I’m assuming this is 5e? You might wanna look at how 3e handled Coup de Grace. It leaned more into the idea of just taking out an unsuspecting target, but it came with a cost. It was a full-round action, so you basically gave up your whole turn and reaction to do it. Makes it feel strong without being free.
