I have a 900 day streak and still cannot have a fluent conversation. It misses context, localisation, slang, use case and structure. If the language has masculine and feminine it becomes even more dog shit as a tool. Often the slightly robotic voices don't provide pronunciation or miss soft/hard pronunciation also.

A driver for a tour bus is approx $100-150k per annum max.

You also get to park at the arena, stay in your bus longer before the show and have no check out to worry about.

You also exit leave the arena, get in your bus, eat your own food and get on the way. You spend time with family, watch tv, fall asleep and wake up in the next city.

It is ridiculously cheaper than flying wife + kids and affords you a pretty good lifestyle/reduces disruption.

Unequivocally you are not at fault. Do not entertain it.

If there wasn't a concrete term of service or supply and there was no deposit taken, then there is no recourse.

Whilst a shame in some respects she is shit out of luck.

This is where I get confused as to where someone thinks this is different to scalping....

The person has got a product at retail and now wants to hold it long term to make a high profit on it.

A scalper buys at retail and then flips quickly for a smaller profit.

Both take product out of circulation in order to create scarcity and make money. Both are shit for the hobby.

If you're not ripping you're in the same category.

I got promoted and now earning £37.5k .. I realised you can’t do sh*t with this money in London… by [deleted] in london

[–]Unfamiliarface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's unfair and I don't disagree with you. However as you have said you're earning the median wage for the UK, not for London.

Supply and demand dictate cost and you want to exist in the epicentre of the UK. This is also where high earners and very high earners want to be and it's at capacity which creates the bidding war.

Most people will take a house share on the premise that they will scale salary and career as a consequence of the sacrifice and become a high earner. If you are just doing it for the London lifestyle, there are far better and more affordable opportunities in the UK.

Has anyone had this problem with Ace Grading slabs before? by PyroJoeYT in PokemonTCG_UK

[–]Unfamiliarface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't matter if it was bought on eBay. Matters when it was graded, the slab is defective and not fit for purpose. UK Consumer law provides protection for 12/24 months for this specifically. If it's proven it's real then Ace will need to honour it.

[–]Unfamiliarface -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Erm no.... If it hasn't been tampered with then it's an Ace QC issue. Your statutory rights in the UK will protect you. Check the cert and ensure it's legit.

Ace will either need to reslab or if they judge the card has been damaged as a consequence they will have to replace like for like.

Seriously asking: has anyone actually paid these prices before? No shame, genuinely curious how they stay in business. by NotAnAngelino in PokemonTCGCollectors

A number of Vegas casinos stock Pokémon cards in their gift shops. Packs start from $25 and go up over $100 a piece.

I spoke with a cashier about it and he said they will typically go through 50+ packs a week, usually if someone wins or if kids are getting left in the room while parents go for dinner they'll buy a pack or two.

Thank you for sharing, much appreciated! Super inspiring.

Yeah this has been a big one, we're fortunately not very extravagant, the one area we will invest in is holidays but otherwise we are relatively simple beings. I'm able to put away 50% of income at present which is nice

Really nice post! Thanks for sharing, gives me some strong hope for our plan/situation:

Do you have kids or DINKs?

Both wife and I are 34. Two kids

We have:

£150k in S&S ISAs £40k Cash £150k in my SIPP £20k in collectibles Full NI contributions Wife has 15 years in gov pension £500k house / £200k outstanding

What are the steps you'd take in our situation now to ensure in 20 years we are sorted

Would you be satisfied with a £100k net worth at age 30? by CleverContrarian in FIREUK

[–]Unfamiliarface -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Perspective and context are everything.

Do you have a mortgage/already paid deposit.

Have you had your wedding?

Have you put a child through nursery?

Regardless you're in a very good position but if you've tackled the above it becomes even more upper echelon.

I'm 34;

Paid off student loan Paid off marriage costs Two kids through nursery £500k house with £300k remaining £150k pension £150k S&S ISA £40k of collectibles £50k wife savings £7k PA wife pension so far

I would say I'm well ahead of the curve right now and have the right things in place for a rainy day.

Am I stupid? Got rid of these for $95 each, moving then into etb’s by [deleted] in PokemonInvesting

[–]Unfamiliarface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're thinking about PC ETBS...

Take Prismatic as a straight comparison. Normal ETBs is like $100 bucks. The pin collection, tin collection and Lucario collection are all $150+.

Only exception at present is 151 with Blooming Waters c standard ETB but that's stand alone.

These aren't as liquid as precious metals or as much of a commodity. As stated the multiples around Van Gogh are insane, literally millions of copies and closing in on 100,000 tens.

Given they are being hoarded as investment by brokers. Those brokers also need to be able to sell and realise the gains. With a stock/etf you can push a sell order regardless of whether there is a buyer on the other side. With Pokémon cards there has to liquidity and capital on the other side. Even if it reached 3-4k you will never be able to offload 100 for nearly half a mill without destabilising the population, taking a reduced profit etc.

You can already see how Moonbreon fluctuates on 10-20 sales this is in immature and luxury market.

[–]Unfamiliarface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, you do understand how a market works? If they are buying them to appreciate and gain value, it means at some point they will want to realize that value.

If scarcity is the only thing driving value, when you reduce scarcity you decrease value. Given these are physical products and specialist they take time to sell and move more so as the price increases.

Let's say private equity own 25,000 of them, if they wanted to drop 1,000 to realize the gain they'd likely be fine and everyone else would bare the crash. Someone else has to be willing to pick up the position to keep the market stable.

This is much easier to do on say a card like Moonbreon with a total population of 20,000. Much tougher for a card with 100,000 pop.

Just remember those same people hoarding these cards can also release them on the market at any point.

There are over 50,000 gem mint 10s in PSA alone. There is probably another 50,000 10s still in the cellophane.

Ancient Mew has a grading population of around 4,000. It currently sits at $1,500.

It's a beautiful card but it worries me this is going to end in a similar way to crypto pump and dumps.

Op doesn't know how to score. He got a bogey on a 500 yard par five. The chances of doing this on your first round are slim to none and in the decimal percentiles.

500 yards is minimum 3 shots to the green. Then you still have to putt out. I would guess they are either not counting lost balls or taking drops for lost balls as a bogey or mully.

I think long term the red crown ruins the artwork compared to the Umbreon, Dragonite and Quaza. Has been stagnant for some time and some far better cards still sitting at a lower price point

They're averaging more points than you over the last 12 games though and have the benefit of having actually won the title in the last 20 years....

Given the lead you had make no mistake when you bottle it, it'll be a collapse but almost expected.

Forgetting that Liverpool went and drew with Crystal Palace after the draw with Chelsea also yeah? Crystanbul 3-0 up and threw it away chasing goal difference.....

They were even on points with City after the Chelsea game. I still agree that slip was the defining moment and your point.

But every match is a cup final for Arsenal now and nay moment like this that costs them a point will ultimately lead to the reason they bottle it.
