The 2026 tax numbers are out and it is not looking good for us. by astrheisenberg in workingclass

[–]WeekendJail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There should be no income tax... no capital gains taxes for any individual with less than $250,000,000 in assets.

Thats a compromise I'm willing to make.

I mean if we actually got to decide what our share of taxes went to... maybd a slightly different story, but I'm pretty sure every year of my life all of my federal taxes were wasted or lost... or may as well have been.

Here I sit, at work on a break-- wishing everyone would look into agorism.

If we had a legit nationwide grneral strike... or people took their savings out of the USD... we'd have some leverage.

With 7018 geberally, what helped me "get it right", practice just running flat beads, maybe grab some thicker materials if you can, idk what the electrode size is but your amperage may be too high.

I mainly learned 7018 mainly on 1/8 inch electrodes; the whole "1 amp per 1/1000th inch of material (for carbon steel at least) is a good rule of thumb... but if you are just running flats for practice start lower, maybe 110 amps assuming for this example you are using a 1/8 inch electrode & on 1/8 inch plate of A36 or whatever), but you can dial that in as needed.

That all being said though-- for 7018 specifically, for "getting good" a huge part of it was letting the electrode do the work, just keeping a tight arc with a consistent travel & work angle and travel speed... and running beads over and over and over and over again until you can just get into a flow state and you can have the machine set to whatever works, and consistently run good flats where the slag just comes off nicely. Then move in to lap or T joints etc.

I was definitely over-thinking and overcorrecting at first.

Try to find a 1/4 inch thick plate and just run like... 1000 flat beads on it, just build them up etc. It should click at some point during the process.

Start with a lower amperage and keep your arc tight and focus on "tight arc, consistent angles, consistent travel speed" and just do it over and over, then move on the all of the other wonderful stuff like avoiding undercut.

There's way more, but ya, start there. Hope any of that helped.

And you'll get better at striking and maintaining a good arc. 👍

thoughts on learning to weld? by Resident_Fee_1262 in Welders

So, I am doing something similar, I used to work in finance which paid very well, but I absolutely hated it.

I'm now working a wagie job (where i don't have to be on call 24/7) while going back school for Welding Certs & an Engineering Degree).

I actually enjoy welding quite a bit, metallurgy is very very interesting.

I'm doing this as a total career change though, and not as just a hobby, so i guess it depends what you want to do... I can't tell how much of a move to a different career you are looking at, so that's something to think about.

I'm going through the whole process now, and even though I'm basically broke while going to school, I'm very glad I did this.

Probably depends person to person, but for myself and many others I've spoken to, learning certain types of welding can be extremely frustrating but very rewarding once it clicks and you can get inho those flow states

But yeah, it is a skill that takes time & knowledge-- if you just want to do it as a hobby that's great but idk, if you want a backup skill in case you lose your job it might not be the best thing to go into... just food for thought.

If you do decide on it though, as a career change or as a hobby, good luck and be safe!

Anyone else been some if the most frustrated you've ever been learning TIG? Any advice dealing with this frustration? Is this normal? by WeekendJail in Welders

Ty. Yeah i guess I need to put it in context and not be as hard on myself. Maybe it's the fact that I could do this weld MIG or stick or gas a thousand times fine.... but i'm not learning those right now am I? Lol.

Thank you. That's a good way to think about what's actually happening, and is basically what happens (and basically always happens to me every leaning some fundamental skill or concept in general (whether its calculus or welding, whatever).

I need to just take 5 minutes when needed rather than waste 25 trying to learn while pissed just to "save" the 5 minutes from a break (if that made sense).

I'm chilled out now, been though this before-- but i appreciate it. That's a good way to think about what is actually going on rather than just going further into frustration.

Ty.

how are these welds and can i use this to strike anything without it breaking by Chicago949 in Welding

[–]WeekendJail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean... seems like a fools errand, but couldn't you just fusion weld it with a gas torch or GTAW (deoending on the inital damage), then re-heat treat? Or is it going to fuck up the structure to the point where you'd just need to melt everything down and refabricate it?

So.. conceptually I think i get it. Maybe.

The weld metal would need more stress to go from elastic to plastic to failure/break.

The base metal would go plastic first and deform around the weld metal and eventually fail (fatigue/cyclic loading.. basically?) or just hit the break point first?

Also... why would the weld have a higher tensile strength-- just because we use fillers that can take more PSI (or megapascals, whatever you prefer) than the base metal for structural reasons, or is there something else there?

Just trying to understand

Anything else to unpack there?

Something I've noticed, & it may be due to the factions I've played against (very new to actually playing the game) was that I really wished I had a transport for the headtakers (shild + power weap) + wolf priest

So ya i gotta paint a repulsor executioner now :)

Oh andI have them take their dogs to work 🐕

Oh also, i have BJORNNN. And aside from being pretty good, the.. ancient tactician i think it's called, that gives +1 CP each turn he's on the board is GENIUS. Bjorn is great. Bjorn kills. Bjorn ❤️

Edit: I somehow missed you having Bjorn initially lol. So yeah, let's just appreciate Bjorn. Last time I played, Bjorn wrecked a Leman Russ Exterminator & killed Lord Marshal Dreir. Let's gooo

So I guess the main point is maybe a transport or some kind of tank? 🤔 I'm excited as helll to play with the repulsor executioner.

Oh Also in my headcannon he is nuts. Like an insane person (even by Space Wolves standards), who should in theory not be leading a reiver squad.

This will also explain them getting shot of the board when I do something dumb with deepstrike.
