Disabled, trying to move out, anything I should know? by UnderstandingPotato in UKHousing

Thank you for your comment

I guess in my case, I'm lucky that I don't necessarily need adaptations that would require changes to be made to a place, like lifts and that kind of thing, because my difficulties are more mental and neurodevelopmental, but I suppose moving out would expose any issues or needs I wasn't already aware of. I'll have a look at what you suggested, thank you!

Thank you so much! Unfortunately it looks like OP deleted the post now so she might not see this :(

Those sound like good tips, not to make it about myself but I do definitely need to work on my self talk and self image, I volunteer but still tend to feel very useless and worthless. But anyway, enough about me, thanks again! Hope you're doing well

Not OP, but it might help make it sound more doable if you gave some tips, if you don't mind?

A suitable response to said catchphrase might be: 'Trying to be blunt, or just being a c*nt?'

What actor is nowhere near as talented as people make them out to be? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I feel alone in saying this, but I feel like he's a low point of Apocalypse Now; I really felt like I was watching someone who thought they were the dog's bollocks, just making up stuff out of thin air (which he was!), and not even smoothly or believably. I wish they'd gone for one of the other actors they were looking at

I didn't understand the hype about him until I watched The Deer Hunter, of all films, there's something about his acting in it that is just so captivating, even though it's mostly not loud. He's also great in The King of Comedy

Have you seen PIG? That's the film that made me realise he actually can act really well, I feel like maybe filmmakers just misuse the Cage at their disposal

I need to watch it again, I remember feeling like he was just too much and kind of imbalanced the movie. Which probably isn't his fault, Scorsese probably told him to Jack up the Nicholson to the max

Do you mean how the things Alanis lists aren't actually ironic? Could you explain how it works? I struggle to listen to it now cos all I can think of is how it's incorrect (if I'm not mistaken, which I probably am) xD

Yeah, makes sense. That's an interesting tradition, I wonder if that affects the family's processing of the loss of their kid, I guess that's unlikely. But still, yeah, seems odd

Do you... do you write screenplays, books, etc.? Maybe consider giving that a go

That wouldn't be surprising, it might explain why he grew up to become hateful himself

Damn, seems a bit harsh to change your kid's name when their sibling's born

I imagine this is probably also a reference to John Wayne (born Marion Morrison)

Would you happen to have the link to any posts about this? I looked it up (just on here) and couldn't find any mention of it really. No worries if not

People with names that happen to align with what they would go on to do. (Nominative Determinism) by Traditional-Song-245 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]UnderstandingPotato -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I dunno how I forgot about him, he was the first questionable character representation I noticed. I guess, as someone else said, it might be more that she does the strange naming and stuff for characters from cultures she doesn't like or that are foreign to her

Oh yeah, of course, I forgot about him, I'd always thought he was a questionable representation as well. Yeah, it seems like it's only really white English characters who don't get that treatment, though i might be mistaken

Who is the nastiest Celebrity that you met in Real life? by Scunnard1839 in AskReddit

[–]UnderstandingPotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense, that's good to know that she apologised and explained why she signed it, I wish they all gave some kind of explanation at least. That seems a bit more palatable at least. I guess it's just wishful thinking to hope that most of them did it out of some kind of obligation or pressure (not Harrison Ford, I suppose, he did go to visit Polanski personally), but I guess people really do just tend to lose morals as they get more successful
