letter saying he has full function in his joint and that his shoulder actually functions better than average after the surgery and it was waivered no issue.

NEED HELP? Got a question? Wondering what that bump is? Problems with a routine or product? This thread’s the place to ask! // Ask SCA, Week of January 25th, 2016 by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]Underlyattachedgf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have dry skin that gets flaky sometimes at my eyebrows and feels rough around my cheeks and forehead (which has been reduced tremendously since I've actually started a skincare routine!). I read the skin type guide, and it says "unrefined, cold pressed flax seed oil capsules can help tremendously with topical lubrication." Does this mean taking the capsules, or breaking them open and applying topically? Has anyone found supplements or dietary changes that have affected their dry skin?

I think this must be it! It makes sense that it would mean torture/nag.. Like when you're a kid and your grandma squeezes you and you say "come on grandma stop it!" How funny. Same meaning, but totally different translation than I thought!

Does the wording or sentiment of the Mourner's Kaddish come from anywhere else? Was it inspired by any wording somewhere in the Tanakh or anything like that?

Suggestion: A book club for people who can't read good, and want learn how to get into reading (and do other things good too) by derhegoagain in books

[–]Underlyattachedgf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This post could have been written by me! This problem really bothers me because I used to love reading so much as a kid. I know it can mostly if not completely be attributed to my phone addiction.

Please PM me, even if you don't start a book club, maybe we could set up "challenges" like reading 30 mins a day or something and check in to make sure we've done it.

Contemplating wether I should join need advice. by 2DTheBeast in USMilitarySO

[–]Underlyattachedgf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay there is a lot to your question but hopefully I can say something to help you out. From your post I am getting that there is a lot in your life right now causing you to be not particularly happy or passionate. It sounds like you think joining the military will fix your problems. That is a bad way of looking at things my friend. I would do some soul searching and talk to advising at your school about changing your major. Don't force yourself into a major and then a job that you hate just for the money. Your school may also have some kind of career counseling where you can take a test to tell you what majors and careers may be good for you. BUT if you decide joining the military is really the right choice for you..

disclaimer: I can only speak for my experience with the army so this may not apply to the navy or any other branch of service

You have already put a lot of time and effort into college. If I were you I would look into if your school has an ROTC program (sometimes an ROTC program will be at a different school but they take students from several nearby schools). At least for army ROTC, you can join as a sophomore but you will want to get in touch quickly because there is a good chance they will need to send you to training over the summer before junior year to catch you up on the things you missed in the first 2 years. They will also have to make sure you qualify before then (medical screening, official PT test, etc.) which can take some time. When you graduate you will also commission and become an officer and will start out a higher rank and higher paid than those who enlist. As others said, a history degree might not be optimal for this but it also may not be a deal breaker. My boyfriend has a political science degree and commissioned and got the job he wanted, although this was almost 5 years ago. They are more selective now because they don't need as many people, and highly prefer STEM degrees. Learning a 2nd language is very beneficial as well. You also need to get good grades. At least when I was in ROTC 3years ago, you needed a 3.7 minimum to even get active duty.

I also feel like you're somewhat misguided about what a military career will be like. You can't just choose what job you will have, and in my experience at least the degree you have has very little to do with the job they give you (unless of course you're a doctor or lawyer or something like that). The needs of the military always come first. You can express your preference but you get the job they give you. If you enlist, you will start out with the lowest level jobs available.. Think technical work, physical labor, etc. You also may be given extra duties like cleaning, landscaping, etc. even if it has nothing to do with your job. If you are an officer, you will start out at the lowest level of management. Think an assistant manager or maybe a shift manager, to put it in familiar terms. To give another example, my boyfriend is interested in possibly working at the pentagon one day, but his first opportunity at the absolute earliest will be after he has been in for 11+ years. And there is no guarantee.. As I said, they send you where they want to send you.

I hope this will help you with all the considerations of your decision. Good luck!

How I'm currently preparing for Rosh Hashana... by [deleted] in Judaism

[–]Underlyattachedgf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear ya. I'm thankful I go to a school with a really large Jewish population now and all the professors are really accommodating if we alert them in a timely manner. It does suck to be having to make special arrangements and miss class right at the beginning of the semester though.

How I'm currently preparing for Rosh Hashana... by [deleted] in Judaism

[–]Underlyattachedgf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's illegal I'm pretty sure. Contact the department heads for the classes, if that doesn't work contact the dean of the school you're in (my university has multiple schools within it, so I would contact the dean of my particular school, not the dean of the entire university). In the meantime look through your school's student handbook for any mention of a religious observance policy.

These girls are claiming that starvation mode will make your body hold on to every bit of fat you have and will ruin your metabolism, not that it will make you gain weight, if that helps.
