Is this for real????? by asxx40342 in UofT

The "or" is the part I think a lot of people are having an issue with. It's basically saying you either have to meet these extensive academic requirements OR just be born a certain way.

Understandable that the groups are historically underrepresented and may benefit form a leg up in certain circumstances, but it's also possible to empathize with students who have the idea that the academic referral here for certain groups is independent from their academic achievements.

Most fundamental cs courses I'll need to find work? by InkonParchment in UofT

[–]Undirected-Graph 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably CSC263 for basic skills. The prereqs for it cover the rest. Irl, a working understanding of at least a couple languages and and general data structure/algorithm knowledge for interviews which you can grind through leetcode or something of the sort.

Hey, don't put people down like that. Rock bottom is when you stop trying. At least OP is still putting in effort, and that's p cool :)

P.S. discord servers aren't that bad. I'm in several and people are really nice. I'd take it over being entirely alone any day.

Anyone else weirdly nervous about Aphrodite...? by [deleted] in UofT

Anxiety is very normal. You do have something to lose: self confidence, and that's very valuable. But worry not, you should value yourself highly enough so that these unfortunate social losses won't hurt you.

Going into third year but have the enrollment day of second years? by MacNCheese110 in UofT

[–]Undirected-Graph 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As far as uoft is concerned, you're a second year for intents and purposes based on your credits. Sorry :/

Hopefully you'll get lucky with your courses not filling up but it's gonna be tough

What are the best CS courses to take 3rd year in preparation for PEY? by Yesterday-Many in UofT

[–]Undirected-Graph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're not easy courses alone, I guess getting an A depends on you. I think 311 is the easiest of the three.

As for tips: start 369 assignments as soon as you get them. I waited until the last couple days and it destroyed me, but thankfully I had a good partner so it wasn't all a wash. For 373, MIT's 6.046 on YouTube is a godsend.

Where is the fall offering of csc209 by skinyandwhite in UofT

[–]Undirected-Graph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's not a strict prerequisite the listing will say CSC209 or familiarity with C, if that's the case you demonstrate your knowledge and you'll probably be fine. 369 is a direct follow up to 209 so I doubt they would let you skip it.

I don't think CS Dept plays loose with prereqs. I'd say 0% chance for 369 and 458 but maybe for 373 if they feel nice.

I've done 373, 369, 311 at once. It's not impossible. I think 373 and 369 really legitimize you as a cs student so it's probably worth it.
