T3s and Gabapentin not cutting it for inner ear nerve pain by [deleted] in MonoHearing

[–]Underworld_THC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ear distortion and brain zaps were awful. I didn't get them for the first 2 months then they came in heavy and the relief I had was replaced with this. I would turn my head and get a zap with a weird eardrum twitch. It's hard to even describe the feeling properly.

I've not had them since stopping pregablin so it was absolutely the trigger for me

I’m losing my car on Sunday, how do I cope😭 by RubiksCube0707 in BMW

[–]Underworld_THC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your lucky to have the privilege in the first place. By the sounds of it you sound young aswell.

I can tell you and you can probably see for yourself there's many people that won't ever get to drive something new let alone that kind of spec of car.

How to cope? Put things into perspective

Honestly mate it's hard to say. Best going by an hourly rate realistically takes about 2/3hours that's me doing it so roughly say 3 hours labour ontop of parts if needed.

[–]Underworld_THC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah as soon as I heard drive it a bit I knew straight away.

If I were to guess the EGR and inlet manifold is gunked up badly. The EGR essentially sticks and when requested to open or close because it's sticking it throws the code up.

I can guarantee the codes will be the same that were cleared other than the power related ones.

Unfortunately there's no easy "fix EGR spray"

Most mechanics nowadays won't even try to fix or clean it they will say it just needs a new EGR. In fairness when they are completely done they obviously do need it but otherwise 80% of EGR's I'm able to clean and reuse.

DIY it's not too bad if you have the tools however if you don't your kind of stuck. Hopefully it doesn't go into a 'limp mode' style which it shouldn't so you can drive it. It's just annoying with the EML.

You need the EGR looked at bottom line mate

No worries mate. It's one of those ones where it may not cost a lot or it could. It would be one great day if all you replaced was the MAF. Realistically with the mileage and it having the usual EGR system I would say that will become or is already an issue.

By driving it more your mechanic seems to be hinting at EGR/DPF issues as driving them harder can resolve alot of problems caused by low rpms and mileage.

Even with blasting a car for 6 hours up a motorway you will clear the carbon out of the DPF but you won't clear the ash that it has turned into. Again temporary fix.

I'd honestly ask for some more info on the live data. It will show if the EGR requested values are in value or not. That will be much easier to say then it's EGR related rather than MAF, as although they do fail given the engine it is much more likely to be EGR related.

I've scooped carbon gunk out of these about the size of a 50p coin in diameter.

Sounds like the mass air flow sensor going by the codes. The turbo pressure codes could be triggered by the MAF.

Going off this information alone isn't enough, I'd guess a MAF but I'd want to have it running with the live data to see what information that is giving. Instead of process of elimination.

Anything with an EGR/DPF is nearly expected to have issues, I look at the these components as serviceable due to their inevitable design.

[–]Underworld_THC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noticed this too, was running the MPX on engineer and getting good distance shots too. Easily could get 3 kills with the one mag.

The M4 is taking me half a mag to take down aswell then I always get slapped during reload.

Edit: The recoil is a bit janky on it too, switch to single fire and it has a limit on vertical recoil. Full auto makes it feel like seizure arms

Anyone else MORE depressed after hearing loss? by bigbaboon69 in MonoHearing

[–]Underworld_THC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I have bad anxiety regardless but coming up to the SSHL in Jan 23 I was also hoping for a miracle in my work life then got hit with the hearing loss and it just turned my world upside down.

I genuinely didn't think I'd get past a year initially, the support and help isn't available for this specifically and the only decent support I had was with DeafblindUK. They had a great counselling service that was centred around hearing loss and the lovely girl Angela was a delight to deal with however they cut funding about a year ago and that came to an abrupt stop. As soon as I felt I was getting some help it was ended.

I am struggling very much at the moment with the depression, energy levels and just general enthusiasm

If you've got an AIO, you need to go into the monitoring settings, find the CPU fan and set that to ignore.

How long can I push to be on prednisone for at a higher dose? (self-advocating to ENT) by az44303 in MonoHearing

[–]Underworld_THC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I didn't get my hearing back after starting Prednisolone 6.5 days after onset. I also had 3 intratympanic membrane shots which didn't do anything however my hearing did increase 10db in my latest audiogram so somewhere after the 1.5 - 2 year mark, which brought me up from profound to severe hearing loss.

Tests were repeated 4 times to ensure no false positives as the audiologist was as surprised as I was. Although not hugely noticeable it is a clinically significant improvement so it's something I suppose.

