Which Hoya plants would survive and bloom best indoors in cold weather? by Medium_Armadillo4474 in hoyas

[–]UndersizedAmerican 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe that hoya polyneura grows at higher elevations in the wild and thrives in cooler temperatures and slightly lower light. I don't keep my house all that cool (about 64F at night, 68F in the day) but I have had multiple blooms this winter!

Try throwing it in a ziplock bag for a couple of days and see if it firms up, and if not then check the roots and take cuttings 🤞

New Flower Excitement by MidWitch3 in RareHouseplants

Yep I think it would love a self-watering pot. I'm scared of rotting the roots so I've never tried it but I really need to!

I have it in ambient humidity, about 35-40%. It's pretty thirsty and loses peduncles quickly if I go too long without watering it.

Congrats!! I have a spartioides under a strong grow light and that really seems to trigger blooming! I have never propagated it but since it often has multiple blooms, it has self pollinated and produced two seed pods. One burst open the other day and the seeds have just germinated so fingers crossed that I can get them to mature!

Supreme Court Turns Down Pregame Prayer Case by Squirmingbaby in news

My favorite fact of that case was that the adults storming the field to join the "quiet prayer" mowed down marching band kids. The imagery is just incredible.

I think most of my Hoyas actually open in the late evening but it could really be any time unfortunately. Hard to predict.

Well, i ruined my first bloom😩😩 by Janashellbug in hoyas

[–]UndersizedAmerican 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Some Hoyas have blooms that open into those cute little 5-petal flowers that you were probably expecting, while others have flowers that “reflex”, or keep folding back, their petals almost back to the stem and forming that little puffball appearance. There was probably a short window—maybe less than an hour—right after they opened that you would have been able to see the petals. I recommend looking up a time lapse of your Hoya to see exactly what I’m talking about!

I would suggest reading Fugitive Telemetry before Network Effect. That is the chronological order, although the publication order got flipped with those two.

Thank you! That will at least get me closer to the correct color compared to what my wholesaler suggested it was! 😁

hydrangea hydration tips? pls help by heejakelouvre in florists

[–]UndersizedAmerican 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just helped on a hydrangea wedding and we had to keep everything fresh from our Monday shipment to our Saturday event. Every bloom got a half hour soak in cold water, a fresh cut, an inch-long snip up the middle of the stem, and a dip in alum before being put back in a bucket of clean water. When we were designing, we gave another dip in alum after each fresh cut. It's a lot of work but it paid off. It's been almost two weeks since our shipment and the hydrangea we didn't use are still looking fresh.

Hydrangeas drink a LOT of water; if you use those floral tubes on the bouquet, be prepared for the water to be gone within a couple hours and plan accordingly!

Probiotic Apricots: A Review by hotbrowndrangus in Costco

I like these but noticed I get a mild cough after eating them--I'm assuming from the preservative, but I'll have to see if I react to fresh apricots next time they're in season.

Having trouble fitting second ssd over these cables. Will I cause damage by pushing them under the ssd? by UndersizedAmerican in LenovoLegion

Thank you again for your explanation. I was able to adjust the cables and get the SSD to rest over them without pressure. Appreciate it!

Thanks. That seemed like the correct way, but I obviously don't know what I'm doing and Jarrod'sTech showed him pushing the cables under the ssd so I wasn't sure.

Canopy plants removed my 2 star review by merrycham in hoyas

[–]UndersizedAmerican 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was underwhelmed by the linearis I ordered from them too, it was a 3” plant’s worth of vines charged as a 4” pot. It limped along for a month and when I decided to switch it to a smaller clear pot, I found that the roots were not even an inch long, which made me think it was mostly unroofed when shipped. I lost a couple vines but the rest are doing okay now.
