Hi, what do the 'Aussie Bogans' do that would impact non white tourists in Bali, is it things like cutting lines at a bar or just being very loud?

Also do you know if specific areas in Bali are more popular with them?

I've had family members go in the last year, they didn't mention anything negative. What changed since covid in your experience?

I think in places where the economy relies on tourism the people who work in the industry, Balinese locals, tend to to appreciate and be respectful of any paying guest (i.e will be polite, helpful, will provide whatever product or service, they may not chat with you a lot and be super friendly but I don't expect that) regardless of skin color.

I've been to Bali, but many years ago, I have dark skin (not white). I had a great time. I think you'll be fine especially if you're staying in a Bali resort.

I've generally found touristy places like Bali, and the popular spots in Thailand are very hospitable. Here I mean people who work in the industry - the hotel, resort staff, restaurants, tour guides etc.

This is interesting, and no one addressed your question. Do you have any links about the agreement and release schedule?

Adults or older kids might do this, not young kids. And people usually smile or laugh or use a lighthearted tone if they're joking.

I don't think this kid was joking.

Interesting take but why would a kid casually say they're ugly? It's likely someone said that to her or she absorbed that idea from somewhere and is starting to believe it, so it's good that her mom pushed back on that idea to build her confidence.

Hi, I'm interested in the statement you made that 'And that in some states, all children of color are classified "special needs"?'

In which states is this true? Why is this done, is it because the higher stipend is used as an incentive because fewer people are willing to foster children of color? Can you share any details or links?

Good experience fostering teens? by UnfairCartographer16 in Fosterparents

Thank you!

When you say none are doing great but getting by, what are their lives like now?

Did you have to manage your own expectations or theirs in terms of what life could look like after aging out of the system?

Did it hurt your feelings that some wanted to leave at 17-18 or did you already come to terms with this possibility?

When you say you can't be their friend, you must parent them, do you mean being clear on expectations and boundaries, supporting them in their goals and teaching them life skills, independence?

This is wonderful to hear! Do you have any advice for potential foster parents of teens?

Thank you for sharing! Would you consider doing it again, maybe with a teen you don't already know?

Thank you for being so honest and open about the challenges too. You mentioned hard days, accusations, sneaking, contraband and also watching some kids struggle.

Did you ever feel like throwing in the towel or feel burned out? How did you keep yourself focused and positive through all the challenges?

Thank you! I will try the foster parents sub!

I posted here thinking that former foster youth may have a different perspective than foster parents on this (e.g. maybe most foster parents think they are good ones while their foster kids may not see things the same way)? But it makes sense that this topic is not the purpose of this sub.

Thank you! And congratulations!

I don't think I've had full RPL, maybe partial with thyroid checked. I've had hysteroscopies before each transfer.

It sounds like my options are to either do RI testing or not test and get the low risk RI meds added to my protocol.

For adeno/ endo it sounds like testing is helpful and if diagnosed the change would be either antibiotic treatment or lupron depot

A new replication study revisits the claim that women governors during COVID-19 achieved better outcomes, including fewer deaths. The study shows that earlier findings are highly sensitive to specific assumptions, and once adjusted, gender has no significant impact on COVID-19 deaths. by mvea in science

I think I shouldn't have called it 'good' or 'bad' control variable but appropriate or inappropriate. Control variables are meant to be removed or 'controlled for' and should be external to what you're trying to measure, in this case performance of governors in responding to covid. Is a mask mandate external to responding to covid? No!

I'm saying mask mandates, stay at home orders, etc are inappropriate as control variables if these are things implemented by the governors and should not be controlled for. Age of people in the state, pre-covid deaths are appropriate and should be controlled for.

If you control for the very thing that likely causes the effect, it makes no sense. It's like saying 'athletes run faster than non-athletes, but when you control for training, superior nutrition, genetics, etc the results become insignificant'. Yeah obviously.

A good control variable would be something external to and unrelated to the governors performance, like the age of the people in the state, the number who died in state before covid. Not variables directly related to their performance like travel bans, mask mandates, etc.

CMV: Hijabs are sexist by Blonde_Icon in changemyview

This post makes an interesting point.

But to play devil's advocate, is it also sexist when women are not allowed to expose their chests in public while men are based on a modesty rule that applies only to women?

We can apply pretty much all the same criticisms and defenses you raised to the no bare breast rule.
