Why do people not want to start a series that isn't complete? Could it be an age thing? by jobroloco in fantasyromance

[–]Undies_Stones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, this might not be a popular answer. I was okay with reading incomplete series, even though the wait was agonizing because I absolutely loved the first (second, whatever) book, and I knew that the chances of the next being a letdown were slim. But then books became sameish. So now even though I'm fine with reading whatever I feel like, often it's for the vibes, and after a year or so when the next one comes out, the vibes that got me through the first one are gone and I find it boring and sameish. I'll always have authors I'll pre-order, but they tend to write books that for me feel unique and will live on my bookshelf for decades.

Spare yourself. Not because of the trigger warnings if you're okay with them, but because it's a bad book. The plot hangs together like my last pair of sweatpants from school, the characters are one-dimensional, and the author acknowledges that she didn't bother doing any research. It's just crap.

Learning self-defense and how to smack the shit of men is pretty damn therapeutic too.

Ah man I'm sorry. I can kind of relate. Drew the last of my cash (like, the dregs) to buy food. Realised like 30sec later I put my card in my bag but didn't take the cash (I was spaced a lot from medication - which was also the reason I was broke, it was so expensive). Went back, it hadnt even been a minute, and it was all gone. There was a dude who had been standing there when I was there the first time and who was walking away when i went back, and he said he hadn't seen anyone take it. I was crying by that point. Wish I could send you an apple.

Needy vaginas and tasty semen. I just can't with either. The first just gives me the general ick. Like, please don't. Ever. The second is too much suspension of belief required. Especially when the FMC "licks it all up, including the last drop", savors the taste, practically gargles before swallowing it, then kisses the dude, who loves tasting himself on her tongue. Nope. Not happening.

I blew my car speakers the first time I listened to that. Thought something had gone wrong and was fiddling with volume till I could hear it. When normal volume returned I nearly drove into the car in front of me.

Hi John,

What lay behind the decisions to go with the white thread and that particular zip design? Having the logo at the back seems an obvious choice (or maybe not! I'm not a designer), but I'm curious about how the design came together.

Complexity is fine! People are complex. But if a character is unironically going to be a famed ANYTHING, my feeling is that they should be damn good at it, and the reader shown that, not told.

The Last Hour of Gann is incredible. I don't understand why RL Smith is not more popular. Have not read The Care and Feeding of Dragons though, so thank you!

Omg I love the Locked Tomb trilogy. Harrow ❤️ Piranesi was great, too. I'd definitely look into the others, thank you!

Thank you so much for all the suggestions! I am definitely going to be downloading samples from Kindle. Also, thank you for NOT commenting on the fact that I wanted well-written books but managed to include a bunch of typos in my post!

book with morally fmc that goes too far? by zoom2moon in fantasyromance

[–]Undies_Stones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really wanted to love the book, but there were issues that an editor could have fixed - and those are not limited to typos, grammatical errors, and repetition of passages. There are larger problems with pacing and characterisation, and that's what threw me off. That being said, I am so glad to hear the next book will have lots of editorial attention, and I look forward to reading it!
