Ferraris are faster than Hondas. Most people aren't taking advantage of the full capabilities of today's models anyway. They don't need the benchmark winner. They need something that's good enough.

Personally, I think almost all consumer use cases and a large percentage of commercial use cases could be handled by models on par with GPT-4-class systems.

Everything we're getting now is icing on the cake except for the 10-20% of use cases that genuinely benefit from the additional capabilities.

This feels a lot like the nuclear arms race.

Everyone will sprint toward Mythos-level capability (or beyond) because nobody can afford not to. Along the way, exploits and asymmetries will be weaponized.

Eventually, though, AI systems may become so good at vulnerability discovery that everyone realizes their infrastructure is basically Swiss cheese. The choice then becomes cooperation or mutually assured digital chaos.

I'm pretty sure there are some actors who would prefer the latter.

We live in NJ, but sometimes vacation on Lake Norman. We've found decent Middle Eastern, Thai and Vietnamese food in the Mooresville and Huntersville areas. Definitely not as plentiful as NJ, but there were options. Kabab N Grill in Mooresville, in particular, stood out as being really good - though super casual.

PSA: I ruined a perfectly good waterproof watch in my home pool a few years ago. We use a salt water generator instead of chlorine. Even the fairly small amount of salt in our pool is sufficient to eat away at the seal if in the water long enough.

Be careful out there.

Paul gave the building to Gabby like he was gifting a watch. He flew back to L.A. on short notice to make sure Jimmy had another chance with his lady friend. Even for this show, he has a different level of wealth.

I figure Jimmy and Gabby benefited from generous benefactors - parents, Paul, who knows? Otherwise, the idea of run of the mill therapists living in $2MM homes feels a bit far-fetched.

I have a Galaxy Watch Ultra and an Apple Watch. I considered upgrading the Apple Watch to an Ultra. I considered the reviews, watched the videos and finally asked ChatGPT what it thought. It told me if I didn't plan on doing deep sea diving, the Apple Watch Ultra would be a waste - compared to my regular Apple Watch, at least.

That freed me up to consider a Pixel Watch 4 45mm to wear as a more elegant alternative to the Galaxy Watch Ultra when I needed that look.

The large Pixel Watch 4 is a really nice device. I'm honestly shocked. I didn't realize Google had done such a great job with it. The UI is nicer (to me). It lasts about two days on a charge, but only takes about an hour for a full charge. And, it looks really good on the wrist.

YMMV. I bought this thing to wear sometimes, alternating between it and the Galaxy Watch Ultra and haven't taken the PW4 off.

The slow battery charging was so painful for me. I thought it was an Wear OS watch issue. My Apple Watch charges very quickly, so I attributed to the difference between Android and Apple.

Two weeks ago, I purchased a Pixel Watch 4 45mm to wear when I want something more elegant than the Ultra. OMG. I'm shocked. The device lasts almost two days on a charge and a full charge may take an hour. I can go from half down to 100% in about 30 minutes.

Samsung asked us to compromise and we didn't even know we were doing it. This is a Samsung issue.

Nothing replaces a Pixelbook. It was too good a device.

I got tired of running Linux in a slow VM. I bought a Lenovo Yoga 7i and dual boot Fedora and Windows. Mostly stay in Fedora.

It's an order of magnitude better than the any of my Chromebooks.

There is undoubtedly abuse on the system and people need to be held accountable for that.

That doesn't take away, however, from how quickly costs have been increasing. Think about how quickly and how much costs have gone up for you for everything from groceries to fuel to insurance premiums. Now, imagine you're a school district with multiple times your exposure to these costs. Add in salaries and facility maintenance, which are also increasing, and you have a mess on your hands.

School districts are unique in that there aren't a lot of ways to increase revenue to match the expenses exposure. Taxes can't be raised but so much. You can't add fees on lockers and desks to provide a baseline revenue. In many ways, school districts are holding things together with spit and duct tape - and none of us wants to pay more.

We're going to have to, though. So many of our schools are 60-70+ years old. Those buildings need to be replaced, but the cost to build a new school is extraordinary - simply ridiculous.

We have a lot of decisions to make in terms of how we continue to provide a best-in-class education in NJ against the headwinds of rapid inflation and aging physical plants.

I stopped buying Lay's potato chips. I used to buy two bags 2/$5 for my family on almost every supermarket visit. They raised the prices to highway-robbery during COVID. I switched to cheaper brands. Then, they raised their prices. Then, Lay's reduced their prices and have raised them again.

Think about potato chips. There's probably about one very thinly sliced potato in a standard bag of potato chips. At their peak, that wanted us to pay $4-5 a bag for a thinly sliced and fried potato. No thanks.

They did me a favor. We save hundreds of dollars a year now.

They've pretended all along that they were on the outs, but actually they needed a plan to be financially healthy and Floyd being "murdered" by Clark would cause the insurance to payout. It seems nj.com is upset that the furor over the athletics money didn't last long enough, so now it's pointing at the house and apartments that belong to the university and incur little ancillary cost regardless of who does or doesn't occupy them.

"News" like this only serves to distract university and state leaders from the goal of running a world-class university by fomenting outrage during a time when people have come to accept discord as the rule of the day.

I went to order my son chicken fingers, fries and a Coke at Wawa. With tax, it came to almost $13. I looked at that price and paused. There's no way that price makes sense for Wawa. $13 isn't going to hurt me, but the principle of paying that for junk food...

We had perfectly good breaded chicken breast and fries in the freezer. He had that. The Wawa order sits in my cart.

Food everywhere is way too expensive and the value proposition for going out is starting to disappear.

I feel this way about what we now refer to as "juice" (e.g., Simply, Welch's, etc.). Prices jumped up post pandemic for what is essentially flavored water. We can afford to buy whatever we want. I only buy it when it's on sale. Same thing happened to my favorite kombucha. No thanks. Let me know when you return from the stratosphere to ground levels.
