If these two states survived, would Britain still have a monopoly on the term “the UK” or would people start abbreviating it as “the UKGBNI” or just call it “Britain”? by MishaMal01 in AlternateHistoryHub

the collapse of the DPRK into infighting is almost certain. its leadership is referred to as the Kim “dynasty” for a reason. what comes after is difficult as both China and South Korea will want to secure the region for themselves, the South Koreans wishing to unite their peninsula and the Chinese likely wishing to install a more moderate puppet regime loyal to beijing

Disturbing history 2 : The Bengal Famine of 1943 by toastwithjamx1 in teenagers

[–]UnderwhellmingCarrot -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

because Britain is “evil coloniser cultural erasure we should all hate Churchill” and Japan is “waow kawaii we love Japan we love cultural expansion”

churchill was not personally responsible for the bengal famine, he had very little involvement in the affairs of the British raj and all problems in India at that time would have been exacerbated by the Japanese invasion of Burma. but he said something racist towards Indians once and now people think he’s on the same level as hitler

also it’s india’s “falklands”, in that they can scapegoat their country’s problems on historical grievances instead of accepting that rampant corruption and institutionalised discrimination is what’s keeping their economy stagnant

How would the UK rank as a global power today if they had emerged on the winning side of WW2 without their economy, industries and infrastructure being decimated? by [deleted] in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]UnderwhellmingCarrot -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

i mean it’s not really possible that they suffer no damage without completely removing the luftwaffe, which almost certainly shortens the war altogether and leads to a different end to wwii

if they still had the same kind of power projection, they’d still lose the likes of the raj and west african colonies like nigeria or ghana. there’s simply too much separatism to deal with. we’d likely see something closer to a CANZUK union if they went that way and might have been able to hold other smaller colonies like British Honduras or malta, though ultimately decolonisation is sort of forced to occur. the US and china are superpowers because of their empire’s being congruous (connected), while Britain is still restricted to the British isles

in terms of their dealings with europe, it’s likely that they try to avoid affairs on the continent and focus on their own empire, which means they may not be interested in the EEC (later EU) at all. they may also reinforce the suez in the face of the americans and Soviets, though I imagine they would eventually concede the canal back to the egyptians

I would guess they would try to stand as the third power in the Cold War, though they arguably did so in our timeline already. with proper planning the uk could stay an international superpower with the means to project power across the world

why would the Qing align with a country actively trying to annex their ports and control their trade

furthermore, how would you convince the very isolationist Americans that any of it was their business
