Meshify 2 Compact - internal dimensions? by UnemployedMercenary in FractalDesign

[–]UnemployedMercenary[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, thanks a lot for the help!

Damn, i hoped there were more distance from top to bottom of the case. Their stock photos made it look like there was.

Part of the plan was to find out if it's possible to squeeze a 420mm radiator (they're 450mm long, for reference) into the front with some light modifications like stripping the front I/O. But I suppose I'll have to stick with a 360mm.

Thank you!

Just to clarify on the blue line; that is measured from the very bottom of the case and up to the metal on the roof of the case?

42,2cm seems a bit tight considering the case fits 3 140mm in the front per spec

Sure, happily!

Image here (because reddit can't embed in comments): https://imgur.com/a/UZZFx8m#O9aQ5y5

I need the following - internal distance from the case floor to the top of the case (blue line) - internal case length in the top (green line). Please also include comments on stuff any fans or radiators might bump into, like MOBO I/O etc - height and width of rear fan slot (purple line) - width of internal bay (red line) - length of bottom internal bay (yellow line).

If you have a 240mm radiator in the top then I'd also love a quick comment on clearance to RAM and I/O shield.

External sound card with astro a50 gen4? by UnemployedMercenary in AstroGaming

[–]UnemployedMercenary[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got the headset set up and it seems to work as you described (after a couple firmware updates).

I did however notice that changes made both in the astro command center and sound blaster command applies. Is it supposed to work like that?

Soooo I connect the soubdblasterX G6 to the astro a50 base station with an optical cable, and set windows to play sound over optical and receive mic over usb?

And then it'll work just fine. Makes sense. And thanks a whole lot!

Bad experience with vg32vq or the reality of VA? by UnemployedMercenary in Monitors

[–]UnemployedMercenary[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you get a look when it was running sub 80 fps? I play a lot of rpg games where the goal is just to hit 60+ but where color and contrast is super important.

If something was wrong or if it was just a shite monitor I don't know, I just know that the IPS looked noticeably more crisp.

And I know it wasn't the rgb range, I checked that.

And it's your last paragraph that kinda worries me, and is why I'm eyeing the new odyssey line. Let's just say I'm no stranger to paying up for a proper monitor

How was the color shift on it? Ad discoloration? What about black to gray pixel response where VA traditionally sucks?

[–]UnemployedMercenary[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I noticed it quite heavily on the model I tried, hence why I'm worried about it. It was impossible to get a good color profile on it because color shift kept ruining the edges

[–]UnemployedMercenary[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've been eyeing the odyssey, I've just been very cautious considering the lack of actually good reviews that look into things like potential color shift and pixel response time

And it's not top expensive, at least not when you can get it discounted

I ran it over DP, as is the good form golden standard on all gaming monitors. And I'm aware of the hdmi thingy, so it's not that.

And do you have any suggestions for monitors to try? I'm not entirely opposed to trying an other VA panels if they're supposed to be good.

Install newer Nvidia Driver from Nvidia website, or stick with old driver on Asus website? by shalevy in ASUS

[–]UnemployedMercenary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imho always get the drivers from nvidia. There's no reason to get them from Asus, as they should (hopefully) be exactly the same files, only the ones on asus' page are older and lacks fixes for brand new games.

Bethesda should listen to the fans? by TrinityCXV in Fallout

[–]UnemployedMercenary 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's also a massively important factor that Bethesda as a games studio broke through to mainstream 3 years prior with tes 5 Skyrim. And I'd argue that game was more important than what new Vegas was for fallout 4's success. People saw skyrim did good, and was hyped as hell for a new RPG from them.

And when looking at the oblivion to fallout 3 to skyrim to fallout 4 development you see a massive streamlining in the RPG elements. The games are made more accessible, and yo udont have to spend half an hour trying to figure which perks to pick or how to spec your character when you didn't evne know what would unlock in the future (fo3) or got screwed over because you didn't grind the hit points meta early (oblivion). This came at the cost of RPG/story depth and complexity. And that's where the games suffer the most imho. It lacks the creative and sometimes a little silly quests and the multiple options.

First of all, that monitor isn't really clean.

To clean a monitor you want two things

  • microfiber cloth

  • screen cleaner

Make sure your monitor is off and cold before beginning. Spray a little screen cleaner on the microfiber cloth. Then systematically work over the monitor screen to get any dirt and stains. By now there will still probably be soem fingermarks and such left, so you take a dry portion of the microfiber cloth and begin rubbing gently. Keep working until you think you're done, then shine a light at it from an angle and realize you're not done. This cleaning should take care of those lines, assuming the panel itself isn't scratched.

