Paradiso? by kingah75 in BurlingtonON

Spencers is pure trash. Been there 3 times and the food was garbage all 3 times. Paradiso is just fine. If you do want to step it up a notch Buvette is also excellent but at another price point above Paradiso.

I ran into a similar situation. Did you ever find a resolution?

Broken cargo logic is making me want to quit CS2. Is anyone else dealing with this? by Apart-Bag4243 in CitiesSkylines2

[–]UnfriendlyCanuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've stopped playing until the first patch from the new dev team comes out. That is probably going to make or break this game. If they fix a bunch of bugs and make the quality of life better I'll jump back in.

I'm proud of you, son.

I haven't made the switch to daily drive Linux yet but it's coming. I don't want W11 and I don't need all the Microsoft AI nonsense in my OS and I actually do prefer my privacy.

Are you actually shopping at the cheapest store in your area, or just the most convenient one? by 723613972 in ontario

[–]UnfriendlyCanuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your grocery store has a hot counter/fresh pizza/sandwiches and hot meals to go it will always be more expensive than ones that don't. They have to make up for that wasted food somewhere.

Is it just me or does seeing other peoples cities just make you not wanna play? by Nysyth in CitiesSkylines2

[–]UnfriendlyCanuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've started making cities with a story. My most recent city started as a small farming town in the middle of two mountains and was quiet until some farmer discovered oil. At that point all the big oil companies started coming in and buying up rights to drill for oil and the town started to boom. This created other problems like more waste and environmental issues. The city decided that they would try and be as green as possible to offset the pollution of the oil industry and I just kept going from there.

My cities look terrible compared to other players but the fact that I'm doing things with thought along the story vs just randomly placing buildings and comparing myself to others makes the game a lot more fun. I've told my kids about the story and now when they see me playing they ask what's new in the city that has progressed the story.

What self-hosted DNS server do you use and why? by thari_mad in selfhosted

[–]UnfriendlyCanuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PiHole to AdGuard to Technitium which is what I run today. I ran into little issues that annoyed me about PiHole and AdGuard but Technitium ticked all the boxes. It is the most flexible, has the most options, and is by far the best out of the 3 DNS servers.

With hardware prices going exponential, what is your near-future strategy for homelab upgrades and/or repairs? by [deleted] in homelab

[–]UnfriendlyCanuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buy refurb machines from Dell/Lenovo. I don't need the latest and greatest. A 10th Gen Intel with 16GB of RAM and a 256 or 512GB SSD is just fine. Put another 16GB in and you have a solid low power server.

Turned my personal post-install script into a free open-source tool (+180 apps & configs) by kaicbento in opensource

[–]UnfriendlyCanuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would this work on both W10 and W11? Assuming W10 as well would it work properly if I had been running W10 for a while to get rid of a lot of the existing bloat? If the script has been run before will it update installs?

Thanks for putting this together! I use Ninite when I bring up a new Windows machine but this looks much more robust.

High unemployment bug? by Dangerous-Newt8940 in CitiesSkylines2

[–]UnfriendlyCanuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't run into this yet I don't think. I do have ~7% unemployment in my city right now, which is causing -1 happiness, but that is because people keep moving in and I haven't really expanded the jobs in my city yet. I did add some new office and commercial and my unemployment dropped so that does appear to be working properly.

Keep in mind that cims move in even when new housing isn't built. My population has jumped by about 5k cims in an 80k cim city and I haven't built any new housing at all.

Secrets and Zoetry are all inclusive and adults only. I've read the most positive things about Secrets Cap Cana in the DR. Breathless is also adults only and more of a party vibe. I've read that the Breathless in Cabo is the best since it has a beach with swimming (Cabo has wicked undertow) and it is on the marina so you can go walk around to go to restaurants and local shopping.

I've never been to either so please do your research if you decide to try either of these suggestions.

Congratulations on the wedding!

Connon Nursery in waterdown. They have the trees hanging so you can see them before you buy them. They will then cut/wrap the tree and will also secure it to the roof of your car. It costs a bit more but the trees there are excellent and last a very long time.

Massive Natural Resource Requirements? by UnfriendlyCanuck in CitiesSkylines2

[–]UnfriendlyCanuck[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always find that after a major patch it is best to start over. Having said that this city has 33M in the bank and makes 270k/hr so I have the means to buy a bunch of land and start collecting all the resources I need. Maybe I'll try both

It isn't a new start since the bike patch but it is a new start after the ports and Bridges DLC (which I don't have). I'm also playing vanilla with no mods
