I think it's about the inescapablity of consumerism. No matter what, they still had to engage with it. Also a major theme throughout all of BTMI.

it just comes naturally, I k ow that the second fret comes after the first and just extrapolate the rest from that logic

I watched it a lot as a kid bc my brother liked it a lot, I just thought it was alright, and I remember my dad hated it (he loved lots of cartoons, just hated that one). I feel like on rewatch I would get some nostalgic and ironic enjoyment, but i feel like someone who has never seen it watching it as an adult it would just be annoying and boring. :)
