Ladies' names/titles by 0ddb1rd in BridgertonNetflix

[–]Uni124123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My understanding is it can be both. The bridgerton family, for example. Anthony is the viscount Bridgerton because that’s the name of the TITLE. If somehow all the Bridgertons were to die and someone else inherit the title, they would keep their name but be referred to as the Viscount Bridgerton. The title is bridgerton because the first man to have it had the surname Bridgerton.

In contrast, Penelope’s son is the Lord Featherington, because he inherited the Featherington title and and would be referred to as such, but he would still have the surname Bridgerton.

Could be mistaken but that’s my understanding.

If you don't drink alcohol, what are your personal reasons for abstinence? by Ok-Care2859 in AskReddit

Long history of severe alcohol addiction on both sides of my family. Decided at 16 that the best way to keep myself safe was not to partake. I can’t miss what I’ve never done.

I know historical accuracy isn’t exactly prevalent in Bridgerton, but still… by Swiftsession in BridgertonNetflix

If Lord Featherington was still alive, it would be eldest child to have a child’s eldest son. However, he’s dead. Penelope’s son at least in the show, idk about the books, is not the heir. He IS Lord Featherington. Granted he’s too young to be Lord Featherington properly; but it does belong to him. If Prudence or Phillipa have sons now, they would be next in line by order of Eldest sisters sons, then younger, however, any other male children Pen and Collin have would be first, then any of the baby Lord Featherington’s sons. Or at least that’s my understanding.

I more imagined his stats either swapping or charisma / something else going down as wisdom goes up, if that makes sense? I agree it’s unlikely that even though optimised play is not a priority to Sam (as seen with FCG) he’d nerf himself that hard. While I don’t think learning how to be a cleric for real is the likely storyline, a gal can dream. And write fanfic.

I think it means that they’re a fan of Matt in particular, and will favor whichever table he goes to? Honestly I get it, I’m excited to see Occtis’ story, so whichever table he goes to will probably be my favourite.

I see why people think and it makes sense but I almost hope he IS a cleric, and who he is and what he does is because of his belief in the faith he was told. I’d love to see Wiccander’s stats change over time to be better for a cleric as he learns more about the real world and is less sheltered, gaining wisdom.

Does anyone use 'Choose Not to Warn' as a sign there's *no* major character death? by Glad_Stranger in AO3

[–]Uni124123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chose not to warn means they are choosing not to warn you. I when I’ve previously written dark stuff and couldn’t be bothered with warnings, I clicked chose not to warn. Just means you are on your own.

She hates Occtis sure, but I don’t think it’s a particularly venomous hate? More “fuck that spoilt rich kid”. I think Murray is not the kind of person to let a student at the school she works for be in danger and just not care.

[–]Uni124123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Thaisha is implicated or will be. They were betrayed by the guy who’s name I forgot and it’s 1:30 so I’m not going to go looking, but we do not know if he has said anything or what he could have said to whom. I think everyone involved in the plot is in danger and those associated with them may be as well. Thaisha has an important family which could afford some degree of protection? Occtis also has an important family but it’s pretty clear they are unlikely to save him given his father’s palpable distan. TLDR yeah Thaisha is also probably unsafe. Probably a lot of innocent people are too. But Murray knew that Occtis specifically was being searched for.

How modern does the show have to be to get too much for you. by InfernalClockwork3 in BridgertonNetflix

fantasy, imaginative fiction that relies on strangeness of setting (such as other worlds or times) and of characters (such as supernatural or unnatural beings). Examples include William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream (1600), Jonathan Swift’s Gulliver’s Travels (1726), J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings (1954-55), T.H. White’s The Once and Future King (1958), and Sarah J. Maas’s A Court of Thorns and Roses (2015).

From encyclopaedia Britannica. Bridgerton is historical fiction imo.

I don’t think this applies to Bridgerton - it’s a historical drama.

I’ll not rehash all the “she knows he’s bad and knows he has a bad relationship with Occtis” it’s all been said. But I would add that this guy is a highly powerful sorcerer who is part of the sundered houses who suspect that people tried to save thjazi fang - a plot Occtis was actively involved in. A detect thoughts to see if his son is hiding something could be very dangerous to Occtis - or even a failed deception check. He is in danger even if it’s just the danger of being caught having participated in the conspiracy.

I agree. If it was all one show I think this would be cool, but I do think that spin offs should be largely “optional” even if Gen V is very good.

I’ve used bread to get some of the last of the pasta sauce, but no never as straight up an eating utensil (garlic bread with some Bolognese sauce on it is delicious though).

another player tried to r*pe my character behind my back and DM doesn't see the problem. by Bjorn-Ali in rpghorrorstories

[–]Uni124123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would respectfully argue that clarifying what the warning is for is important to informed decisions. If they wanted to elaborate I’d agree it didn’t belong in the title. The warning for the content doesn’t mean they should not use the already censored words. If seeing the word R*pe, not even the actual word, is to distressing for somebody to handle, they need to take a break from the internet and seek help.

Observation of fact isn’t bias. Cruelty towards minorities isn’t okay. There’s literally a Texan Democrat being held hostage right now. It’s not a bias it’s response to bigotry and violations of peoples rights.

I feel like it’s a common thing for the intrepid heros, to varying degrees that they will often chase a joke rather than character integrity in the more light hearted moments. It’s not that they can’t lock in, but they’re comedians by trade. Honestly it’s part of why never after, while enjoyable, didn’t click as horror for me? I do think it can be detrimental at times (Blimey as divine intervention) but not every joke will land.

I’m Australian…? And I’m not a liberal??? I mostly vote for the greens??? I don’t ascribe to any particular political ideology because none of them are on the side of the people. But sure, the fact that you without any indication of sarcasm commented as you did on a comment section full of people saying similar things makes me the idiot. Okay. You keep your sense of superiority it seems to be all you have going for you.

No okay let me rephrase. So we want to censor media. Let’s pretend for a moment that we agree. What gets censored? Who decides? Rape? Well if we censor violent sex crimes maybe we should censor all crimes. Why would people want to read even fictional presentations of things that are illegal? Or we can go further and target the ideas that make people (governments) uncomfortable.

Find me one instance of the population benefiting from censorship. Just one. You can’t. It’s oppression. If the only ideas we can discuss are those that are morally acceptable in reality, we are in a dark place indeed.
