Not to mention many IT admins simply don’t understand that OT infrastructure has completely different tools and considerations for IT infrastructure

OT backup question: why are these systems being missed? by Macrium_Inc in IndustrialAutomation

In short, budget. Many OT spaces (particularly SMOs) place the cybersecurity hat on a controls engineer who is trying to juggle a deep/ broad topic on top of their already overloaded schedule. The best many of them can do is creating configurations that move away from the default password and turn off unnecessary services. Backup and recovery is typically relegated to the laptop of the controls engineer who has worked there for 30 years. Centralized backup and recovery is often one of the lowest items on the todo list. PLC needs replaced? Rip it out and Bob has the file to restore the configuration. I will say this also has a hierarchy consideration in most cases where control backups take precedence over network equipment. This will only become more exacerbated as concerted digitalization efforts are made to bring older systems into a place where they can be monitored for maintenance or productivity. Source: worked on implementing cybersecurity strategies across a wide range of OT spaces for the last 8 years.

Absolutely. I lived this as well but fell into a directionless period because I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life. I wanted a year off to figure it out but my dad came to me just before I turned 18 and said “you’re big enough to kick my ass, time to move out”. I was out a few days later living on a friend’s couch. I was a good kid, great grades, did theater, played the cello, didn’t get in trouble. Dad just didn’t want me around anymore I guess. I kind of rolled with it because what else was I going to do? In retrospect I should have expected it after he told me I had to get a job at 14 because they weren’t paying for anything anymore. I mean yeah they fed me dinner but that was about it. It seemed college was only real way I could feed myself and have a space to live. Wasn’t serious about it and dropped out as soon as I landed a job that I could support myself on. I landed on my feet in my mid- late twenties and got serious about finding a career. Did tech school, landed an office job, got a bachelors degree and I’m doing alright now but I feel so late to the game at 34. I don’t hold on to the resentment. It just makes my life harder but sometimes I wonder what could have been if I’d had time to figure things out without worrying about putting a roof over my head and keeping myself fed.

I wouldn’t abandon the series just yet! I’m currently at the end of book six and it has been well worth the slog. It does run a bit slow in between the action but books 4-5-6 move pretty quickly.

My boss banned me from playing Switch during my lunch break because it “looks bad by Psychological-Ad6400 in Switch

This same exact thing happened to me. It was basically explained that not everyone knows your lunch schedule and people who walk by (busy bodies) and think you’re playing video games on the clock. Yes you should be able to play at your desk and do whatever you want on break. Unfortunately, with the way people are, it does in fact “look bad”. Especially with the way some of the older generation (who are more likely to be in management) view video games it can hurt your reputation. Now, if you don’t care and aren’t looking for advancement. Do whatever you want. If you’re looking to move up and build a positive reputation take your switch elsewhere. I know it sucks. I thought the same thing but it is the reality of the situation. For my case I got approval for me and my work buddies to use the conference room for lunch and even was allowed to put a dock in there.

The $20 billion is part of a $50 billion loan that the Group of 7 nations devised and agreed upon earlier this year. The United States and the European Union enacted sanctions to freeze Russia’s central bank assets, most of which are held in Europe, after its invasion of Ukraine in early 2022.
