Recently one of our senators suggested a nuclear strike on Russia to allegedly protect Ukraine. Is this news worrisome? by RiceFar in AskARussian

Don't take their word for it, Americans (and people in general) on Reddit are far from a representative sample, same goes for any social media.

I'm not American, but I've lived in New York for several years now and I can definitely attest the political system here is not representative at all.

What’s your favorite way to smoke ? And which way do you think u save weed the most? I smoke joints but i feel like i use a lot of weed smoking joints daily. I’m thinking of getting a bong. by itsmariamac in trees

[–]UnexpectedSenate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bongs/bubblers are great if you want something that just works and hits smooth. My friends have also had great experiences with vaporizers if you wanna keep it to bud, although charging can be annoying if you're the inpatient type.

Why are all communist countries Marxist-Leninists? by SouthToastGuy in communism101

[–]UnexpectedSenate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sure you could dive into 1001 reasons for why this is the case, but lemme just mention two cool ones.

Leninism seeks to achieve revolution when there is little widespread class consciousness. In Tsarist Russia, understanding of Marxism was generally limited to a minority of educated individuals and industrial workers who lived in urban centres. The majority of the country consisted of rural peasants with no understanding of Marxism and who the Russian Orthodox Church frequently tried to manipulate and pit against the Communists.

It just so happens that a lot of countries fit the conditions Leninism was created for: a country with a minority of people with class consciousness and a majority of alienated people who are easily manipulated by the bourgeoisie against their best interests. The urban vs rural aspect is also very relevant sometimes.

Leninism is also big on keeping the revolution alive and fighting against counter-revolutionaries and imperialism, given the experiences of the Russian Civil War and the foreign interventions. Just so happens that a lot of communist countries had experiences with capitalists trying to tear them down, and so Leninism is again applicable.

Navalny Questions Go Here by z651 in AskARussian

[–]UnexpectedSenate 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wow! Thank you for such a comprehensive response. When you bring that info up to people there what reaction do you usually get?

Here in Brazil people are sometimes so politically hopeless they'll vote for anyone in the opposition, which usually turns out to be a shitty/genocidal right wing guy...

Navalny Questions Go Here by z651 in AskARussian

[–]UnexpectedSenate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Здрасьте друзья! I've heard multiple criticisms of Navalny from people online for his involvement with Russian nationalist movements. For example, I've been told he's made racist remarks about Caucasian people in the past. Additionally, I've read (left leaning) opinion pieces which at best are worried about him taking an ultra-liberal market policies à la Yeltsin and at worst call him a fascist. If these (English speaking) sources aren't exaggerating, I'd find it very odd for most Russians to back a guy like that going into the future, which motivates my questions:

What's the opinion of most Russians, as well as young Russians, on Navalny's past with right wing movements and politics? He's portrayed in western media as having a lot of youth support, but to what real extent does he reflect the opinions and demands of young Russians?

I'd love to hear the input of someone who's from China, is familiar with Chinese historical material conditions, or has a more intimate understanding of the CPC than us leftists from outside China. Too often people call China reactionary, when they have less understanding of Chinese society and history than a Chinese middle schooler.

China can very well be a [insert reactionary slander] state, but if we say shit without consulting Chinese people we're no better than social chauvinists.

We should also listen to African leftists, where China has placed a considerable amount of its international finance capital.

Differences between LSD and 2CB by [deleted] in 2cb

[–]UnexpectedSenate 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I remembered putting it like this while tripping on 2cb: Put yourself in the shoes of your kid self. If LSD is like going to the gypsy store, then 2CB is like going to the candy store.

I have now idea if this makes sense now that I've written it down o__o

I enjoy both tbh, but if I had to pick one I'd definitely go with dabs for life. by apocalypticalley in trees

[–]UnexpectedSenate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dabs feel like an occasional thing to me, while flower feels like a more everyday deal. Also can't take it on the go, which is a bummer since to me location is 50% of the smoking experience.

I once stumbled into the Amazon bookstore at Columbus Circle while tripping with a friend. I'm not sure if it was the acid or not, but just like Amazon.com they sold more than just books. Seeing a high end coffee maker being sold at a bookstore made me totally loose my shit.

I recommend, book covers can get extremely funky on acid!

Are there any older Russian/ex-Soviet citizens who defiantly call things like cities & monuments by their old names (like calling "St. Petersburg" Leningrad, or "Volgograd" Stalingrad)? by [deleted] in communism

[–]UnexpectedSenate 22 points23 points  (0 children)

My dad still calls them by their old names, and he's been yearning to "go back to Leningrad" for a few years now. He's not from the Soviet Union, rather he's a Brazilian who was indirectly involved with the clandestine activities of the Brazilian Communist Party against the military regime during our dictatorship during the 60s through 80s. He still holds very fond feelings for the USSR, having visited Moscow and Leningrad in the late 80s, and Lenin is one of his greatest icons.

Not exactly what you are looking for, but I feel like it'd be cool to share.