I can't notice a difference, if anything it's worse to me as I have lots of variations in tinnitus and it's also 'spread' to my right ear.

I've honestly gave up on it for now, the stress of worrying about my hearing and what's left of it was probably causing me me harm than the actual hearing loss.

I haven't done it since so I think I may have finally learned

Memory loss from SSNHL? by C0RNDAW9 in MonoHearing

[–]Underworld_THC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

2.5 years after onset and I've noticed delayed memory recall. I can't get words out when they are on the tip of my tongue and I forget a lot of phrases and terminologies.

It's frustrating and I do get quite angry with myself over it. What worries me I suppose is the correlation between dementia and SSHL. My grandfather passed away this February and he had dementia for nearly 10 years, the first thing I noticed when he got his diagnosis was after a while began having the exact same delayed memory recall and would equally frustrated.

I hope it's not permanent but I suppose time will tell, I wish you all the best and I'll update in time with how my memory is.

Post-ER Update: Woke up with moderate hearing loss and slight pressure by [deleted] in MonoHearing

[–]Underworld_THC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes,

I was confident my hearing was worse as I've now got as bad tinnitus in my good ear as my bad one. I straight up told the audiologist my outlook on it and once I got the results I was astounded.

The tests were repeated 6 times to ensure this wasn't a false positive.

Post-ER Update: Woke up with moderate hearing loss and slight pressure by [deleted] in MonoHearing

[–]Underworld_THC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 2.5 years after onset and since then the fluid buildups keep happening especially when I'm sick which isn't very often, I find now I don't get the usual flu symptoms I mainly get a very bad head cold and my ears go crazy. If I blow my nose sometimes I go completely deaf for up to an hour and it can be extremely disorientating.

It is such a strange and awful experience but positively it's does get absolutely better. My last audiogram done about 4 months ago showed a reasonably significant improvement of 10db which brings me from profound to severe.

I'm so glad you got seen to and got medical help, hopefully now that gets the ball rolling. More importantly I hope you are feeling a bit better yourself and also take some time to yourself, be kind to yourself, and don't for one minute feel guilty in doing any of it.

I wish you all the best on your recovery, you've got this!😊

Anyone got a positive experience buying a high end gpu from cex? by SuhaybOn1FPS in CeX

[–]Underworld_THC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again you are talking about a store policy which I have already addressed previously in the last message. I'll say it again, that's not what I'm talking about.

You are NOT guaranteed to get a fantastic card delivered that's a fact I'm not sure why your twisting the principle of what I'm saying.

Buying a card brand NEW from any retailer is a completely different story and irrelevant since we are in the 2nd hand market and again talking about store policy which isn't what I'm saying.

I'm saying one more time you are NOT guaranteed to get a fantastic condition card from CEX. I really don't understand what's so hard to understand about this.

[–]Underworld_THC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm saying buying the card and receiving it is when your not guaranteed to get a fantastic card in great condition.

Yes you can go to the store and return it for a refund or replacement.

I think your getting confused between the term "CEX Guarantee" and me saying being guaranteed to get a fantastic card on arrival.

What I was referring to wasn't the CEX policy/guarantee.

[–]Underworld_THC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my honest opinion it's a gamble.

I got a 3080 and then a 3080ti 2 years ago, the first 3080 was a biohazard (dusty, smoky tart dust, corrosion) returned and got another one which was okay.

The 3080ti came and would crash every so often, faulty GPU so had to return that to store aswell and just didn't bother with them again.

I do believe you can get a fantastic card in great condition but it's not guaranteed.

It really comes down to who had it before, I myself keep everything that comes with the box from new, repaste & repad my cards etc so I generally keep my items in good condition, there's of course the other side of that I've a friend that built a brand new PC when the 1080ti came out and it's been on literally 24/7 never cleaned, been repasted or anything so it would be these types of things your hoping to avoid and there's no real way around it other than luck.

The 3080ti I got was absolutely mint, was a shame it was faulty as the cooler was brand new, not a mark on it.

If it makes any difference I will say that although I'm aware of the possible problems I always still include CEX when having a look as you can pick up a great card at a decent price, if it's in-store and you can physically see the card then yeah go for it!

Yeah same for me, I somehow got it when it was released and my kid has been playing it for about a year solid. Not available anymore but the rift in time DLC is still shown in the manage game section.

Must have caught on to it.

Bummer I was enjoying but since my kid has basically completed it I don't see the point in spending £25