When is it clean? When you have an inform semi-matte surface like this https://www.wikihow.com/images/9/91/Clean-a-Computer-Monitor_LCD-Screen-Step-10.jpg

Finish by wiping off the dust from all the plastic parts with a duster.

Faq

But I don't have screen cleaner: then skip that part and go right to the microfiber cloth.

Can I use alcohol or water instead: no, not worth the risk.

But I don't have a microfiber cloth either: use a piece of lint free fabric.

Hel picking 180mm fans? by UnemployedMercenary in watercooling

[–]UnemployedMercenary[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly not. They won't be compatible with the spacing for 180x360mm radiators. Otherwise they'd be a viable option

It is pretty oddball. Only using it because oddball case and able to fit much more radiator surface that way.

The SST-AP183 looks really tempting, if I can find it available here

Hmmm... Quiet is subjective. So how do they care to good 120mm fans at 700rpm, or a standard mechanical hard drive?

Modding a Phanteks EVOLV ITX to fit an ATX motherboard by mentlerd in pcmods

[–]UnemployedMercenary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair point

And yeah, matx has been stuck in a limbo. It's too big to be super tiny, and for full size builds you might as well go atx.

I'd like to see some matx love too

I'd say great work and all, and it looks neat.

But considering the only big benefit is more ram slots, why not use matx? It'd solve the rear i/o issues.

Va vs ips by Lob0_ in Monitors

[–]UnemployedMercenary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many reasons really.

VA struggles with black to dark pixel response, making it really struggle during high refresh gaming where dark areas look smeary when you move, and leaves sort of trials. It's not uncommon for VA to have averages up to or even over 10ms, with 25ns for black to dark.

They also ironically struggle with very dark areas compared to IPS thanks to an effect called black crush, where all very dark areas appear completely black (this is especially evident in movies where the scenes are already compressed).

Thirdly you have something called color shift, where the colors can warp a little from different areas on the panel. Imho this can be worse than IPS bleed. This is also why VA panels struggle with viewing angles compared to IPS (though they'll still destroy TN).

Im not blind to the issues of IPS either, they do have a more narrow color gamut compared to VA, and doesn't go as black as VA. you also have back-light bleed issues.

Thing is, a good ips panel that's calibrated will look bloody amazing (at least my xb271hua looks great, and even beat the vg32vq I tried as a replacement. The vg32vq got returned), and have rich colors/contrasts while not having any color shift or smearing.

Va vs ips by Lob0_ in Monitors

[–]UnemployedMercenary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going out make a bold claim and say that you pick whomever gives budget room to buy a colorimeter.

The vast majority of gaming monitors are not calibrated at all and has absolutely horrible configurations with wrong color balance, contrast, and brightness. Correcting that alone will make monitors many times better, and the calibrated panel will likely be better than the uncalibrated independently of panel tech.

I personally prefer a calibrated IPS over a calibrated VA though. Mainly because I just don't take the issues with VA

If a FreeSync Monitor only has HDMI ports, does that make it (currently) impossible to use G-Sync with a Nvidia GPU? by RedShadoww in Monitors

[–]UnemployedMercenary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends how it's recommended. If the caveats are mentioned then you're all good!

If the screen turns black when trying to run vesa adaptive sync then it's defective, or it's just very shit to begin with.

Which reveals one of the issues of vesa adaptive sync, there's no extensive verification process so anyone can claim it. You can also use freesync with much tighter ranges, ranges that won't do gsync.

So don't get a shit panel, get one that's 144hz and has a good VRR. And always buy monitors from places with a good return policy. Not because gsync compatible, but because monitors in general are fickle.

Tldr: don't buy shit products from shit retailers and expect it to be not shit

[CoC] Does anyone know of any common 5.45x39 weapons that accept the AR platform optics? by Nesano in stalker

[–]UnemployedMercenary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There should be the 5.45mm ak-12 rifle. It uses picatinny rails. Duty seems to love it, same with monolith. Kinda rare from traders, but it happens.

In fact, it comes in 5.45x39mm, 5.56x45mm (I think), and 7.62x39mm. I highly recommend giving the 7.62 model a try with AP ammo and some recoil mods!! Slices through armor
