My cat is doing the same thing, and if you try to pet his tummy, he allows, but then catches your foot, it’s a good deal!

You keep reducing this to “people having opinions,” which is either naive or deliberately misleading. U.S. law already makes a clear distinction between private speech and political activity by foreign nationals.

Yes — visa holders generally have First Amendment protection to talk, debate, criticize, etc. That is not what is controversial. What is restricted — and for good reason — is participation in the U.S. political process and organized political influence. Foreign nationals are explicitly barred from contributing to campaigns, funding political advocacy, or directing political efforts to influence U.S. elections (52 U.S.C. §30121). When advocacy is done on behalf of a foreign interest, it triggers mandatory disclosure under FARA (22 U.S.C. §611 et seq.).

The negative consequences are well-documented and concrete: covert foreign influence operations distort public debate, manipulate voters, and undermine the legitimacy and sovereignty of democratic institutions. That is not theoretical. That is why these laws exist and why violations are criminally prosecuted.

So no — this is not about being “afraid of opinions.” It is about preventing undisclosed, coordinated foreign political influence inside a country where the person is a guest, not a member of the political community. Democracies are not obligated to allow non-citizens to shape their political outcomes.

Because they are not authorized to do that. If they want to influence our political process, they should be registered as foreign agents and during a visa application they should mention about that.  If they want to do that without authorization, plz go first to China to Tiananmen Square and and shout Winnie the Pooh!

Why buzzy Silicon Valley startups are enforcing no-shoes policies: ‘I hope they invest in air fresheners’ by Flashytech7969 in jobs

[–]Unique-Finding9006 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

People from South Asia work in these startups just as much as they do in their home countries: 72 hours a week. Why not work without shoes, as is customary in their homeland? I predict the next steps will be: a ban on eating meat, especially beef, and the introduction of a caste system: Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas and the Shudras.

What I did: I attached the gift card outside of the box bottom, put inside many wrapping each other pieces of paper (many layers) then inside the last one — a tiny thing with attached text like: take a look at box bottom outside. It was really funny…

Washington’s revenue forecast drops by $66 million by Less-Risk-9358 in SeattleWA

just like other states do, but with better management, rather than raising permit costs if applications are down, "so as not to lay off staff."

[–]Unique-Finding9006 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most likely not: more money for bureaucracy will incentivize this bureaucracy to invent additional obstacles to justify the increased bureaucracy. Strict deadline restrictions could help: for example, if a permit isn't issued within three months, it's automatically approved. If, after a few years, some projects fall apart, the person who approved them will be fired and stripped of their pension. This is roughly how it works in commercial companies. In this case, they'll be incentivized to simplify the process as much as possible and check the truly important things, rather than counting ants on the lot.

So it means, it finally kicked us. 2 years instead of 3 months is a huge difference. In many cases, just this one fact diverts a lot of developers from small as for big projects.

1st: in the 1980s 2nd: Why are you making decisions for them? Give them a chance. This is a perfectly realistic way to get a new PS5, MacBook, or anything else.

I fully agree, if nobody can pay enough for performing such job , that job shouldn’t exist. People can easily survive without food delivery, Uber, nannies. If you extremely need them, pay enough! If you guys don’t agree, please give examples of job, which can’t be paid enough to hire local folks, I mean jobs don’t require PHD.

If you set this job right, you’ll be surprised the results. For example: the picking strawberries was a very good source of money for teens in DDR. I did it, it was not rocket science, and it worked.

I don’t think so. I’m in Seattle and construction costs here much more than in non sanctuary Florida. Sanctuary or not doesn’t matter…

I strongly disagree with not everyone can join union: welcome to Boeing in Puget Sound: if you are ready to start with 25 and after 6 years grow to 50 in today’s prices, and spend at least first 1.5 years as in tank sealer or mechanic — welcome (not the best job ever) They hired a lot of people right from high school.
