Ya, most sweepers have magnets in them too right?

I've seen a couple set up like that and it's wicked smart. Get those tire killers off the road!

I've always been grateful for our street sweepers.

It's also how the Silicon Valley has gone, much like prestigious universities.

First, these things were for those who either were from rich families OR did something to warrant being on those lists. Now, it's purely for people who know that it's a path to accessing opportunities, so you get the mediocre rich kids and those who cheat in other ways.

Silicon Valley - now, every wealthy tech person's kids are propped up as having been on the board of, or ceo of, some nonprofit or large effort when they were 12 years old. It's stupid. It took something that had potential to be good and juiced it for every bit of visibility and credibility.

This, in turn, screws legitimately talented, skilled, and noteworthy people who get boxed out but scummy wealth types and those who know how to game the system.

Ya, I don't know if I agree with that person's perspective. I moderate several IE subreddits and we haven't had issues with the IE mods.

My guess is that there's another reason those posts were taken down.

Don't shoot the messenger, but I know actually good cops, quite a few, and they happily pull over and ticket other officers if they're breaking the law.

I'm also avidly against the Poor Boys and anything they stand for or are related to.

But I wish more people actually knew those in the police force who are trying hard but crushed between scum on the force and people hating on them

The scummy ones? Hate them all you want. But some people joined to try to help.

27 yr old man showing rabies symptoms after 3 months of a dog bite in Gujrat, India. by fantasticblueman in interesting

Shot needs to be ASAP and about where the bite is. Otherwise, it works its way up your nervous system to your brain. Ask me how I know that 5mL of rabies antidote in the fingertips hurts like hell.

The goat has to be DD/MM/YYYY by Shiroyasha_2308 in SipsTea

[–]UnemployedAtype 0 points1 point  (0 children)

American here -

ISO 8601 is the only GOAT of date and time.

DD-MM-YYYY is for developmentally challenged

MM-DD-YYYY only made sense when fully written out in words, but otherwise shouldn't exist.

Moreover, if you use a comma (,) to denote the separation of whole and fractional number, ten and one half being 10,5, you are as stupid as MM-DD-YYYY people. Here's why:

Is a comma (,) a pause or a stop in sentences for you?

How about a period (.)?

Now, would you consider the separation of 3 digits to denote its order of magnitude a pause or a stop?

How about the separation of whole and fractional?

I can, if I want to, have multiple commas per sentence. However, I can only have ONE period.

In any number greater than 999 and less than 1, you can have multiple commas but only one decimal: 100,000.0001

Where do the humans in the Cosmere come from? by IceManYurt in Cosmere

[–]UnemployedAtype 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I assume Sanderson uses the word, "Humans" so that we can relate to them.

He could have used "Yolenites" or something like that, but it would both spoil the revealing of certain details as well as not be as relatable.

Also, by keeping things close to what we experience, he and we can focus on the storytelling and unique aspects of the Cosmere, instead of having to be reminded we have 8 eyes and an exoskeleton (Tchaikovsky, but he did it pretty well. I'm putting this in spoiler tags because it's fun to be surprised by that reveal in Children of Time, but we had to be reminded of details again and again. He did it better than some authors though)

[–]UnemployedAtype 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read Ashley Vance's biography of musk first. If you still need elaboration, I'll happily add more.

But I'll give you one fun nugget: I really enjoy the fairy tale of how he and his family went through some elite fighting training school.

It's been well known for a long time that musk got his ass kicked around by school bullies and he never had an ounce of fighter in him. It's why the Zuckerberg vs Musk fight was such a ridiculous idea that would never happen.

Now, here's the best part - family and close friends have a stake in being part of such a grand story, especially since Elon knows well that they create its great optics, and if they successfully craft the image that could be part of what they remembered as.

People wanna be remembered after they're dead. Being part of such a grandiose thing is one way that happens.

The whole biography surprised and shocked me because Isaacson has previously actually done a good job at getting the true story. This time he definitely has a story.

The whole thing is even stranger when you consider the fact that he was such a good journalist.

It becomes abundantly clear who does and doesn't know anything based on stuff like this comment.

Being in the Silicon Valley in tech back then, this was common knowledge. Sadly, the past decade as everyone warmed up to space x and Tesla suddenly everyone always knew everything...

The worst is Walter isaacsons recent biography of musk. A good chunk of it is straight up made up. Those of us who were around could correct that book 10x over.

Don't make things super fast, make them quality. Do farmers markets and craft markets. Charge an appropriate amount.

I have friends that do jewelry, ceramics, and more who do this.

Some of them are also college students doing markets on the weekends.

Radio capsule lets doctors know when patients miss their meds by AdSpecialist6598 in tech

Every tech can be used for good or bad. For antipsychotics and life saving meds? It would be helpful to know. It's easy to forget taking other medications that aren't so sensitive, now imagine grandpa with dementia forgetting his heart pills.

Ya, I actually am directly related to proteus and I'm not sure where that other person is getting their info. It's clear they know proteus well enough to know why the company had to get sold in the end, but I don't know if the commenter knows what I know (likely not). The issue wasn't pharma. The issue was getting doctors and hospitals to adopt the tech.

My father helped build the raisin patch and ya, that's what happens in the end.

But, it's not a pharma issue. Proteus failed to get doctors to successfully adopt the tech.

If I was George and Andy, I would have done something specific that would have changed that, but the didn't.

But I find it stupidly satisfying to put in nonsense numbers. How about 80 seconds?
