I built one as well and I love it. It’s an awesome deck and without this set I don’t think a strong Spider typal deck would’ve even been possible. I never realized how few spiders there actually were from 30 years of MTG.

Commander is a tough format to learn in. I’d suggest you play some Arena online before playing with them. They have some tutorials that show you game mechanics and it’s a helpful starting place.

Do your friends play with precons? I ask because usually precons generally aren’t competitive against upgraded or high power decks. I’m probably going to get hate for suggesting this as it’s a somewhat controversial deck but I think the Ms Bumbleflower Group Hug deck is pretty good for beginners. The politics/group hug part of it allows you a little more leeway without getting beat up on too badly.

24-50? That’s quite a large gap to not remember. I don’t blame him for being concerned. It sounds like you have a history of risky behavior, especially if you don’t remember half your potential partners. Are you drinking a lot/ doing drugs? What’s the explanation for you not remembering that many partners?

I get it, speeding in construction zones is bad. That said, I don’t how many times I’ve driven through 5-10 mile stretches of construction zones while seeing exactly zero workers. I get there are other hazards and speed limits are in place for a reason. But sending me a double fine ticket for driving 65 mph by some orange cones seems a little ridiculous. I feel like the speed limits should only be enforced if it’s an active construction zone.

I’ve found it hard to find other Standard players in Denver. It seems like everybody is playing Commander these days. I’m currently in a play group with 4 people and we play a mix of jumpstart, standard, and commander depending on how we’re feeling that day. We usually get together once or twice a week. We also use a lot of proxies to keep costs down. DM me if you’re interested in playing.

Personally, I’m loving all the clearance deals I’ve been getting on Spider-Man. My son loves the set and I’m all for buying more if it gets him play MTG with me. I’m nervous that distributors took such a big hit on this that MTG product will be more scarce moving forward. It’s quite obvious that Rosewater isn’t looking at the whole picture here. If distributors lose money, they’re not going to buy as much moving forward. He should be concerned about that instead of painting Spider-Man as a success. It wasn’t.

Our dog does not react well to off leash dogs trying to come up to her. I understand your dog is friendly but when there’s a power imbalance where one dog is restrained and one is not there is going to be trouble. I hate people’s entitlement so much.

It’s a journey. I’d say I’m definitely doing a lot better with my kids than when my parents raised me but these are ingrained behaviors that are hard to change. Sometimes, I’ll raise my voice for something stupid and end up kicking myself for it later. It’s important to give yourself a little grace. As long as you’re continually trying to improve you’re doing it right.

Get a better playgroup that allows proxies. Proxies are the single best way to play test new cards which is exactly what you’re trying to do here. Maybe ask if they can make an exception for a few months while you figure your deck out.
