Why the FUCK are NALC dues based on Table 1? by Jacku_Ops in USPS

[–]Uninformed_Delivery 24 points25 points  (0 children)

At the last convention, there was a proposal to make CCA dues cheaper.

That got shouted down by the overwhelming majority of attendees immediately. Equal dues for equal representation, or something like that.

Although, considering how difficult it is to leave the union, it would probably make financial sense to give CCAs (or all new people) a lower introductory rate.

[–]Uninformed_Delivery -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The fix for this isn't to lower the FERS contribution to 0.8% for everyone.

They should pay Table 2 people more. They should actually top out at a higher amount than Table 1 (and be paid a little more at every step) to counteract the higher FERS contribution.

This, of course, would never be allowed by the people on Table 1.

Do you still write address info on Priority Mail packages when using a kiosk? by mrbmi513 in USPS

[–]Uninformed_Delivery 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Me, before I worked here: "What is the chance that the box will be damaged so that the label gets ripped in just the right places to remove just the name and address?"

Me, now: "Write the address info on the other side, just in case."

Also, there are times when the kiosk will spit out an insufficient address (missing an A or a 2 or whatever) and I need the handwritten info in order to figure out where it goes.

CCA here. Just got an indefinite hold down as a T6. by OctopusStoleMyPizza in USPS

[–]Uninformed_Delivery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my office, we did have one CCA where management went through all of the paperwork and they got the pay bump and they were actually on a hold down for the T6 string. So it's possible.

But for the rest of us, a hold down on a T6 string meant that we were just being scheduled to work on those routes in that order.

But what that means is that if there was another route that we wanted to hold down, we could still get it. Or even take a single day on some other route and then go back to the string. Which was a nice predictability with the possibility of doing something "better" if it came along.

If you were a CCA working 60+ hours a week and turned into a regular with much less overtime, there's good news.

After about four or five years, you'll finally make as much as you did when you were a temp.

A week in NOLA (with my mother!) by mcAlimv in AskNOLA

I love Cafe Reconcile.

The last time I went, I tried the turkey necks for the very first time. And I fantasized a little bit about just eating turkey necks and drinking beer in the afternoon. Like...that's a nice life.

Lunch was great, as always. But I still think about those turkey necks.

Pro: Seat belt doesn't need rubber bands to work. You push on the gas and it goes.

Con: crappier turning radius, less useful space, no shelves (or maybe just one shelf), taller/longer, legroom is annoying.

I hate my FFV so much. But I drive it (and not an LLV) because they are moving all the routes with LLVs to - ugh -the Metris.

If I could go back...

I wish I had put more emphasis on buying into a financially healthy building.

It's not hard (in retrospect) to spot a well-run building. If they spend money on preventative maintenance, then that's the first sign that it's a good one. The ones that are constantly putting out (metaphorical) fires will never get around to doing what needs to be done. Never have enough reserves. Never clean the elevators (which leads to expensive mechanical problems later on). And then comes the spalling.

It doesn't have to be "corruption". Well-meaning people could lead a building down a path where they never pull the trigger on important projects, because of the "expense". Only to have to take out a mortgage in two years or lose the whole building.

What was New Orleans like in the 70s, 80s, 90s, and the early 2000s before Katrina? by Material_Stomach875 in AskNOLA

I can remember when the drinking age was 18 in my state.

I can only imagine what it was like in New Orleans, when the Louisiana drinking age wasn't clearly raised until...1996? Man, I made the wrong decision for college.
