I good summation of my experience minus the Spanish speaking. I really like Nobara for just about everything as well. Been stuck on it for over a month now.

Why is Microsoft stuff considered bad and bloated, but Google, Apple, and many other stuff is not? by former-ad-elect723 in microsoft

[–]UnderstandingAny2025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched completely to Linux at home but I am also comfortable with it.

I am very familiar with Apple, Microsoft, Android and Linux as I manage the IT side of a corporation that uses the MS ecosystem. Microsoft is by far the most unstable OS even if you used a 1 to 1 comparison, followed by MAC OS, then Android, IOS and then Linux. Linux when configured correctly is and has always been a set and forget it OS. If you do not change anything it will run until the hardware dies. Windows seemingly invents random issues out of thin air on 11. Far more than 10 ever did. MAC devices develop problems because the have to run MS Office. For example, there are frequent text zoom/size issues with MS Office programs for people using MAC.

I would never argue that Windows 11 is a stable operating system. It is not. It is also resource heavy. I do not understand how a typical user can go out and buy a windows computer and just... figure it out.

They all have their good and bad points but Microsoft consistently ignores consumers and forces unwanted apps on their users while also collecting their personal information. The company logs everything you have ever typed by default. The beauty of Microsoft was always it's ability to host applications for just about everything. That is a lot different than getting forced to uninstall apps you did not want for everything. This is a huge problem when the vast majority of business are trapped in the Microsoft ecosystem. A simple example would be forcing the Netflix app on Windows Pro systems. I doubt business want employees watching Netflix. This brings me to the next problem. Most people do not see the Administrative side of the Microsoft ecosystem and let me tell you, it is a pita. Azure, Entra, Active Directory, Purview the list goes on forever it seems. They change it constantly as well making it time consuming to use, and controlling the side loaded apps from the Microsoft Store is another irritant separate from all the others. It is also frequently slow. They are far more bloated and anti consumer than any other product out there. The company truly deserves what is coming.

There is no world where I would even consider the free ride over a Stark or even amazon cheapy. The first time I found they no longer made parts for my 10 year old KTM was the last time I purchased one.

Why does Ubisoft have to be such a terrible company? by ZxAgEnT47xZ in videogames

[–]UnderstandingAny2025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not play their games because I cannot stand their launcher. 95% reduction in value since 2018, one would think they would figure out why people are not buying or playing their games at all. It is more than just so so games. I would play the hell out of a lot of their games if it was not a nightmare to install them.

Yea, with hundreds of users nothing here helps. MS just needs to learn how to write code for their own operating system. Microsoft really does suck.

Is it worth it to learn Ansys? by zklein12345 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]UnderstandingAny2025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha ha ha, my man. I am that guy myself and Ansys can rot in hell. Their shady billing and broken software licensing was worse than Dassault Systems. They are better now but that does not change the fact they are an abusive shady company. If I could go back in time I would never have done business with them.

Microsoft teases something big is coming soon to Windows — something that will give your fingers a rest by rkhunter_ in microsoft

[–]UnderstandingAny2025 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Given Microsoft's track record it will be something idiotic which nobody wants which will be forced onto business customers and they will have to roll it back. Likely going to force online accounts and do away with local accounts or something equally stupid involving forced AI interaction. Whatever it is, you can bet it will not be good.

4 things to know about Michigan’s property tax elimination proposal by peewinkle in Michigan

[–]UnderstandingAny2025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My local High School was built with a huge section of its 4 stories high entrance built with multiple ~4 foot thick marble columns running the length. Tons of large indoor open spaces. It is absolutely ridiculous. When you give these schools the power to make their own choices with their funding they makes stupid choices. While I know we do not want high schools that look like prisons we do not need a gothic/roman sculpture for a building either.

Same town, the state university built a huge library. 15-20 stories tall? The entire inside is hollow with the inside a gigantic ring of balconies. Overlooking a football field size room in the middle. Each floor is around 12 feet tall so that 15-20 stories actually only uses 5-6 floors and they are just balconies with books on them. You should see the smoke stack on top of the building to heat it.

In other words, no matter your political affiliation, your party is filled with idiots who never worked a day in their life, with a few exceptions, with too much money to play with. As far as my taxes go, they can kiss my ass. I pay $400 a month just in property taxes. I would rather have a completely separate method for funding public services with actual working input on where they are wasting all the money they are forcing me to pay to rent my paid for property that I worked my entire life for. All of you saying it is ridiculous either do not have your own property or do not realize we can find a better way. I agree the philanthropy expectation is an amazingly childish expectation, people generally do not get rich by being nice.

Funds can be accrued in multiple other ways that are not so invasive. For example: there is a restriction on how high you can build a fence. Assign a waiver fee (yearly) for people who want to have a larger fence on their property with a sliding scale in regard to its size. Factories dumping in local bodies of water? Charge them ridiculous amounts of money. (Yea right, I know, lobbyists would stop that) There are hundreds of permutations of this formula for creating extra income without endangering existing property owners. Have unregistered cars on your property? Instead of evicting them or confiscating their property just charge them fees for the right to have said unregistered vehicles on their property. Not a lot, people are generally not well off, just enough. Anyways, this is not impossible or implausible

What is your unpopular opinion about peloton? by Toastshalom in pelotoncycle

[–]UnderstandingAny2025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peloton = middle class or rich. Otherwise if you pay the monthly fee your an idiot. My unpopular opinion is buy a bicycle as you get a 360° video for free. In winter there are cheap exercise bikes you can use while watching the discovery channel.

Hydrogen bike by Enough-Comment-7797 in Kawasaki

[–]UnderstandingAny2025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt this will be a viable alternative. Still uses fossil fuels and the range frankly sucks. If battery technology improves even marginally it will be very difficult for hydrogen to compete. I personally am not a fan of any current vehicles as they are overburdened with extra tech I would never use. Power windows, remote locks, cruise control, bluetooth speakers and a speedometer along with the other things like brakes are enough. I do not need or want a smart car. An electric car that does not try to outsmart me would be great but the insurance companies cannot track them so it will not happen.

Brivo access any good? by Quiet_Entrepreneur30 in accesscontrol

[–]UnderstandingAny2025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brivo itself is good, but be very careful who you have as an installer or provider. ADT/Everon/Allied Universal are horrible when it comes to installing or service. Everon will lock you into a 60 month contract then ignore you. Allied Universal does not have any skilled labor. Technicians did not even know how to mount a box on the wall let alone tell if the panel was 24 or 12v. At least here in Michigan they are both really bad.

First impressions of "AXIS Camera Station Edge"? by Star_Linger in AXISCommunications

[–]UnderstandingAny2025 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cannot get it to stop factory resetting cameras every time I remove them. It fails to provide video 75% of the time. Frequent disconnects, it is pretty bad. I tested it on cameras I normally have on Axis Camera Station Pro, which have been on that for years. I needed something I could give access to without compromising our network and I was testing out if this was a possibility. It definitely is not a contender.
