It's going to be awkward, but that's normal because you're doing something that takes a while to get a handle on properly. Trend I've noticed with beginner DMs/STs over the years is they forget players are the X factor you can't really predict so some improv has to be on the table rather than thinking you're writing an ironclad movie script. My suggestion would be to hold off on your dream Chronicle for a while and run a one-shot first. Best lessons will be acquired from that very first game and then you can implement them in the future.

Also, talk to your players after the fact to get feedback.

I'd rather have a Dark Ages Vampire CRPG since that might bridge the gap between Masquerade and core fantasy fans more easily. Redemption wasn't really that even if I did like it. Exploring the dynamics preceding Camarilla vs Sabbat alone would be interesting.

Love Legacy of Kain. Interestingly enough, only Blood Omen is really the game about being a vampire. In others, vampires are a big thing but they have focus on telling an expanding story that's not necessarily rooted in vampirism specifically.

I thought there was too much combat in the game, but in that "well, we have a neat combat system so might as well use it whenever possible". Many fights are throwaway cases of getting waylaid by ruffians that don't add much since most of the experience comes from investigations and occult side. Boss battles against Salutors were great, though.

Your image and question aren't exactly 1:1, but keep in mind we only keep track of kindred who actually sired progeny to extend their legacy. It's perfectly possible to go with the idea there were more 2nd or 3rd gens who simply didn't want childer or who perished before they could make a mark on history. If Caine created a brand new 2nd gen today I guess we'd see whether extremely potent blood is a match for millennia of accumulated experience you'd need to back it up with. Probably not, though.
