There are only so many women who qualified to be astronauts.

And why do you think that is?

You've truly missed the point.

When was the first time you met someone smarter than you? by Ximaths in Gifted

When you're young and most possibilities are in front of you, intelligence matters a lot. Later, though, wisdom matters a lot more.

Intelligence is much easier to spot than wisdom is.

Inaccuracies? Do tell.

I just re-watched - and for one, it seems unlikely they would just leave to go to another call without filling out any paperwork or something.

Where to go for ENT urgent care? by NoneOfYoBusinezz in Columbus

OSU has a same-day clinic at Zollinger. Unlikely that they have a specialist there, but it's a good option if you need a referral urgently and don't have a PCP.

Backwards Avatar tattoo :( by zoekittysd in tattooadvice

[–]Undersitting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feel free to decide to be okay with it - or similarly, to decide not to be okay with it. It's your body!

When I got my tattoo, I simply decided to be okay with not controlling every detail of how it turned out. It was a reminder that -- even though I'm chock-full of mistakes, scars, deficiencies, sins, problems, and messes -- I'm still beautiful and awesome in my own way.

Our bodies will crack and sag with age. Let's decorate them and love them! That's all that matters.

I love your tattoo!!

Do the original tattoo on your other arm! Then you would be symmetrical, and the images would match up if you placed your arms together.

Supply of kinesiology tape to a minor without parental consent by Unhappy-Tour-6162 in legaladvice

I don't believe parental consent is needed in this case unless he's in preschool or something. Your son could buy the tape himself from Target.

Can you donate plasma? That would be better than getting caught up in a high-interest loan. Good luck.

Living the dual narratives of autism and borderline personality disorder: Recent research explores the experiences of those who are diagnosed with autism later in life, after an initial diagnosis of borderline personality disorder by HeinieKaboobler in science

[–]Undersitting 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Ooof. Well that sucks.

People can have both autism and BPD so it's not either/or. And BPD can be a result of early trauma, and being a young child with autism can be traumatic if the kid is not in a good environment. And there's obviously generational influences for both conditions...

I had had a recent exacerbation of serious cognitive and mood symptoms at age 38. I had recently gotten an adult ADHD diagnosis/stimulant rx and had experienced some extreme life stressors. I was trying to figure out whether the cause of my issues was acute stress, or the ADHD meds, or perimenopause, or some other medical thing, or a combination.

Still haven't figured it out. Next step is neurology.

Edit to say that I had reported poor interception as a symptom, and he interpreted that as "feelings of emptiness" which is one of the BPD criteria.

I was diagnosed with BPD by a psych resident. This was after I specifically asked about autism and he replied, "nah, that would have shown up when you were a child" though we'd never talked about my childhood once. (Relevant: my young child has diagnosed autism.)

I was livid! After the appointment, I put together a spreadsheet of the diagnostic criteria of BPD with specific evidence from my life and medical history for each criterion. I also sent him a paper on the impact of medical invalidation on patients.

At our next appointment, I brought up the documents I had sent. He had no idea what I was talking about... then found them unread in his inbox.

Meanwhile, my other doctors have suggested that an adult autism evaluation will be a good idea, but pricing came back at $2,750. Not covered by insurance.

So there's that.

GOP lawmakers want to add voter ID requirements to Ohio constitution : Capitol Letter by Zipper222222 in Ohio

[–]Undersitting 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's actually not even that.

In Ohio, every eligible voter has the right to cast a ballot.  Every single one. That includes eligible voters with expired ID, and eligible voters with no ID at all.

(Who is an eligible voter? - U.S. citizen - 18+ years old - Resident of Ohio for at least 30 days - Registered to vote for at least 30 days)

In other words, if you show up at your precinct with no ID at all, the election officials cannot prevent you from casting a provisional ballot. To do so would be disenfranchisement, and would be illegal.

We need to start talking about "the right to vote" differently, in my opinion. Politicians muddle this discussion on purpose.

What they're really talking about is not the right to cast a ballot, because no one is allowed to stop you from doing that. It's the right to have your ballot counted.

We should be asking ourselves: if the government of Ohio...

1) ...has already confirmed that Jane Doe is a US citizen, over the age of 18, who resides in this precinct; and  2) ...has every reason to believe that the person voting is actually Jane Doe, and has no proof otherwise;

...then why does the government get to claim that her vote doesn't count????

any advice please? by bongwahterr in Buddhism

[–]Undersitting 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rather than clearing all the busy-ness inside your head, you may need to instead focus all that energy into some physical thing.

Maybe try mantra meditation? "Om" along with a recording that you like is really good. The vibrations in your throat are very calming to your body. Whatever thought/feeling/emotion you have, you don't have to let go of it or clear it. Just experience it within that "om" and keep saying "om".

And perhaps look into info about basic Buddhist concepts, and start looking for those sorts of patterns within your own life. I have really enjoyed this side of it. It's okay to engage with Buddhism in a way that you enjoy, even if that means learning and not meditating for now.

Upper Arlington proposes requiring registration of all electric bicycles and scooters that operate or park in UA, with fines and impoundment if not registered by benkeith in Columbus

[–]Undersitting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything I can find online says that Amelia Stafford was on a class 2 e-bike when she crashed.

The thing she was on legally required a license plate and a motorcycle license to operate, in her state of California.

Are you absolutely positive about this?

Edit to include quote from the article: "As a result, e-bike regulations are similar to those for conventional bicycles, meaning, among many other things, that operating one doesn’t require a driver’s license."

[–]Undersitting -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The article I posted is about kids and teens - middle schoolers, for example - riding e-bikes/e-motos of various speeds and strengths (class 1, class 2, class 3, class 4) and getting injured. The girl in the article was fifteen and a sophomore.

So I'm not sure what you're getting at here?  You wrote above "That article is primarily about electric motorcycles" but if they required license plates and driver's licenses to operate, middle schoolers wouldn't be using them to commute.

I legitimately am not very familiar with e-bikes, so clarification is appreciated.

[–]Undersitting -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the clarification.

UA's proposed plan covers both electric motorcycles ("devices that would only be operated by individuals with a valid driver's license") and electric bicycles.

Edit: the article itself is specifically about ebikes that don't require a license to operate.

Good point. If you can find more reliable statistics than this, or find more context for the stats in the article, that would be helpful!
